Name

[edit]

My understanding was that we called radio stations by their name rather than callsign - it would seem to be the case for 774 ABC Melbourne, ABC Capricornia, Nova 100 etc.

I don't see any discussion about it here so I'm inclined to revert the change. timgraham —Preceding comment was added at 07:34, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wikiproject Radio seems to indicate that a name is appropriate when there is a mix of the two used - and I'm 99.999% sure that the name is how most people will know it, given that pretty much every ABC Local Radio station identifies itself with the formula <callsign> ABC <location>. timgraham 07:39, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Abclocalradio.png

[edit]

Image:Abclocalradio.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

5DR

[edit]

The station changed it's name from 5DR to 8DR long before 1989 when it became 8DDD. The other (commercial station) in town was 8DN. This dates from at least 1967 when I first moved to Darwin. Northern Territory stations initially shared the 5 prefix with South Australia but moved to 8 at some point well prior to 1989. http://radiorecall.blogspot.com.au/search/label/8DR indicates 8DN opened as an 8 station in 1960, so the change may have been then, or even earlier. The list of 8 prefix radio staions elsewhere on Wikipedia gives the change over as 1960. Jaxsonjo (talk) 06:04, 29 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Post Tracy communication

[edit]

My memory tells me the first (non-amateur) communication with the rest of Australia was via the "order wire" at the ABD-6 transmitter building, Blake Street Darwin. I never used it but knew several who did. NTD-8 occupied an ATCO demountable nearby, and I believe its satellite communication put out of action.
