Sexism/Xenophobia

edit

Many would contest the accusations of sexism, as she wrote so many amazing female characters. Malory Towers and the Twins at St Claire's feature exclusively young female characters that are strong, clever, creative, funny, sporty etc. They're all dynamically written female characters. The Famous Five, Secret Seven, Wishing Chair and Faraway Tree series have both male and female characters that are in no way implied to be unequal. Not to mention, George from the Famous Five can be considered transgender (keeping hair short, called "George" and won't answer to Georgina, likes being called Master George instead of Miss) and this is never used as a joke or negative element, and is readily accepted by the other characters.

Sneezing power

Dulwich Blue Plaque

edit

The blue plaque described as being in Ondine Road, is in fact on 354 Lordship Lane. I don't know whether Blyton's childhood home was in Ondine Road, or why the plaque is there in Lordship Lane (it's a Southwark Council plaque rather than an English Heritage one). What I do know id that the picture of the plaque is from Lordship Lane. Thartdyke (talk) 21:28, 20 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Mr Tumpy’s Caravan

edit

I don’t understand why this is described as an unknown manuscript discovered in 2011. I had a copy of this book given to me on my 4th birthday in 1962. It was well-known to be by Enid Blyton and was first published at least 60 years ago. Ashdene123 (talk) 20:32, 20 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
