Information icon Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. When you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion (but never when editing articles), please be sure to sign your posts. There are two ways to do this. Either:

  1. Add four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment; or
  2. With the cursor positioned at the end of your comment, click on the signature button (or) located above the edit window.

This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is necessary to allow other editors to easily see who wrote what and when.

Signature

[edit]

Per WP:SIGLINK, your signature should contain at least one link to your user page, talk page or contributions page. Either make sure "Treat the above as wiki markup" is unticked in the settings, or set it to something like [[User:RIT RAJARSHI|Rajarshi Rit]].

Also, there is no need to add a new signature every time you edit your previous comment. You can either leave the previous one there or replace it with a new one. A new signature is only needed if you make a new comment. nyuszika7h (talk) 13:56, 24 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia and thank you for your contributions. I am glad to see that you are discussing a topic. However, as a general rule, talk pages such as Talk:Time are for discussion related to improving the article, not general discussion about the topic or unrelated topics. If you have specific questions about certain topics, consider visiting our reference desk and asking them there instead of on article talk pages. I have removed your comment from the talk page. The best place to go is probably wp:Reference desk/science. Good luck. - DVdm (talk) 08:13, 25 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Sine bot also giving me Warnings.

Why is this happening so-many times? Rajarshi Rit 14:59, 25 March 2016 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by RIT RAJARSHI (talkcontribs)

Hello and welcome @RIT RAJARSHI: Your signature needs to link to your user talk page, or it is not recognized as a signature. Instructions on how to do so can be found at This page. You can also revert to the default signature by clearing out the preferences you changed to create your custom signature. The simplest way to fix the problem, if you want to change your custom signature to work right, is to set it to [[User talk:RIT RAJARSHI|Rajarshi Rit]]. I hope that helps. --Jayron32 15:07, 25 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Problems and Suggestions regarding wikibook

[edit]

( Also submitted at Help:Books/Feedback )

Thanks for this feedback pole on Wikibook. Here I post, the problems that I’m facing as user.

So please ensure successful inclusion of links into the book, when-ever and where-ever the options for add (+) and remove (-) page is available.

Please include the new-entries automatically, without reload.

So, please do-not allow so-easy deletion of entries. Show at-least 2 warnings, and may also provide “turn off” the page removal button. On the book, keep a trace of pages deleted from outside/inside the book.

(Surprisingly, I’m seeing, book-creator can recognize dragging error, and place such wrongly-dragged page-name into the initial zone. However, sometimes it acts on correct-drags also. )

So, a simple, effective remedy could-be taken: Please provide all the new-entries on a separate, Side- Palette. They could be scrolled separately. Then we could scroll the existing book-content to find the proper place, & then click-and-drag the respective new-entry into proper-place of the book. This-will help to avoid scrolling through so-many headings(page-names).

i. The page-names, often change their place automatically. Causes I don’t know. ii. The page-names, change their place automatically, if I replace a page-name >1 times on a single edit-session. iii. While dragging 1 page-name, sometimes, >1 page-names get moved, simultaneously. Causes I don’t know.

So , please ensure the chapter-names don’t change their place automatically. If this is caused by problems with temporary auto-save ( … I guess), then there is a simple way. Instead of temporary-auto-save, use temporary-manual-save. Provide option like “lock it” or “Stepple it” or “pin it” or such, that is to be manually selected by user. Once placed, if the user again wants to change place of a page-name, the user have to manually select an option like “unlock it” or “remove stepple” etc. Before proceed to change place of another page-name, user must-have to Lock the the previous page-name.

Also, several-pages (under a chapter-heading) could be “grouped” manually, so-that all-the pages in a chapter, stay together. If someone want to move a whole chapter (with all its pages, maintaining sequence), this “manual” grouping would help.

By this way, usually, I don’t need the “arrange alphabetically” option. More-over, accidental/ erroneous click on this option can destroy months or years of labor to re-order. So, please keep an option to turn-Off this option, and also display warnings.

Please ensure, while saving the last-edit, both-copies get updated simultaneously and automatically. Warn, if I start edit an old-version. Notify, I’m editing on latest revision. Please display, conflicts in recent edits, specially, if there are some-pages more in older-versions, those are absent in newer version.

Please automatically add them to next edits

May 2016

[edit]

Information icon Hello, I'm ChamithN. I wanted to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions to Stereophonic sound has been undone because it did not appear constructive. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. See MOS:IMGSIZE ChamithN (talk) 05:27, 1 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I've copy-pasted further conversation on this topic, from ChamitN's talk page.

About image size

[edit]

(About the page stereophonic sound )

Thanks for informing me.

I expanded the graph to maximum size , and aligned it to the centre, because it seemed to me that, it could give a better visualization about what's goes-on in a stereophonic sound. And the other image, was slightly increased than default; just because it is a diagram.

Not only for this page, where-ever in Wikipedia I encounter diagrams , whose labelings are not visible at-a-glance, or difficultly readable, I try to increase the image size. I didn't knew well about wikipedia's terms and conditions about image size (i'm not experienced user) , and i don't know whether those edits by me are being maintained or not.

While reading a scientific text, clicking on the diagrams all the time (to read the labelings) , is quite irritating.

