Wanbi is a town and locality in the Australian state of South Australia located about 157 kilometres (98 mi) east of the state capital of Adelaide and about 56 kilometres (35 mi) north-east of the municipal seat of Karoonda.[5][1]

In the 2021 census, Wanbi and the surrounding area's population of 23 was half the population counted in the 2016 Australian census.[9][10]

Wanbi Hotel has memorabilia commemorating the former nearby railway station and the South Australian Railways

Wanbi is on the Karoonda Highway and the Loxton railway line. Railway infrastructure was established in 1912 as part of the Barmera railway line. In 1925 Wanbi station became a junction when the Yinkanie railway line branched off there.[11] The branch was closed in 1971. In 1996, the mainline through Wanbi, en route to Loxton (later shortened to Tookayerta), was converted to standard gauge. In July 2015, that line also closed.[citation needed]
