Coordinate error

[edit]

{{geodata-check}}

The following coordinate fixes are needed for

The Battle of Ahmed Khel (1880). It did not occur at Ahmad Khel in Pakistan, as these incorrect coordinates suggest.

The battle occurred on the route from Kandahar to Kabul, probably very near the current A1 highway. Ahmed Khel was a supposed village marked on the British maps where the Gul Koh hills have a spur that crossed the road to Kabul, but no village was found there at the time of the battle. Per "The Afghan War of 1879-80" by Howard Hensman (available on Google books) the battle was about 20 miles from Ghazni, and after the battle the British column spent the night at Nani, within 15 miles of Ghazni. Nani can be found on modern maps of Afghanistan, near the A1 south of Ghazni. The night before the battle, the British column stayed at the town of Mushaki, which is also found on modern maps, farther south on the A1.

The Battle of Ahmed Khel must have occurred somewhere near modern day Pachawal or Nyazullah, but exactly which of the hills in the area is hard to tell without more info.

I have removed the existing coordinates, which are plainly wrong as they are nowhere near to the route from Kandahar to Ghazni. Since the exact location of the battle seems to be uncertain, I have restored the {{coord missing}} tag. — TransporterMan (TALK) 19:34, 6 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
