The paleognaths (Palaeognathae) are a cladeofbird speciesofgondwanic distribution in Africa, South America, New Guinea, Australia and New Zealand. The group have more than 50 living species and includes the ostriches, rheas, kiwis, emus, cassowaries and tinamous.
