Magsaysay award = Asia's Nobel Peace Prize?

[edit]

Hey, I think Magsaysay award at best can be equated to Asia's Nobel prizes and no more. Also, the categories are probably different, except for literature and peace. I'll wait for responses for a couple of days and then change it as equivalent to Asia's Nobel Prize.Ravish kumar

Gurubrahma 11:41, 13 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I think the prize is equated to Nobel peace prize because the nobel prize for peace is also awarded to people based on Service to people. The comparison is done at a higher level, not the details of categories. From the awardees list, it seems that people who got it are those who have made significant changes in the society as a whole through their work. So, the comparison is with Nobel Peace prize, and not with the Nobel prize in other categories. But of course, you may be right thinking from a different direction. --Ragib 23:12, 13 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

@STSC: Noted your undo. My objection to the claim is (1) the two sources do not provide any insight into who authoritatively "considers" the Magsaysay "Asia's Nobel Prize", they are merely two press reports which go only so far as to say that the reporters & editors think it sounds good, which is my second objection, (2) that this is just cutsie-pie journalism, i.e. adding a focal point of interest to their report with no justification, (3) that there is nothing to distinguish Magsaysay's claim from that of others for the awards, and that (4) there are multiple organisations vying for the same respectability by association (e.g. The Shaw Prize, Confucius Peace Prize, Tang Prize Foundation, Future Science Awards, Lui Che Woo Prize for World Civilization), that (5) the reality is that it is just a crass attempt at self-promotion by hanging onto the coat-tails of a revered institution and WP should not be conscripted to that cause, (6) the Magsaysay itself has a strong Philippines awardee bias and is not structured or governed in any sense similarly to the Nobel; and (7) of course, the claim is devoid of any verifiable factual foundation. It's just marketing. It shouldn't be parroted here. sirlanz 14:58, 14 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe you have a point there, particularly about the Philippines for which I don't have a high opinion. STSC (talk) 16:16, 14 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Asia or South-South East Asia

[edit]

Lookin at the recepient list I saw only SE Asian nations or Southern nations (India and Pakistan seeming to be the western border). There where no names from the Middle East, Central Asiat or North Asia (i.e. Russia and the rest of former USSR). Is this for lack of worthy recepients or is the prize limited to only parts of Asia? In any case, it should be states that "As of 2010 no-one from the Middle East or the former USSR got the prize". DGtal (talk) 15:17, 8 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

False website of Magsaysay Award

[edit]

When the website given in the Wikipedia is clicked, the Magsaysay Award page opens but when we want to click some comments on the Twitter icon on the page, it disappears? What may be the cause? Maybe the awards given this time is not proper and in tune with the the sanctity of this award! Mkvermasbi (talk) 04:13, 3 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The website is correct. The old website's domain is only being used for email and if you visit there, it gives Error 403. The youtube link is well active, but yeah not the FB or Twitter link. Lets wait for some time, if they rectify. I have sent an email though. RHTKMR

Why not a category?

[edit]

From 2009, RM Awards were no longer given for categories except for Emergent Leadership. Therefore, awardees names from 2009-2012 are erroneously included in categories. Awardees for these years should be listed under years instead of categories. Please refer to the 2012 RM Awards Program for more information and for the full list. Phlheritage (talk) 08:21, 6 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I believe that lists like these will remain incomplete or have red links. I'd think that a category would be a much better idea. --Gurubrahma 13:43, 17 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Don't worry bout the red links, try my best to make it complete. Its better to have a list so that the readers can see each awardee by year. :) --Noypi380 13:49, 17 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
But I'm still open to using a cat :) --Noypi380 15:11, 17 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Converted to table

[edit]

I converted the list to a table to make it easier for anyone to sort by year, name or country. Also, I removed the sole reference of a citation - the reference is easily accessed from the external link to rmaf.org.ph. If we include the citation ref, then we'll have to include the links to each of the citations on the website, creating reference bloat. Oops daisy (talk) 14:39, 12 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Blank

[edit]

There are some blank in year 2011 and 2010. I cannot find the name of awardee. Please find and fill them. Thank you so much. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Manzzzz (talkcontribs) 05:59, 3 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Sort by year
