History

edit

The Wertheim School was founded in September 2019 following a 2018 gift from the Dr. Herbert and Nicole Wertheim Family Foundation.[3][4][5] The school is currently led by founding Dean Cheryl A. M. Anderson, who was appointed to the position in June 2020.[6]

Programs

edit

The Herbert Wertheim School of Public Health and Human Longevity Science offers the following degree programs:

The Herbert Wertheim School of Public Health and Human Longevity Science provides students with a leading-edge curriculum that addresses 21st century public health issues, with access to UC San Diego Health, the region's only academic health system and a living laboratory to study population health, care inequalities and the development of efficient preventive health strategies. Challenges in public health create opportunities in which diversity in students, faculty and research are not just vital, but supported and encouraged.[7]

Research

edit

The mission is to develop, foster and sustain research and academic excellence and innovation, while promoting and instilling the values of justice, equity, diversity, inclusion and cultural humility, to address 21st century public and planetary health needs, and advance wellbeing for all.

To best serve the public good, the Herbert Wertheim School of Public Health emphasizes research in seven high priority areas: climate and environmental health, health equity and global health justice, healthy births and aging and longevity science, health services research, mental health and substance use, women's health and reproductive justice, and quantitative methodsinpublic health.

To remain nimble to a shifting environment and health concerns over time, the school has established seven research programs that focus on these areas, which reflect collective strengths within the school and key areas of public health need.[8]
