Nominator's rationale: Same team that changed name (the BIK in the target is for Bofors IK). The target category has the article name, the one proposed to merge from is the older category. Kaffet i halsen (talk) 20:38, 15 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: Is "French Polynesian descent" even as thing? French Polynesia is a geographic region, not an ethnicity. People of Tahitian descent is credible. Laurel Lodged (talk) 15:26, 30 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Clarification There is no proposal to "blanket it under something like Category:People of Tahitian descent". The Tahitian reference was just a passing observation that Tahitian at least, would have a better legitimate claim to a demonym as it is a distinct island, and, arguably, a nation. The same argument could be made for Category:People from Raiatea. It cannot, however, be made for a collection of random islands whose only common link is that they were colonised by France. Colonisation does not make for ethnicity or descent. Laurel Lodged (talk) 11:23, 1 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose. Yes, its a thing. I agree with Inter&anthro that "Tahitian" is too narrow.『Mā'ohi』is a broader term, which seems to be used in French Polynesian media for Polynesians currently governed by France.--IdiotSavant (talk) 00:35, 1 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The Google search term ["Tahitian descent" -Wikipedia] records twice as many hits as the term ["French Polynesian descent" -Wikipedia]. Laurel Lodged (talk) 10:28, 3 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Containerize As is so often the case with descent categories, they are good for containing individual nationalities but bad for grouping them together.--User:Namiba17:43, 16 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It is unclear to me how containerization solves the issue at stake. The subcategories suffer from the same problem, that is, if it is a problem at all.
Procedural oppose, deletion would merely leave the subcategories orphaned. This should only be nominated together with its subcategories. Marcocapelle (talk) 04:31, 17 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose: The nominator's point about ethnicity is not relevant; this is part of "Category:People by region of descent" & "Category:People of Oceanian descent" Furius (talk) 20:04, 18 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Comment being Blind AND deaf is a particularly severe disability, which will mean that those who are also notable will be rare. In general I support the policy of upmerging SMALLCAT cases, but do not think it appropriate here. Peterkingiron (talk) 14:46, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

sure, that could make sense too (although fwiw, if it becomes plural, then it wouldn't match the article title regardless...) Estadje (talk) 21:24, 15 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: Rename to make it more clear that this category is for fiction where cryonics plays a principal role rather than any fiction in which cryonics receives any mention per WP:DEFCAT. DonIago (talk) 13:27, 15 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Inside the tree of a specific sport, it is usually cohesive, where e.g. football clubs are under football teams and football clubs are used for almost all non-national teams. Usage:
Clubs: Football, most European-centered team sports.
Teams: National teams, US & Canada, motorsport, cycling, ice hockey
If merged/renamed, a later step would be to rename/merge the sports clubs and sports teams categories by (geography) (taking WP:ENGVAR in consideration: sport/sports/sporting), and let the ones by sport remain as they usually are cohesive. Kaffet i halsen (talk) 07:43, 15 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Support There is a slim difference between the two entities; that difference is probably insufficient to support categorical differentiation. In Category space, ease and consistency of navigation ought to trump taxonomic niceties. Laurel Lodged (talk) 12:37, 15 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
