Chancellor College, widely considered the main campus of the University of Malawi is located in Zomba district, southern Malawi
Chancellor College was formed in 1973 when all the constituents of the university save the Malawi Polytechnic and Bunda College of Agriculture were transferred to Zomba and merged into Chancellor College
Chancellor college has five faculties: Faculty of Humanities, Faculty of Science, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Social Science and Faculty of Education. The faculties has the following departments:
The Centre for Language Studies[1] is a a research institution under the Faculty of Humanities at Chancellor College, University of Malawi. It replaced the ChiChewa Board, the latter's mandate being to promote the development of Chichewa, Malawi's national language. The Centre's main role is to promote the development of all Malawian languages and guide government on language policy matters.
The centre also carries research and consultancy in English, French, German, Portuguese, Spanish and others. The mission of the centre is to conduct theoretical and descriptive language research relevant to Malawi and provide high qualify language-related services to contribute to the development of Malawi and its languages.
