Pangolin trade[edit]

)
[[File:|120x133px|A young ground pangolin. ]]
A young ground pangolin.
  • Reviewed: Mia Borders
  • Comment: There are plenty of possible hooks here. I chose the one I did because it's in almost all of the sources and because it's very short and simple. There are also plenty of possible images. I opted for this first one because, frankly, it's cute and might draw the most clicks. There are a bunch of others at User:Rhododendrites/pangolin. There are also some sadder ones more directly relevant to the trade, but since a whole lot of people have never heard of pangolins, it seems like a clear image of the animal itself is the best way to go (rather than a subpar photo of a dead animal, for example).

Created by Rhododendrites (talk). Self-nominated at 18:27, 4 March 2017 (UTC).

  • Article was created on February 25 (less than a week ago). At 8172 characters of prose, more than long enough. QPQ done. Passes the Earwig test. The hook fact is amply cited, and in general the inline citations are well done throughout the article. I think the hook fact is catchy enough to serve quite well. Regarding the image, it is definitely free use... the only problem is that according to the DYK reviewing guide, the image should appear in the article. @Rhododendrites: would you consider replacing the first image in the article with this one? I think it could be a good choice for the article itself, since it shows the animal's (coveted) scales in high relief. — AJDS talk 11:56, 5 March 2017 (UTC)
  • @Alekjds: Thanks. I hadn't realized the image needed to be in the article. Certainly fine with adding it. Before I do so, could I just get your opinion on whether this one is indeed the best for the DYK spot among the others at User:Rhododendrites/pangolin? (i.e. is there another one there that you think would be better?) — Rhododendrites talk \\ 13:43, 5 March 2017 (UTC)
  • @Rhododendrites: I like the one you chose. The criteria I'd be looking to satisfy would be: adequately full depiction of the animal (so, not the one in its... for lack of a better way to say this, rolled up form); appealing (or, as you put it, cute!); and a quality image. I think yours meets those requirements. The only other one I thought might be a contender was this one. Let me know once you've added the picture (whichever one you choose) to the article and I'll give this DYK the green light. — AJDS talk 16:15, 5 March 2017 (UTC)
  • @Alekjds:  Done. Will probably play with the placement of images later, as it's getting a bit crowded, but that's probably not a concern for DYK purposes. Regardless, it's in the article now. I also like the one you linked to (which is why I uploaded a cropped/rotated version the other day, thinking of DYK), but I do think the first one looks better when small, despite not showing the entire animal. Sounds like we're good to go. :) — Rhododendrites talk \\ 16:21, 5 March 2017 (UTC)
  • Agreed. Happy to give this article my approval. — AJDS talk 21:57, 5 March 2017 (UTC)
