Name

[edit]

Shouldn't this be at Berlin zoological garden?-- Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus | talk  19:14, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

perhaps - the name however is not as important as the content --Keerllston 04:34, 24 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think the name is important. Cheers!

Subject matter

[edit]

I have only been to this zoo once, but if I go again, I will seriously consider trying to fix the content of this article. Right now, more than half of the information is on Knut than on the zoo itself. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.126.130.146 (talk) 06:10, 4 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, written by me, forgot to log in. :P --Mooseberry (talk) 03:30, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This so-called urban legend about the FIRST allied bomb killing the ONLY elephant is absurd. The zoo had a HUGE elephant house built before 1914, which housed several african and indian elephants. It was severely damaged during a bomb raid in november 1943 and demolished after the war. Several elephants were killed during the raid, there a pictures existing of the burned elephants. I removed this absurd statement —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.178.71.151 (talk) 12:14, 29 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Rating (2010-09)

[edit]

I've de-rated this to C for WPZOO. It is inadequately cited for anything higher than this, and needs to have a really good copy edit. In addition, coverage is inadequate for a B-class article, as pointed out in the WP Germany assessment. It needs a section on Exhibits, a section on Conservation, and a section on The future. I have filled in the remainder of the WP Germany assessment because WPZOO does not allow this (gotta go fix that). Donlammers (talk) 13:47, 6 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

History not very complete

[edit]

Considering the temporary division of Germany from 1945 to 1990, this article does not tell us much about its history during this period. Obviously, it was rebuilt, but was it rebuilt as an East Berlin zoo, or a West Berlin zoo? How was the wildlife array rebuilt? If west, how were the animals brought in through East German territory, and if east, how accessible was it from outside East Germany? Was its restoration hindered by the division of the country, and then the restoration quickened and enriched by reunification, or was the division and reunification not a factor in the zoo's restoration? This would all be very useful information to understand the zoo's history between the end of the Second World War and the 1990s. GBC (talk) 04:02, 17 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

True. The Cohm story is the only thing told here, and not quite correctly. The zoo (in the west!) rebuilt and opened many big areas and exhibits, and many important things happened. See the many books on the zoo's history or the bestseller "the zookeepers war". Someone needs to re-write the whole chapter. 80.187.110.249 (talk) 09:52, 22 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Berlin Zoological GardenBerlin Zoo – The shortened name is by far more common, standard for zoo names on Wikipedia. PaleoMatt (talk) 01:40, 6 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
