Comments[edit]

Kennedy and Newton's morning session on 3AK played an important part in setting the tone for the station that had recently been acquired by Packer. Of course, their redio program contained numerous cross references to IMT.

Merger[edit]

Will be merging this into 1116 SEN as the two are the same. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Heyitsstevo (talkcontribs) 01:03, 9 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

NoHeyitsstevo, they're not the same. Is that what you call discussion? HiLo48 (talk) 03:28, 9 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
To elaborate, and actually provide some discussion, there are many older listeners of 3AK who may come to Wikipedia wanting to see what's here about a radio station they loved. While SEN may be on the same frequency and same licence, it's highly unlike such listeners would want to be taken to the page of a modern day sports station. The two stations are so far apart in the material they presented, there is effectively no connection between them apart from in a legal sense and technical sense. Let's make this more comfortable for our readers. HiLo48 (talk) 04:04, 9 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Except that SEN and 3AK are one and the same, and should be one page. The 3AK page currently includes various formats, from the station's launch through to 2003, so why should the SEN page be separate? Heyitsstevo (talk) 10:36, 11 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Despite multiple formats, 3AK was always 3AK. It's obvious that the new name of SEN was meant to be a clean break. We should reflect that break. To listeners, they are definitely not one and the same. HiLo48 (talk) 11:18, 11 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Still doesn't mean that the one station should have two articles. Clean break or not, SEN is 3AK. Heyitsstevo (talk) 10:22, 12 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
In the same sense that Wikipedia uses common names, 3AK is not the same station as SEN. HiLo48 (talk) 22:02, 12 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The Wikipedia pages for both SEN and 3AK have a distinct integrity and are both important, albeit for slightly different reasons. The SEN site covers both the current situation and the history of the station as from January 2004. The 3AK page covers the history of the station from November 1931 up until the leasing of the licence to SEN. The latter page also captures the atmosphere of a radio station that has a most unusual and important history.

The concept of wiping out the whole of the 3AK page, as was attempted on 11 November 2014 is abhorent! It cuts across the whole concept of any encyclopedia, including Wikipedia; this is, to provide all reders with a reference point containing information. Apart from the fact that numerous people devoted many hours into researching and providing others with the history and atmosphere of 3AK, the removal in toto would deny readers with a vital research tool.

Both the SEN and 3AK pages have links to each other, and that is as to should be. Thus, readers are able to either read each individual page, or to look at both and therefore see the relationship between the two stations.

Like many discussions on the various Wikipedia Talk pages, the discussion of this topic has, until now, been a debate between two people with opposing views. However, it is important to realise that this subject affects more than just these two individuals. As an ongoing contributor to the 3AK page since January 2007, I am well aware that both the SEN and 3AK pages provide vital information to a parge number of people; not only in Australia but also overseas. Long may the two sites continue in their present form! Albert Isaacs (talk) 21:28, 23 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
