United States presidential elections in Washington, D.C.[edit]

United States presidential elections in Washington, D.C. (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Nominator(s): Kavyansh.Singh (talk) 07:47, 23 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I am nominating this for featured list because I feel that these types of lists on United States presidential elections have a great potential to be FL. I almost completely re-formatted the list, added a lead, and key for political parties. It lists all the elections in which Washington, D.C. participated, with votes and percentage. I intend to make similar changes to all the lists within this series. I would respond to every comment, and try to bring this nomination to FL standards whenever needed. With one of the list (United States presidential elections in Utah) currently a FLC, with multiple supports, I nominate this too. Check this page for progress. Thanks! (48 states more to go)Kavyansh.Singh (talk) 07:47, 23 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • "Washington, D.C., formally the District of Columbia is" => "Washington, D.C., formally the District of Columbia, is"
  • "Washington, D.C. cannot have more electoral votes than the state with the least number of elector" => "Washington, D.C. cannot have more electoral votes than the state with the smallest number of electors"
  • "in majority of the elections" => "in the majority of the elections"
  • No need for the semi-colon after 2000 presidential election
  • "there have been various statehood movement" => "there have been various statehood movements"
  • That's all I for :-) -- ChrisTheDude (talk) 20:43, 23 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

*The lead feels a little on the brief side.

@The Rambling Man – I have made most of the changes, and replied. Thanks! – Kavyansh.Singh (talk) 13:21, 24 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I knew D.C. was heavily Democratic, but this list really drives it home.

  • Infobox – The map with the section blow-up doesn't work for me. Something more tied to elections would be preferable. If showing the location is necessary, something like the one on the D.C. page is better, because it also shows it in relation to other well-known American cities.
  • Lead – "United States" is spelled out in full three sentences in a row. "23rd amendment to the Constitution" and "presidential elections" should be sufficient, since it is obvious that they refer to those in the U.S. (it's OK to use "U.S.", see MOS:ACRO Exceptions). Similarly, "Washington, D.C." appears seven times, try for variety ("the city", "the District", just "Washington", etc.)
  • Last paragraph – Since you brought it up, more info on lacking a voting representative and the statehood issue would be better. Mentioning Gore seems like a stray fact. Otherwise, this is only loosely connected to presidential elections.
  • Table – Using bundled citations would make it appear less busy/cluttered. Also it's a bit wide. How does it look on mobile devices?
    • Well, I would have merged the citations if they were 4 or more, or if they really cluttered up the table. 2-3 citations doesn't require to be merged, I guess. For the second point, it looks fine on the mobile site/app. Of-course you'll have to scroll, but that wouldn't be solved by merging citations.... – Kavyansh.Singh (talk) 18:59, 20 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Graph – I don't think this is useful and smacks of busy work; the table already shows the spread.
    • Yeah, it might not be too useful here, but it really is for the states which have different partied winning elections. (See this) For maintaining consistency in the series, I don't feel that the graph looks too bad to include it here. With 2 of these lists promoted FL (one at the main page now!) and 2 lists at review, its a long project for 50 states + DC, and maintaining consistency would not be easy for all states, but I'll try.... – Kavyansh.Singh (talk) 18:59, 20 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

That's it for now. —Ojorojo (talk) 18:11, 20 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Ojorojo – Tried to address all the points. – Kavyansh.Singh (talk) 19:00, 20 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Your responses about maintaining consistency in the series make sense. Several of my comments reflect stylistic preferences and the changes you've made take care of the rest. Happy to add my support. —Ojorojo (talk) 13:28, 21 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
