Welcome to the USRD Adopt-a-Highway service. Here, you can volunteer to maintain a set of highway articles in the two national systems. This prevents duplication of effort and helps focus on article improvements.

Responsibilities of adoption[edit]

Adoption is a way to keep all articles clean from virtual trash, like real-life Adopt-A-Highway programs keep highways free of litter. Adopting a highway means that you volunteer to keep that article up to current project standards (both USRD and WP:IH/WP:USH standards) and free of vandalism. It does NOT imply that you own the article or are the top expert on that route. It may, however, be a good idea to adopt articles of routes that you have a degree of familiarity with.

Adoption and unadoption[edit]

Adopting an article[edit]

To adopt an unadopted article:

  1. Add {{maintained}} to the article's talk page.
  2. If it is a primary route, remove its shield from the list of unadopted routes.
  3. Add its shield next to your name below.

Abandoning an article[edit]

If for some reason you wish to end your adoption of an article, just remove the tag from the talk page and remove its shield from your name on the roster. (Return it to the list of routes if it's a primary.) Someone else can then adopt the article if they wish.

Available routes[edit]

Auxiliary routes are not listed. Visit the article's talk page or the roster of adopters to see if it has been adopted.
