NWA Wrestling Legends Hall of Heroes[edit]

Nominator(s): GaryColemanFan (talk) 05:14, 15 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I am nominating this for featured list because I feel that it meets the standards for Featured Lists and is in keeping with the guidelines set for previous wrestling hall of fame FLs. GaryColemanFan (talk) 05:14, 15 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • All check out fine.
Lead
  • Although the hall is separate from the NWA Hall of Fame and is not officially endorsed by the NWA, the NWA has given permission for the use of its name. -- In addition to this statement it would be best to state who runs ths Hall of Heroes?
    • Very little information is given anywhere about who runs it, other than "Copyright NWALegends.com". I have e-mailed the people who run the site for more information, but it doesn' appear as though they will be getting back to me. I found the name of the person who organizes the Fanfest/Hall of Fame ceremony, so I added it. GaryColemanFan (talk) 22:46, 22 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • The induction ceremony takes place at the annual NWA Legends Fanfest Weekend. -- You state the induction ceremony, like if you have already stated it before, but you haven't so it would be better worded as An induction ceremony
    • I think that "the" does a sufficient job of implying that one exists, which wouldn't be surprising for a hall of fame. The difference is practically non-existent, though, so I'll change it. GaryColemanFan (talk) 22:46, 22 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • The 2009 induction ceremony will take place on August 7 and will be hosted by Jim Cornette. -- What's the point of mentioning Cornette? You didn't state the hosts of the '07 or '08 programs.
  • During the ceremony, personalities from the NWA give speeches and present the inductees with plaques -- Is any other information available over the plaques? Like if their names are inscribed on them or something?
  • Although most people honored by the hall attend the dinner induction ceremony, some are inducted posthumously and others are unable to attend for medical reasons. -- Do you mean dinner "and" induction ceremony?
  • I would note something in the lead about the inductors.

Sorry, I totally missed your previous message. I haven't been able to find any free-use images that would add to the article. Free-use images exist of File:JimCornette.JPG, Bill Eadie (presenter), and Michael Hayes (presenter). Cornette's is the best quality, but I'm not sure that it suits the article, especially given that you were unsure about whether he should be mentioned at all. The Eadie picture isn't great, but it could work. The Hayes picture is hard to see and seems inappropriate because it is from a different HOF induction ceremony. I'm open to adding the Cornette or Eadie pictures if you think they would be useful. GaryColemanFan (talk) 19:12, 29 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Its okay. Hmm, I see. How about a logo? I think I saw one on the website, but it just may need cropping.--Truco 503 19:18, 29 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Resolved comments from MPJ-DK

  • Promoter (entertainment) is a redlink, is there not a different term you can link to?
  • "These plaques gace the logo of the NWA Legends Fanfest", "gace the logo"?? I'm not sure what you are trying to say?
  • Since the "#" colim does not indiciate any actual "induction order" but used to "reset" the list to sort by year then alphabetically it should not be there. I'd suggest merging the sort order into the "year" colum like this {{sort|01|2007}} for Gene Anderson etc.
  • Don Fargo should have the same type of dash in the "inducted by" column as the other 2009 inductees.
  • "Performed Comentary" does not sound right, how about "Commentator for Jim Crocket Promotions"? Simple and to the point.
  • Consistency in title naming under "notes" sometimes the territory indication is in italics and other times it's not: (Mid-Atlantic version) under Gene Anderson vs. (Mid-Atlantic version) under George Scott.
  • Naming consistenty, sometimes it's "Texas version of the NWA World..." other times it's "Tag Team Championshop (Mid-atlantic version)", I know that one is taken from the article names but couldn't it be consistent either way article title or not?
  • How are the notes determined? I cannot see how Penny Banner was inducted for winning the NWA Women's Tag Team Championship one time? What's the criteria for the notes section?
  • I would only center columns with numbers, centering text is irritating IMO.
Sources
  • Looks good to me.
  • I spelled promoter incorrectly in the wikilink; it is now fixed. "Gace" is what "have" looks like when you are typing and one of your fingers is shifted one key too far to the left. I got rid of the # column and incorporated it into the date column. Don Fargo's em dash is fixed. I changed "Performed commentary" to "Worked as a commentator" to keep the verb tense the same. Naming and italicization consistency are fixed with all of the titles. Only numbers are centered, although the em dashes look to me like they should be as well. That takes care of everything but the criteria for the notes column, I believe. It is fashioned after the other five wrestling hall of fame Featured Lists. It is intended to give a brief overview of the inductees career in the relevant area (in this case, the NWA because it is an NWA hall of fame). No claim is made about the accomplishments being the main reason (or even a reason at all) for the induction--there may be a better way to clarify, though. Should a footnote or key be added? GaryColemanFan (talk) 15:19, 23 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Excellent, as for the criteria - I was mainly curious to see if there was like an official reasoning or if the note is more to give a brief overview of the inductee. I'm satisfied with it now. MPJ-DK (talk) 15:58, 23 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • "The NWA Wrestling Legends Hall of Heroes " Spell out NWA here.
  • "is a professional wrestling hall of fame created to honor people "-->is a professional wrestling hall of fame that honors people

