Dravecky[edit]

I just wanted to take a moment to remember our good friend and a driving force behind this project, and others, Dravecky. We lost him 4 years ago today, April 23.

An admin, he was honored with 3 good articles and 145 DYKs, plus he had 104,715 edits to his name, including one (his last) the morning he passed. Dravecky was a friend to all, on and off Wikipedia. A SciFi fan above all else. He helped do the behind the scenes stuff (along with his longtime girlfriend Robyn) for FenCon, WhoFest, among many others and met many of his favorite actors and actresses. He loved his University of Alabama Crimson Tide football.

I think I can speak for everyone when I say he is still missed by all here. Roll Tide, Dravecky. :) - NeutralhomerTalk • 15:39 on April 23, 2020 (UTC) • #StayAtHome

KWFF[edit]

Wanted to raise a vandalism issue for the project's attention. On at least four separate occasions since October 2023, a user named Bigaouette8532 has edited KWFF, a radio station in Oklahoma, to falsify it as an all-bluegrass station branded as "99.7 Bluegrass FM" instead of its status as a classic country station branded as 99.7 The Wolf — but what verifies at its website is Wolf/classic country, not bluegrass. (I'm also listening to the livestream as I type this for extra verification, and am currently hearing the very classic-country and very not-bluegrass "Ode to Billie Joe".)

This has been reverted each time, twice by Wcquidditch and twice by yours truly; although I don't ordinarily pay attention to American radio stations as a rule due to my lack of deep knowledge on the subject of non-Canadian broadcasting, the two more recent attempts have also included fuckifying the Category:Country radio stations in the United States category to the redlinked Category:Bluegrass radio stations in the United States, thus getting it listed at Special:WantedCategories.

And, in fact, they've been so persistent that some things have gotten missed, such that even after I reverted to the most recent "clean" version there were still little bits of stray junk to clean up, including the falsifying of a citation title to "bluegrass" instead of "wolf", and a nonsense claim in the infobox that its callsign was chosen to "sound like banjo" even though any attempt to pronounce its callsign as a word obviously lands as "quiff" rather than "banjo".

I've restored everything I've been able to catch, and have placed a few weeks of extended confirmed protection on it to block the problem user from being able to edit it at all for the time being — but somebody with more knowledge about American radio than this canucklehead has may need to review it to ensure that I haven't missed anything, and obviously we don't want to leave the article protected any longer than we absolutely have to. The article may, further, need some extra watchlisters to keep an eye on it, if the very few watchlisters it currently has have missed the most recent problematic edits. I'd recommend requestinganWP:EDITFILTER. That could help prevent further issues on the page. I'd also recommend reporting the user to AIV. - NeutralhomerTalk • 16:55, 25 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The user's been blocked, so I've dropped the protection, but I've applied "pending changes" for a month just in case they try it again as an IP or under a new username. Bearcat (talk) 20:01, 25 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'll add it to my watchlist, Bearcat. Wouldn't be sporting of me to ignore a call for help from a fellow Torontonian. Mlaffs (talk) 23:28, 25 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

There is a requested move discussion at Talk:KTON (AM)#Requested move 1 March 2024 that may be of interest to members of this WikiProject. Vanderwaalforces (talk) 09:07, 1 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hits Radio — the GHR treatment needs to be revived[edit]

Putting this here because I do not have the bandwidth for this.

You might recall the Greatest Hits Radio RfC in 2020. That same precedent needs to be applied to the Hits Radio network which is rolling up legacy names. I had a conversation with Flip Format on my talk page on this (User talk:Sammi Brie#Hits Radio (UK)) and wanted to bring the venue here. I don't have the bandwidth to handle this, but it sure sounds like we've hit a point at which a breakpoint on these rolled-up stations' articles is advisable. Sammi Brie (she/her • tc) 05:46, 21 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I would agree with this. To summarise, although nothing programming-wise has changed at each of these stations with the rebrand, I don't think that each individual Hits Radio station has the notability that it did when it was a local radio station, given that each station originates no programming other than a single morning show (and not even that, in cases like City/Rock FM, Metro/TFM and the various Free Radio stations). On the other hand, the history of stations like Radio City, Metro Radio, Red Rose/Rock FM etc is clearly notable and these stations could sustain historic articles of their own, running from their individual launches through to the 2024 rebrand. Hits Radio should have an article which mentions the stations within the network, but each network station doesn't need an article. Flip Format (talk) 12:27, 22 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
