Comments[edit]

Source?[edit]

What is the source/date for that letter from the Archbishop to Philip II? It should probably be footnoted...

Title[edit]

Hmm, I never noticed this before but the title of the article sounds weird. How about "Ottoman Cyprus" or "Ottoman rule of Cyprus"? Or something... Baristarim 02:44, 9 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Like Ottoman Greece, Ottoman Armenia, Ottoman Crete I would prefer Ottoman Cyprus. GRprefectures-have-been-dissolved (talk) 12:07, 9 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Britain[edit]

If the transition of Cyprus from Ottoman Turks is correct then why did Cyprus become Britains' 1st May 1925. In fact you will find that the UK had garrison in Cyprus from 1878 but the ottoman's retained administrative control. My great grandfather was imprisoned in the castle at Kyrenia by the British as were a number of other prominent Turkish Cypriots during World War 1. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.97.216.21 (talk) 23:47, 25 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed merge[edit]

Where's the big difference between "Cyprus under the Ottoman Empire" to "Ottoman Cyprus" anyway? They both basically mean the same thing.--eh bien mon prince (talk) 23:55, 17 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
There is a difference, why was it changed then? 23x2 (talk) 11:17, 18 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Not just Greeks and Turks![edit]

"By 1970, ethnic Turks represented 18% of the total population of the island, with ethnic Greeks representing the remainder" -- Umm, hello? What about Armenians, Maronites, Latins? 207.38.251.189 (talk) 07:25, 29 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Focus[edit]

The lede and the infobox say that this is about the eyalet of Cyprus, but the social section and the sections on the Greeks are about a different era. Is this article supposed to be about Ottoman Cyprus, which in some form or other continued to exist down to 1914 or is it about the eyalet, which was subsumed into the eyalet of the Archipelago? Srnec (talk) 13:38, 6 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
