Time filed: 21:08, Thursday, February 28, 2019 (UTC)

    Automatic, Supervised, or Manual: supervised (Note: Approved for automatic Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 17:15, 17 March 2019 (UTC))[reply]

    Programming language(s): AutoWikiBrowser

    Source code available: AWB

Function overview: Correct typos, etc in mass messages

Links to relevant discussions (where appropriate): User talk:DannyS712#Scripts newsletter, Wikipedia talk:Mass message senders#Request for mass message delivery: February 13, 2019 2

    Edit period(s): As needed

Estimated number of pages affected: Likely no more than 100 per run

    Exclusion compliant (Yes/No):No

Already has a bot flag (Yes/No): Yes

Function details: Currently, I have been manually correcting errors with AWB as User:DannyS712. I'd like to be able to do so with User:DannyS712 bot, which has nominornewtalk, to avoid the new messages prompt.

    Discussion[edit]

Support - I've seen issues with mass messages occur quite a few times recently. While they should be checked before being delivered, I can't see why a bot can't be allowed to fix them. Saves an annoying notification as well. RhinosF1(chat)(status)(contribs) 21:13, 28 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Potential trial: I asked headbomb about a potential trial, because I saw a mass message go out with an error. To fix it, I would find-and-replace the regex

We want all contributors to be able to talk to each other on the wikis – to ask questions, to resolve differences, to organize projects and to make decisions. Communication is essential for the depth and quality of our content, and the health of our communities. We're currently leading a global consultation on how to improve talk pages, and we're looking for people that can report on their experiences using (or helping other people to use) wiki talk pages. We'd like to invite you to \[\[Talk pages consultation 2019\|participate in the consultation\]\], and invite new users to join too.

To fix the link. Talk pages consultation 2019 should be Wikipedia:Talk pages consultation 2019. --DannyS712 (talk) 08:48, 11 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    Would you have examples of such an erroneous message out there (already sent)? Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 08:49, 11 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Headbomb: Yes, just now - I posted on your talk page; The code above is for fixing [1] --DannyS712 (talk) 08:50, 11 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
For easy copy-paste, the summary I would use is

    Correct a mass-message error - BOT in trial - [[Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/DannyS712 bot 8|BRFA]] --DannyS712 (talk) 08:52, 11 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@DannyS712: I don't see that message on my talk page, but no matter. Could you add the erroneous message to my talk page before going to trial, and make sure to trial on my talk page as well at the others, this way I can check if I get a notice from the bot?
Once that's done Approved for trial (10 edits). Please provide a link to the relevant contributions and/or diffs when the trial is complete., with one of those being from my talk page. As a side note, I don't really see a need for regex here, but you do it however you prefer. Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 08:55, 11 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Headbomb: Thank you so much for the quick responses, but unfortunately the sender beat me to it ([2]). I see what you mean about the regex, and will change that. Can this approval carry over to the next time a mass message goes out with an error? I would add the message to your user talk too. Thanks, --DannyS712 (talk) 09:02, 11 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Well, feel free to do a mock trial on my talk page with a fake message that needs fixing, and then fix it via the bot. Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 09:03, 11 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Headbomb: Trial complete. - 6 edits made ([3]), including on my own talk page, and I didn't get a notification, so I think everything worked according to plan. I have reviewed all 6 edits, and see no errors. Thanks again, --DannyS712 (talk) 09:17, 11 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
    @DannyS712: I didn't get a notice either.  Approved. Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 09:20, 11 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
