  • 26 Romanian gas field articles proposed for deletion

    [edit]

One editor has been proposing many gas field articles for deletion over the last few days. Articles are tagged as non-notable with bad references.

Merging content into List of natural gas fields in Romania is a potential alternative to deletion.

You're invited to look at these and see what should be done. If you have refs you can add, that would be helpful.

If you agree or disagree with deletion, there are instructions on the deletion notice for what to do.

    Here's the current list:

    I maintain a running list at User:A. B./Sandbox2 Thanks, --A. B. (talkcontribsglobal count) 06:37, 25 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Romanians! I'm after WP:N-good sources for LINDA SASKIA MENCZEL, would like to make an article about her if possible. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 12:56, 29 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Ping to @Nenea hartia, who helped me once before. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 13:05, 29 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Gråbergs Gråa Sång: Unfortunately I can't find much about her in the Romanian press. There are many references to her actually, but generally they are announcements of her exhibitions, most of them published in the local press of Timișoara. I have a subscription to this big Hungarian and Romanian newspaper archive and I searched there too but found only the same kind of articles in the same kind of newspapers (Renașterea Bănățeană from Timișoara). See for example here (the link is valid for 6 days). However, I also found a potentially useful source: her profile published on the webpage of the Timiș County Council. Recently someone also created an article about her on ro.wiki, but it's mostly her about her, so not very useful. I am sorry I couldn’t be more helpful. --Nenea hartia (talk) 16:24, 30 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Nenea hartia, thanks, I owe you! Yeah, that WP-article wasn't there when I looked yesterday, though I found her name at [1]. It seems to have the usual COI-beginner problems, pictures included. I learned of her name at Wikipedia:Teahouse#Posting/Pasting_from_a_google_docs_file.
Thanks for the pdf:s, I grabbed them. On the uapt.cjtimis.ro link, I got the impression it's a website by an organization she's a member of (Uniunea Artiştilor Plastici din România)? Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 16:51, 30 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Gråbergs Gråa Sång: yes, I think you are right. 'cjtimis.ro' is definitely the website of the Timiș County Council, but that link is weird. The official website of the Timișoara chapter of Uniunea Artiștilor Plastici din România seems to be this one, so I really don't know what to say. They seem to have two websites, one probably hosted by the County Council... On the other hand, if you think that the pdfs can be useful, I have added the complete newspapers in the same link. --Nenea hartia (talk) 17:30, 30 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks again. I haven't tried to read the pdf-articles yet, but the text is copypaste-able, so I should get the gist with google translate. I managed to make an article on a Slovenian, Christoph Steidl Porenta, so this seemed like an interesting task. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 17:51, 30 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Nenea hartia, this [2] should count as independent RS coverage, don't you think? There may be useful commentary about her in there. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 18:09, 30 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Gråbergs Gråa Sång: That is a nice find! TVR (Romanian Television) should indeed count as an independent RS source. I'll reproduce the dialogue below and I hope you don't mind that it's in Romanian, but it's hard for me to translate it, because the two ladies use very artistic and complicated words. But a decent translation tool like Google Translate should give you an idea:

    --Nenea hartia (talk) 20:07, 30 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Excellent! I'll take a closer look at this tomorrow. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 22:12, 30 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Well, putting these 3 together, I'm not confident an article would be afd-safe enough. I'd like to see 1 or 2 more good ones. Maybe something will pop up. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 20:28, 31 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Standarization of ș vs s , ț vs t etc.

    [edit]

I propose we standardize the use of ș or s on english wikipedia.

For example Valery OisteanuVSAndrei Oișteanu (these 2 are brothers). Both are the english versions of the article, and yet they use different versions of ș.
I believe, although i'd prefer using "ș", we should use "s" considering that『ș』doesnt exist in the english alphabet. Either that, or use "sh". However doing that would also start the argument of using "uh" for "ă".
I can understand standardizing it to ș too, since that is usually whats on the person's birth certificate, in Valery's and Andrei's case, even though『ș』doesnt exist in English. Although this is about the use of『ș』vs "s", realistically there proabably are instances of using a instead of ă or â, or the opposite, and most definently of t instead of ț, or vice versa. Starting this July, we will see a new contest on the scene - the Developing Countries WikiContest (WP:DCWC)! Think of it as a WikiCup but only for articles and media on developing countries.

Competitors may submit GAs, GTs, FAs, FTs, FLs, FPs, and DYK and ITN entries from/on developing countries to gain points and climb the leaderboard. Points are also awarded to those who review GAs, FAs and FLs.

Romania is listed as a developing country for the purposes of this contest and articles related to it are eligible to be submitted for points, so I encourage everyone here to sign up and compete with editors from around the world to create high-quality content!

Append your name to the DCWC signup page today!