In-fact many critical things actually may remained unnoticed if someone read a scientific text , not matching it with the diagram. And also, several times while reading Wiki pages i've noticed i've missed a diagram (didn't click on a diagram), Just because i couldn't read some labelings of the diagram at-a-glance, so didn't realize the importance. (think about a person trying to understand a phenomenon, thinking, scribbling on paper, flipping pages of books & websites, obviously be benefited if the person could realize, clicking on which link would reach to stronger answer. Or think about a non-expert , say a kid, is reading a topic. Normally it could fail to decide click on an image, and thereafter correlating the thought with text. (especially on a topic like stereophonic sound ... about which, the kid may be already preoccupied with a lots of popular misconceptions like stereophonic gadgets contain 2 speaker to increase loudness et cetera. )

However I've nothing to do if the sizes flouted rules and regulations. But , I always think, diagrams should appear in properly readable sizes. Surprisingly, there exists a trend to show photographs in larger size and diagrams in smaller size. But the thing should be opposite (with exceptions also). RIT RAJARSHI (talk) 13:37, 3 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@RIT RAJARSHI: I too agree that visibility matters when it comes to diagrams. However, the thing is, forcing image size like this often causes accessibility issues for mobile users. And, frankly, these guidelines aren't employed in some articles (whereas they should be) due to less scrutiny and overall article quality. In any case, if you think the guidelines regarding image size is unreasonable, you can always start a discussion at Wikipedia:Village pumptochange the current consensus. Cheers! -- ChamithN (talk) 14:36, 3 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@ChamithN: To mean "like this" You cited a revision that was too old. But in latter revisions, i adjusted them. though the graph was kept big, the diagram made much smaller than the white space. Such as in the last revision did by me (that i found in contrib list) it was like that. It was happened because I took time to learn use of preview, sandbox, etc. I did the edits on the article's page in several steps , quite non-seriously and i'm sorry for that.

However, how to start a discussion in vlllage pump? Earlier i asked questions and lodged complaints on village pump, but i don't know about that consensus or discussion.

Thanks.

RIT RAJARSHI (talk) 15:15, 3 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

As you can see, the images are still too large for the lead (in terms of Thumbnail sizes) in this revision. On a different note, it's quite OK to save edits contiguously as long as they are not test edits.
Regarding Wikipedia:Village pump, you just have to select the specific section where you think is the best to address your issue, and initiate a discussion (e.g: If you want to discuss about a change to a policy, then Wikipedia:Village pump (policy)). To do so, click new section from the toolbar and state your concern(s). Once you have done that, keep track of the discussion by adding the page to your watchlist. You'll know when it has reached a consensus. -- ChamithN (talk) 16:20, 3 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Could I rate/ change the rating of an wiki article's class, importance, etc?

[edit]

Suppose an wiki article is already rated as low importance, but i think it should be upgraded as mid importance. could i do that? if not, then could i suggest that? and how? Could i newly rate one? RIT RAJARSHI (talk) 07:35, 3 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, RIT RAJARSHI, and welcome to the Teahouse. Technically you can, but I would suggest getting more experience so you can have a better feel for what is appropriate. If something is clearly a stub, you could class it as a stub. Rating importance is more difficult, as an article as simple as liqueur may engender a high level of importance. Cheers! {{u|Checkingfax}} {Talk} 07:44, 3 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
You can read more about importance and quality assessments here, and here, RIT RAJARSHI. – Finnusertop (talkcontribs) 08:01, 3 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I suggest that you upgrade halfway decent stub articles to start without hesitation, RIT RAJARSHI. In my opinion, there are a lot of stub articles that have been improved over time but have not been upgraded. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 08:24, 3 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Could I upload image taken from a public museum?

[edit]

Could I upload image taken from a public museum? Would it hamper the copyright? ( And what for a zoological garden,or a botanical etc )?

RIT RAJARSHI (talk) 07:28, 3 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to the Teahouse, RIT RAJARSHI. You have asked an excellent question, and if you love visiting museums as much as I do, then I encourage you to upload as many museum photos as possible. What follows is a brief summary of a very complex area. First of all, please comply with the museum's photography policy for each specific exhibit. It is common that a museum may allow photography of its permanent collection but maybe not for some of its temporary exhibits. In general, photos of zoological or botanical topics are copyright free and OK to upload. The same applies to ancient and Renaissance art, and archeological objects. These items are not covered by copyright. On the other hand, contemporary art published and displayed since 1923 is usually copyrighted and cannot be uploaded in general. But great photography and public art paid for by the U.S. government is usually copyright free, which includes some (but not all) classic photos by Dorothea Lange and Ansel Adams. The bottom line is that the museum object that you photograph may (or may not) have an underlying copyright. You need to study the matter, verify the copyright status of each object you photograph, and be sure that you are not uploading any copyright violations. Feel free to ask more specific questions about particular objects here at the Teahouse at any time. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 08:01, 3 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

It's worth looking at which categories the templates are in. The first you mention is in Category:Protein biosynthesis templates, and the second is in Category:Biochemistry templates. You can then see which categories those categories are in. --David Biddulph (talk) 14:52, 28 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
