Stemonitopsis is a genusofslime molds in the family Amaurochaetaceae.[1] First circumscribed by Norwegian botanist Elly Nannenga-Bremekamp in 1967 as a subgenusofComatricha,[2] she later elevated the grouping to generic status in 1975.[3] The type speciesisStemonitopsis hyperopta, which was originally describedbyCharles Meylan in 1919 as Stemonitis hyperopta.[4]
As of June 2016[update], there are 10 species in the genus.[5]
