A welcome from SteveO

[edit]

Hello, STSC, and welcometoWikipedia! Thank you for your contributions; I hope you like the place and decide to stay. We're glad to have you in our community! Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Though we all make goofy mistakes, here is what Wikipedia is not. If you have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to see the help pages or add a question to the village pump. The Community Portal can also be very useful.

Happy editing!

-- SteveO 21:44, 4 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. Feel free to leave a message on my talk page if you need help with anything or simply wish to say hello.

The Contribution Team cordially invites you to Imperial College London

You are world famous!

[edit]

A quote from Foreign Policy magazine from China and Japan's Wikipedia War: Some editors supported changing the article's name to "Pinnacle Islands" -- the English-language name for the island chain used in the 19th century -- to mitigate concerns about article bias. This attempt at a compromise was quickly shot down, even as the talk page rhetoric heated up. "These pro-Japanese editors just a bunch of bully boys and hooligans!" an editor named STSC vented. (The wikilink to the talk page discussion where you made the comment was included in the article at the exact same way here, as a hyperlink.) This is amazing! :) Anir1uph | talk | contrib 22:25, 5 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

For your comments on Talk:Chairman. It's amazing how everyone can link to COMMONNAME and not notice that paragraph you pointed out. EvergreenFir (talk) Please {{re}} 04:06, 21 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Wikiproject United Nations: We need you!

[edit]

Dear STSC, I noticed your name was under the participants' list of WikiProject United Nations. I wanted to invite you to contribute to the advancement of this project. Here's how you can do so: 1. Select the latest CC BY SA publications for which no articles have been created yet available here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_United_Nations/Open_Access_text/Education_publications 2. Follow the instructions available here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:Adding_open_license_text_to_Wikipedia 3. Add the text to Wikipedia (either by creating new articles or adding content to existing ones). Since these are available under CC BY SA, you can copy/paste content and/or edit if need be. 4. Attribute the text using the 'Free-content attribution' template in the 'Sources' section. 5. Add your contribution in the table here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_United_Nations/Open_Access_text/Education_publications Don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions! Looking forward to working with you on enriching Wikipedia, one article at a time:)! C.recalde   — Preceding unsigned comment added by C.recalde (talkcontribs) 11:04, 7 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

New WikiProject Socialism membership system

[edit]

Hello! I'm in the process of introducing a new membership system to WikiProject Socialism (designed as part of WikiProject X and adopted by a few other projects). The new system works by filling a form which creates a WikiProject Card. I'm manually creating WikiProject cards for current members. You can find and edit yours here. Any change to your WikiProject card will be automaticalle updated at Wikipedia:WikiProject Socialism/Members. If you have any doubt, please, feel free to contact me by replying here using the {{re}} template. Best, --MarioGom (talk) 14:47, 20 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

2019 US Banknote Contest

[edit]
US Banknote Contest
November-December 2019

There are an estimated 30,000 different varieties of United States banknotes, yet only a fraction of these are represented on Wikimedia Commons in the form of 2D scans. Additionally, Colonial America, the Confederate States, the Republic of Texas, multiple states and territories, communities, and private companies have issued banknotes that are in the public domain today but are absent from Commons.

In the months of November and December, WikiProject Numismatics will be running a cross-wiki upload-a-thon, the 2019 US Banknote Contest. The goal of the contest is to increase the number of US banknote images available to content creators on all Wikimedia projects. Participants will claim points for uploading and importing 2D scans of US banknotes, and at the end of the contest all will receive awards. Whether you want to claim the Gold Wiki or you just want to have fun, all are invited to participate.

If you do not want to receive invitations to future US Banknote Contests, follow the instructions here

ArbCom 2019 election voter message

[edit]
Hello! Voting in the 2019 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 on Monday, 2 December 2019. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2019 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:07, 19 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Happy Earth Day!

Hello! Wishing you a Happy Earth day on the behalf of WikiProject Environment and WikiProject Ecology.

When man tries to fight nature, he invariably loses. Nature invariably wins. It is only when man is wise enough to live with nature that he really gets anywhere.

    Organized labour project

    [edit]

Thank you for earlier joining the Organized Labour project. I've been a participant in the project since 2006 and am helping with a revival of it. As part this we are introducing a new membership system, which will help with communications among participants. This involves creating a membership file for each participant within your user space (you can see an example of my membership card here: User:Goldsztajn/WikiProjectCards/WikiProject Organized Labour). This system is already in operation within a number of wikiprojects (such as Women in Red and Medicine). You will not have to do anything, myself or someone else from the project will create the relevant file within your userspace. However, I am conscious that it is not polite to change an editor's userspace without notice. If I don't hear from you in the negative, I will go ahead with making the change after the 18th of January. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. Many thanks for supporting the project, in solidarity, --Goldsztajn (talk) 13:20, 12 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Talk Page Consensus

    [edit]

Hey @STSC: Just wanted to follow up on your discussions on the talk page related to Rising Sun Flag, in which you discuss whether to delete some content from the lede. After the discussion was archived, user XiAdonis has deleted the section, claiming that as you had not responded to his last counterargument, there was a consensus in favor of deletion. On my interpretation of the comments, I don't think that there was any consensus? Could you let me know of what you intended when you last posted on that page and, if I'm right, what to do with the user's repeated deletions? Thanks NettingFish15019 (talk) 15:10, 3 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Apple Daily front page

    [edit]

Notwithstanding what is stated in WP:NONFREE, which is but a guideline, I invite you to take a look at other newspaper articles. You will find very few exceptions (if any at all) to the practice of having the image pf a front page. On that basis, I shall be reverting your edit once again. I don't expect to be reverted again unless you can demonstrate that my assertion is manifestly incorrect. Regards, -- Ohc revolution of our times 22:46, 9 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Layout

    [edit]

Per Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Layout, " Very short sections and subsections clutter an article with headings and inhibit the flow of the prose. Short paragraphs and single sentences generally do not warrant their own subheading." Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 20:33, 9 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

    You don't use """ instead of == for the headings. STSC (talk) 20:43, 9 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Do you understand what I wrote? It appears you don't. Short paragraphs and single sentences generally do not warrant their own subheading Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 20:47, 9 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
You should not use bold text, otherwise you're making it a sub-heading. STSC (talk) 20:53, 9 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
