Medical Trainee Intern Grants are paid to the University of Otago and the University of Auckland to provide a stipend for domestic medical students working as interns as part of their sixth year of study.
Medical Trainee Intern Grants are paid to the University of Otago and the University of Auckland to provide a stipend for domestic medical students working as interns as part of their sixth year of study.
The grant supports medical students to complete their studies.
Student eligibility
The Medical Trainee Intern Grant is paid to domestic medical students working as interns as part of their sixth year of study.
Information for students
The Medical Trainee Intern Grant is a payment of $26,756 (GST exempt) per student per 12 months internship. You can only receive the grant once.
How the grant is paid
Most students will receive the grant from their university in 12 monthly payments during their sixth year of study.
If you’re a graduate-entry student, however, you can choose to have the grant paid in one instalment at the beginning of your studies or in 12 monthly payments throughout the year.
Note: A ‘graduate-entry’ student is a student who has completed a bachelor’s degree or higher-level qualification before entering the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery programme.