I just got interrupted; will finish commenting later. Dabomb87 (talk) 18:50, 24 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the suggestions. If you have any more, please let me know. GaryColemanFan (talk) 02:10, 25 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • "and another eight are scheduled to be added to the Hall of Heroes in 2009."-->and another eight will be added to the Hall of Heroes in 2009.
  • "NWA give speeches"-->NWA deliver speeches
  • "Many presenters are people who have been involved in the inductee's career"
  • Can you center the em dashes in the table? Use {{center}}.

Sources look good. Dabomb87 (talk) 20:38, 25 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Comments
  • "the hall is seperate from the NWA Hall of Fame and is not officially endorsed by the NWA, but the NWA has given permission for the use of its name." Too many NWAs in one sentence for my tastes. Please consider changing at least one for variety.
  • "Inductees and other former NWA wrestlers are seated at tables with fans in order to provide an intimate atmosphere."
  • The real names for Thunderbolt Patterson and Blackjack Mulligan are cutting off about halfway up.
  • I've seen this once or twice before at FAC/FLC. I remember someone saying how to fix this once, but unfortunately don't recall the method. It's not something I'd withhold support over, but I figured it was worth mentioning during a review. Probably some setting on my computer that I don't know about anyway. Giants2008 (17–14) 20:18, 25 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • What makes a fanfest website reliable for information not directly relating to the fanfest, such as the NWA giving permission to use its name? Is the fanfest affiliated with NWA in some way?
  • I believe that the website is just used to source that one fact. I think it's an important fact to include, and the reference says that the name is used with permission of the NWA. I believe it is reliable. Please let me know what you think. GaryColemanFan (talk) 02:10, 25 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • I saw, but didn't take into account, that the fanfest hosts the HoF's ceremony each year. That probably makes it just reliable enough for a fact on the HoF. If a better source could be found, however, I would prefer to see it as a replacement. Won't withhold support over it, though. Giants2008 (17–14) 20:18, 25 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • What makes The Wrestling Gospel According to Mike Mooneyham a reliable source? Looks like a personal website to me. Is Mooneyham an expert an wrestling, as required by WP:SPS?
  • He is an established journalist and writes regularly for the Charleston Post & Courier. He has also published the book Sex, Lies, and Headlocks: The Real Story of Vince McMahon and World Wrestling Entertainment through Random House. Please let me know if you need more information. GaryColemanFan (talk) 02:10, 25 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Are the non-Hall of Fame parts of Mid-Atlantic Gateway reliable?
  • Some are written by Steven Johnson, who is a regular columnist for SLAM! Wrestling (in fact, several of the references used are from Johnson's columns on SLAM!). He has also published The Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame: The Heels and Benoit: Wrestling with the Horror That Destroyed a Family and Crippled a Sport through ECW Press. All of the rest are from David Chappell, another long-time wrestling writer (he has been cited as a valuable source in the aforementioned The Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame: The Heels book, as well as Superstar Billy Graham: Tangled Ropes, published by Simon & Schuster). Again, let me know if you need more information. GaryColemanFan (talk) 02:10, 25 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
