Comment: There are two problems with this request, one practical and one policy. I don't have JSTOR access to that publication, so I can't see the image. That introduces the policy issue of WP:NFCC#2 and WP:NFCI. Since JSTOR is selling access to the image, I don't believe using it would meet the "respect for commercial opportunities" criterion. --AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 02:24, 6 January 2020 (UTC)
@AntiCompositeNumber: With respect to the latter concern, neither JSTOR nor the Universities Art Association of Canada (UAAC; the publisher of RACAR) controls the rights to the image in question, to the best of my knowledge. Lawren Harris created the painting and the photograph is owned by Ron Vickers Ltd. That aside, it shouldn't affect the commercial opportunities of JSTOR or UAAC anyway as the primary content they are selling here is not the photographs (which they don't own) but rather the critical commentary on them and the research providing the historical context of them.
If we were to accept the interpretation that the fact that it happens to have been found in a paywalled article in itself means it can't meet WP:NFCC#2, it would mean that any image that happens to appear in a book published for profit (or at least one still in print) – even if it had previously appeared elsewhere – wouldn't be allowable.
Regarding the practical issue, I'm sure WikiProject Resource Exchange or one of the folks in Category:Wikipedians who have access to JSTOR could lend us a hand. 142.160.131.220 (talk) 23:29, 6 January 2020 (UTC)
I've asked for additional input at WP:MCQ#Non-free use of an image from a paywalled journal. --AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 02:35, 12 January 2020 (UTC)
I don't see an issue with NFCC#2,, but possibly so with NFCC#1. Were there really no depictions of him made pre-1923? If there were any, those would be PD, and so preferable to using something nonfree. Seraphimblade Talk to me 21:09, 15 January 2020 (UTC)
I don't know of any, but you're right, Seraphimblade, that if such images were available WP:NFCC#1 could be a problem. 142.160.131.220 (talk) 01:26, 17 January 2020 (UTC)
Update: There appears to be a consensus at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions/Archive/2020/January § Non-free use of an image from a paywalled journal. that there is not a WP:NFCC#2 issue here. 207.161.86.162 (talk) 04:05, 19 February 2020 (UTC)

@MrClog: Why would there be a declaration of consent? The above discussion pertains to the use of the image under the fair use guidelines. 207.161.86.162 (talk) 05:55, 5 May 2020 (UTC)
Oops, I suppose I misplaced the comment. --MrClog (talk) 09:06, 5 May 2020 (UTC)
That being the case, and given that you have JSTOR access via The Wikipedia Library, would you be able to upload the image, MrClog?207.161.86.162 (talk) 20:47, 10 May 2020 (UTC)
Doing... MrClog (talk) 20:56, 10 May 2020 (UTC)
