"his novels often dealt with LGBT characters"

[edit]

Is this true? I'm not familiar with his whole bibliography, but the only novels mentioned in this article dealing with LGBT themes are The City and the Pillar and Myra Breckinridge. Were there others? Perhaps the word "often" should be deleted? Colin M (talk) 17:32, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

While Vidal's novels (among them the ones Colin M mentioned, Washington, D.C. (novel), and others ) did include characters across the spectrum of human sexuality, this statement is incomplete and should be amended to 1. encompass Vidal's essays on the subject of sexuality (among them "Sex and the Law," "Sex is Politics," and "Pink Triangle and Yellow Star"), and 2. change "dealing with LGBT themes" to "interrogate social and cultural sexual norms," which I will add. U know the deal (talk) 21:03, 27 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The second sentence of the main article announces that Vidal was bisexual as if that were somehow the key to him or his writing. However, the second sentence of an article about me should not announce that I happen to be heterosexual as if that is tantamount to some wonderful revelation or insight into my cerebral activity. The entire article on Vidal suffers from this emphasis on sexuality and also a lack of emphasis on the amusing, biting, witty nature of Vidal's work, which I found entertaining even as a hetero capitalist. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.49.27.38 (talk) 20:59, 14 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
