Victuallers 21:15, 23 March 2007 (UTC) Cary-Grove has done very well in Illinios High School Assciation (IHSA) Class 6A football the last two years. It reached the finals in 2004 and semi-finals in 2005.[reply]

I have both the results from the USCF proving my claim correct and taken from D155's own site acknowledging the team winning state. I am aware that you say that blogs can be unreliable but i urge you to look at this,『The ICCA again this year, with permission from the IHSA, will provide awards to the top placing teams in each Class based on school size. School size is based upon enrollments determined by the IHSA.』^[1]

I would appreciate it if my factual information about the music department and alumni not be removed. Someone once posted here, "Doesn't anyone have anything to say about C-G besides sports?" Well, I did. You can look in any yearbook from the 1970s to verify that what I have added is fact. I would say that the two Broadway musicians I listed DO constitute "notable alumni." If you're going to mention the names of coaches and players in the Sports section, then the inclusion of past music teachers also merits inclusion. I strongly encourage editors to expand this article. While you are doing this, I advise you to look at other articles that have been rated as good (or nearly good) articles. Articles such as Benet Academy and Fenwick High School are fairly local schools which have very good articles written about them, and can serve as models regarding the expansion of this school article.

Regarding notable alumni. The schools project, which sets general guidelines for school articles has gained consensus that alumni should not be listed in school articles unless they are either already the subject of a Wikipedia article, or would otherwise be eligible for one under the general notability policyorspecific notability guidelines for people. Only on rare occasions are alumni who do not fit these guidelines permitted to stay in a school article.

According to the guidelines one what should not be listed in school articles, the names of staff and students who do not meet the notability or BIO guidelines should not be mentioned. This applies equally to the names of athletic coaches as much as it applies to the names of music directors.

Most importantly -- Information must be reliably sourced and cited. Ideally, this means that the sources used to verify information comes from sources that are independent of the school. The more extraordinary the claim, the more important it is to have a source independent of the school. For example, the name of the principal might be cited from the school website. Claiming that a famous person attended the school probably requires an outside source. Claiming a team won a state/national championship, requires an outside source.

It seems that some of my information was also removed, I realize now that this was most likely due to the mentioning of names and lack of sources as I did not want to go through all of the records to find them. But there is a common misconception that the volleyball team was the first team to win the state title, and this is false as is shown in Cary-Grove students show off chess prowess at tournament in this article by Susan Polgar at http://susanpolgar.blogspot.com/2008_02_17_archive.html

"The team took first place in the 4A class, which is for schools with enrollments of 1,801 to 2,200 students.

The victory came after the team won its conference, the Northern Illinois Chess League, in each of the past three years.

Blogs are not generally reliable sources, and this one is no exception. There is no class 4A in IHSA chess, and there never has been. Just because an outside individual crowns someone a state champion, does not make it so. As this link clearly shows, from the inception of the IHSA state title in 1975, until 1994, there were two classes in chess (A and AA). Starting in 1995, the IHSA moved the entire state chess championship into a single class. There has never been a Class 4A IHSA state chess champion. It is clear that Susan Polgar is in error in noting the team as an IHSA state chess champion. LonelyBeacon (talk) 19:50, 1 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I attended from 1961 - 1966, second Freshman class. This stuff on the page about Trojan "condoms" and "Better safe than sorry" must be someone's idea of a joke and sounds like utter rubbish and ought to be removed. The mascot "Trojans" has its origins in Greek legend and has nothing to do with any brand of condom. "Trojans" was a common mascot choice in the late 50's eary '60's due to the notoriety of USC, the colors Purple and White as well as the school song came from Northwestern U --- much bigger in football back then than today. I'm no one to go touching a Wiki page, but someone ought to correct this. We didn't think there was anything funny about the name of our mascot. But then times change. Purple and white uniforms got harder to find and fell out of fashion. I have reverted EnglishSpeech's good faith edit of the principal from Jay Sargeant to Rob Boncoszcy, as their staff directory still lists Jay Sargeant as the current Principal.
