Vami's sister announced his passing on the Wikimedia Discord. I'll have more to say in this thread later but Vami built an incredible content portfolio over the years and it'll be staying here for a long time. Moneytrees🏝️(Talk) 17:26, 15 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

This was the last project Vami started, a few days ago. It would be nice to see, if it was brought to completion. It looks like he was probably envisioning an article about this story.

User:Vami_IV/Sandboxes/2020-2022_catalytic_converter_theft_ring

I will take this if no one else will. May Vami rest in peace. Queen of Hearts (chatstalk • she/they) 18:33, 16 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Other projects in Vami_IV's memory[edit]

Several people off-wiki have mentioned the prospect of an article improvement in Vami's memory. As GreenC mentioned above, Vami had an incomplete sandbox for the 2020-2022 catalytic converter theft ring.

I'll list a few other collaborations/projects that were mentioned:

Any other suggestions for article improvements in Vami's memory are appreciated. – Epicgenius (talk) 17:17, 16 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

2017 Arizona wildfires to FL to cap off a featured/good topic, since Vami brought six articles from that year to FA or GA status. There are four other possibly notable fires from that year (Hilltop Fire, Burro Fire, Brooklyn Fire, and Hyde Fire) that might need to be brought to GA or FA. I haven't looked at the sources to know for sure. I am in the process of making maps for each. -- Guerillero Parlez Moi 17:53, 16 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm going to try to get Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history/Assessment/Fort McKavett State Historic Site (Vami's open nomination) across the A-Class finish line. Based on this conversation, I'm also going to dedicate a project to get Battle of Poison Spring to FA to their memory. Hog Farm Talk 18:01, 16 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
when he & i worked on Gates of Heaven Synagogue, he expressed interest in working on an article about the broader history of the Jewish community in Madison. the draft is located at User:Sawyer-mcdonell/History of the Jews in Madison, Wisconsin, if anyone is interested in helping me out with the project.
some of his other future projects were Great Hanging at Gainesville (his draft here), Texas during the American-Indian wars, and the Palace of Versailles, which he abandoned working on, but still very much cared about. he also wanted to get Simón Bolívar to FA, but abandoned that goal due to not being able to effectively use Spanish-language sources; a Spanish-speaking editor(s) might want to help with that one. another few editors have decided to take up his goal of writing an article for every Texas county courthouse. i will come back to this later & add more sawyer * he/they * talk 18:28, 16 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Vami and i originally wanted to get Gates of Heaven Synagogue to FA, and i was especially excited to have someone so experienced in the FAC process working with me on that project. if anyone has advice on what steps to take next in order to bring it to FAC, or would like to help, please let me know. i'd love to realize this goal. sawyer * he/they * talk 19:38, 17 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
User talk:Vami_IV/Archive8#Articles to be checked for copyvio. The short version is that articles about modern South Korean society and culture are a terrible mess of translation copyvios, socking, poor writing, and subpar sourcing. I tried to fix a few of them but it more than I was able to handle at the time, and a large-scale community initiative would probably be needed to check and clean all the articles of copyvio. Callitropsis🌲[talk · contribs] 04:04, 17 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Callitropsis: As a member of WikiProject Korea myself, I might be interested in helping out with the Korea articles. It is utterly frustrating to me that due to systemic bias, South Korean articles' quality are subpar at best a lot of times. Prodraxis (talk) 04:53, 17 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'll have a crack at Serengeti National Park to GA+, as mentioned on his userpage. ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 06:17, 17 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
As specified above I have nominated Doom for TFA. As Dank pointed out many video game related articles have already been scheduled and it will likely appear in May, but supports are welcome in the meantime. Panini! 🥪 16:22, 17 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Could it be possible for it to appear on his bday, Panini? — ♠Ixtal ( T / C ) Non nobis solum. ♠ 02:43, 18 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Ixtal I didn't want to nominate it for a specific date at the time because the only mention of a birthday I could find was this but I wasn't too certain about it. However, the TFA coords schedule the TFAs well in advance and most of April is already booked. The consensus is for May 13, the game's anniversary, instead. Panini! 🥪 04:29, 18 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Panini!, that's fair. — ♠Ixtal ( T / C ) Non nobis solum. ♠ 10:47, 18 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yup, April 16 is his birthday. CactiStaccingCrane (talk) 15:01, 18 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I nominated Ludwigsburg Palace for a TFA rerun on 1 June, in the pending list. April is booked, and also it appeared on 18 April 2019, so would have missed the wait of five years before a rerun is possible by 2 days. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:03, 19 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It's now nominated and open for comments and support, Wikipedia:Today's featured article/requests/Ludwigsburg Palace rerun. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:45, 23 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

This is a rare accomplishment and you should be proud. If you would like, you may nominate it to appear on the Main page as Today's featured article. Keep up the great work! Cheers, FrB.TG (talk) via FACBot (talk) 00:05, 25 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

A kitten for you![edit]

Hey man, I think we're doing a good job of honoring your memory. I like to think we'll keep doing so. I still miss you. Grief doesn't diminish; life just grows around it. I think the hole your passing has left in the community similarly cannot be filled. But your example will keep on pushing the community to grow around it and keep on completing the wiki. I hope you're taking good care of yourself. Illogically, impossibly, I hope you are.

We thank you today for Felix M. Warburg House, introduced: "This article is about another of the great houses that once lined Fifth Avenue in New York. Specifically, this is the mansion of Felix M. Warburg, a Jewish financier who ignored fears of anti-Semitic reprisal to his decided to build himself a big Gothic manor in the middle of New York City. Although the Warburgs no longer remain, their legacy does: the museum is now the home of the Jewish Museum (Manhattan) and the building largely survives as they left it. It's a beautiful building and I hope you will all enjoy it."! -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:42, 10 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

We thank you today for Doom (2016 video game), "about a universally acclaimed reboot of one of the most legendary game franchises ever, and is itself hailed as one of the best games ever. This is also my comeback to FAC after many months' absence. DOOM, and yours truly, are glad to be back. Rip and tear, comrades, until is done."! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:41, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

We thank you today for Boundary Fire (2017), "about another Arizona wildfire from 2017, a busy year. In this particular fire, high winds, high temperatures, low/no humidity, and the crispy remnants of a fire 17 years before were combined by lightning into a blaze that scorched almost 18,000 acres of the Coconino National Forest. Also, this is another really short article at 828 words as of time of writing."! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:55, 30 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
