Attack destroyed/damaged 8 of 10 Harriers based there[edit]
No mention that Harriers were based there since this summer. Since the unit was essentially wiped out, remains to be seen if USMC feels it safe to base jets there again. Viet Cong mortar attacks never destroyed this many aircraft in one attack, and they never got onto the airbase at Bien Hoa.

...On Friday Sept. 14, at around 10.15 p.m. local time, a force of Taliban gunmen attacked Camp Bastion, in Helmand Province, the main strategic base in southwestern Afghanistan.
About 15 insurgents (19 according to some reports), wearing U.S. Army uniforms, organized into three teams, breached the perimeter fence and launched an assault on the airfield... The attackers fired machine guns, rocket propelled grenades and possibly mortars against aircraft parked next to the airport’s runway. Two U.S. Marines were killed in the subsequent fighting whereas eight of 10 AV-8B+ Harrier jets of the Yuma-based Marine Attack Squadron (VMA) 211 were destroyed (6) or heavily damaged (2): the worst U.S. air loss in one day since the Vietnam War.Redhanker (talk) 04:22, 21 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The "Operational units" section has only recently been created and contains only units where a reference could be provided and at the moment is mostly all British, the American units are displayed on the Camp Leatherneck article and the main details about the attack on the 14th Sept is on the 14 September 2012 Camp Bastion attack article. The section does currently have a "This section requires expansion" notice on it explaining it is nowhere near complete. Gavbadger (talk) 11:48, 21 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Why, in the "Occupants" section of the infoxbox, have former occupants been struck through? The dates of their occupation are provided, making it clear that they are no longer incumbent. The strikethroughs therefore appear to serve a different agenda. danno_uk21:45, 26 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
