Use of motorized vehicles

[edit]

Hey, I just wanted to point out a discrepancy in captions in this article and the article for the polar bear (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polar_bear). In the polar bear's page, it says in the section "Contemporary Regulations" , subsection "Canada and the United States, there is a picture of the CED that states "Dogsleds are used for recreational hunting of polar bears in Canada. Use of motorized vehicles is forbidden." This is where the discrepancy occurs, as on the CED page it says "They are sometimes used for recreational hunting of polar bears in Canada. Use of motorized vehicles, such as snow machines, is more common."

I don't know which one is correct, and the information was not in the sources cited on the wikipedia page. I will look into this more later, I just wanted to know if anyone knew the information directly. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Musiclover3444 (talkcontribs) 18:04, 17 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Article Text

Parts of this article read like a dog care bog. 24.247.222.255 01:51, 18 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The 2nd picture shows a group of Huskies, not Canadian Eskimo Dogs. I changed the caption to read "This is a picture of Huskies", since I don't know how to upload a pic of the correct breed. Someone reverted my change. Better to delet the photo than to have it show the wrong breed of dog. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.143.201.77 (talk) 01:17, 22 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The image was merely incorrectly labelled, but if you read Ansgar Walk's photo description correctly, it says English: "Canadian Inuit Dog" (Canis familiaris borealis), official Animal of Nunavut. In addition to this, you also have to realize that the term 'Husky' or 'Exquimaux Husky' has also been used to refer to this specific breed of dog in the past (it's a general term, which doesn't refer to any specific species. See Husky for more information and comparison to other breeds). - Io Katai (talk) 02:30, 22 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Repeated Adjectives

[edit]

Not a huge thing, but the paragraph temperament talks about loyalty twice. I'm a newer editor, is this ok? Techdude 42 (talk) 03:15, 16 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

This citation link gives an error on the website it links to. I'm guessing this should be fixed. Techdude 42 (talk) 03:34, 16 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Spelling

[edit]

I tried to change "color' to the correct spelling of "colour" in the sidebar, but when I do so, the entire colour section disapears. Anyone know how to fix this? this is the bit between "Coat" and "Classifications ...".Kurtdriver (talk) 22:52, 22 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It's part of the template and needs to be changed there. CambridgeBayWeather (talk) 17:30, 23 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Updated the template and this article. CambridgeBayWeather (talk) 23:40, 23 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Why can't 'Americans' spell correctly or did Webster choose to change spelling? 2604:3D09:A27F:FE70:20A0:AB5B:6660:3D2B (talk) 17:46, 20 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

New Section - "Controversies"

[edit]

Before my edits, the article's introduction and history sections presented the RCMP dog killings in a misleading and inflammatory manner. I've attempted to improve this by adding a new section called "controversies". The new section covers both sides of the killings debate using neutral language and without drawing any conclusion. This content doesn't belong in the history section while the history itself is controversial. Also, two very different and distinct controversies exist, which further warrants a unique section.

Regarding the decline and "resurgence" of the breed:
