Verkhovsky District (Russian: Верховский райо́н) is an administrative[1] and municipal[4] district (raion), one of the twenty-fourinOryol Oblast, Russia. It is located in the east of the oblast. The area of the district is 1,072.4 square kilometers (414.1 sq mi).[citation needed] Its administrative center is the urban locality (anurban-type settlement) of Verkhovye.[1] Population: 17,283 (2010 Census);[2] 21,384 (2002 Census);[6] 24,888 (1989 Soviet census).[7] The population of Verkhovye accounts for 41.5% of the district's total population.[2]
