The thing about people following media for investment information is they are operating on old information. It's a huge disadvantage for anyone that buys or sells based on some article they read, but plenty of people do it. And it's a huge boon for the more savvy investors

And I took time out of my day running the Chinese government just a comment on slash Dot.
Also can you tell your buddy Donald Trump to stop fucking kids? I need to make a trade deal with them but he's just so busy being a pedophile. I mean 30 credible rape accusations eight of which involved children and now we find out from the Epstein files that he was just selling underaged girls. I mean we already knew he was doing it but we've got it in writing now

The goal here is to create a post capitalist society without socialism. What the cool kids called techno feudalism.
AI replaces the paying of wages. Instead of employees and consumers the 3,000 billionaires on the planet will have machines and a tiny handful of engineers to keep them working. Also a tiny handful of thugs to keep the engineers in line.
Everyone else including you will live in the kind of abject poverty previously associated with the worst of the American native American reservations before the casinos. Every now and then if you start to develop a civilization on your own they will send drones to slaughter you similar to what they did to Black Wall Street as it was called.
I don't know if they will actually succeed but that is absolutely the plan.
The ruling class doesn't like capitalism. Just because they benefit from it doesn't mean they enjoy it. They absolutely despise being dependent on filthy worms like us for their power and prestige. And for the first time in human history they have a way to be almost completely free of us.
I think the hard part is it's very hard for people to wrap their heads around the idea that someone who benefited so much from capitalism would destroy it.

A lot of people have lost their shirts. Meanwhile with Trump as president there's basically no money laundering laws being enforced. So why bother going to the trouble of using crypto to launder your money? And at the end of the day money laundering is the killer app for cryptocurrency.

Microsoft basic was stolen code fished out of school trash cans.
Are we seeing this nonsense because he's in the Epstein files? I imagine his PR firm is working overtime right now.

Actually, a second comment to expound a little:
Few people commit crimes knowing that they'll get caught. I would daresay that nearly 100% of criminals believe that they'll get away with it.
If you think you're going to get away with a crime, you're not going to consider the potential consequences. Alternately, some people commit certain kinds of crimes because they believe they've got a moral cause to do so (some kinds of protests, refusing the draft, etc.)
Given that, the severity of the penalty probably doesn't enter into their minds much. Those 11 people thought they could get away with their crimes long enough that the death penalty (which they surely knew was on the table) wouldn't matter.
Indeed, if you actually go and look up the research on it, it doesn't appear to have a meaningful deterrent effect over and above life imprisonment.
So again, to reiterate: you don't know what a deterrent is.

You don't know what is.
The death penalty isn't a meaningful deterrent--we still have a lot of crime. We still have these 11 people perpetrating crime until they're caught and killed by the state. This assumes that they're actually the guilty parties and not some fall-guys for the real criminals.
Punishment is the *worst* way to *prevent* crime because it relies on:
a) someone actually committing the crime (that is, the harm is done)
b) someone caring enough to solve the crime
c) the system prosecuting the crime
The reason the whole carceral system sucks is because harm is done to victims and the only "justice" they get is the perpetrator maybe not doing more crimes. They don't get compensation or therapy or anything. The state fails them utterly. I'm sure these 11 people being dead (assuming, again, that they were the actually guilty parties) gives the victims some measure of comfort, but it sounds like their lives were still pretty much ruined, so I dunno.
Compare to Scandinavian countries where they're closing prisons down because they don't have prisoners to put in them because they simply have less crime, and when someone DOES commit a crime, they rehabilitate them.
I don't trust the criminal justice system to do the right thing in MOST cases. It's shown itself to be subject to corruption and the worst aspects of crony capitalism the same as every other industry. I suppose these days we need to be worried about governments executing people in the streets with no trial, but I'm not convinced that the show of a trial is much help either.

90% of the 89 urine samples that showed infection, from 273 urine samples collected from out patients at one particular hospital.
I think more data is needed to assert 90% across the entire population.
Still, 90% is high in just one study.

The mutations are random, and the ones that help them survive continue. As do others, though, that happened alongside.
There's no guarantee that the mutations are NOT harmful to humans.
Poisonous mushrooms didn't necessarily evolve to be harmful to us. There's no pressure on them to be harmful to us. It just sucks for us that whatever random mutations happened in their evolutionary history that helped them survive happens to kill us.
Whilst the likelihood is low that the mutations are harmful, you cannot assume that they are not.

Is that the oil Barrons can't slow down the transition. I don't think it'll make a huge difference because it's just a different group of billionaires but it's looking like those oil men are going to get squeezed out of the upper echelons of the ruling class. Still firmly in the ruling class but they're going to basically lose control of energy production.
They figured out a long time ago that renewables were going to dominate especially in America where we have so much land we can just keep putting them up, but what they were trying to do is stop the development of renewables until they could be the ones that owned everything.
They will still have a lot of stakeholding but it won't be all theirs. It is pretty stupid that we as a country aren't just building the stuff out as regular infrastructure like roads. Power plants that just sit there and generate power really should just be built and managed by the government just like roads

Around here you can actually make a nice profit if you play your cards right. Feed into the grid when demand is high, draw from it when demand is low, and profit from the difference in pricing.

Attached to: Universal Basic Income Could Be Used To Soften Hit From AI Job Losses In UK, Minister Says
I think there are problems with UBI, but the basic fact that EVERYBODY GETS IT means it is impossible for there to be fraud where somebody who should not get it lies and recieves it, for the simple reason that no such person exists.
Fortunately there is no other form of Fraud, amirite?
I think you are trying to box me in as some sort of right wing nut. So let's move on - okay, should everyone get UBI from birth? You said in all caps - "EVERYBODY GETS IT". So okay, at birth a person stars getting UBI. How much?
Now since it is in your words, impossible to there to be any fraud under UBI. it's take this woman who funds her lifestyle with th eSSI her pretend autistic children get. So your system of everybody gets UBI - will autistic children get more UBI, or will every child, no matter the disability, receive the same UBI from birth?
How will fraud become impossible. Who gets the money, the child, or the parent?
I'm pretty certain that you have the completely fraud free answer, no fraud is possible under your system. You said it is impossible to have fraud. Show us.

Attached to: Blue Origin Announces Two-Year Pause in Space Tourism - to Focus on the Moon
I doubt there will be many tourists headed to the moon in the foreseeable future. Blue Origin is only making the lander, they don't have a way to get to lunar orbit. Even if they did, the trip isn't exactly pleasant. NASA has at least managed to install a toilet on the new capsule, but it's still not a very fun place to spend a week.
Some dedicated people will go, but it won't be like the joyrides to the edge of space that they do now.
