If the genus is defined as having an Indo-Pacific distribution, it's not clear how murex snails ended up playing such a large part in ancient Middle Eastern and Greek society based around the Mediterranean. —Sangdeboeuf (talk) 12:50, 10 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
