Category:Withdrawment of international organizations[edit]

Nominator's rationale: All articles in the category use the word "withdrawal" rather than "withdrawment" and the preposition "from" looks better in this context. Brandmeistertalk 18:18, 26 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
No, because that category is supposed to include articles about the act itself of withdrawing from a certain international organization, not examples of countries withdrawing from international organizations. SuperΨDro 16:12, 30 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Brexit is not an example of a country, it is about an actual withdrawal. I do think it belongs in the category. Marcocapelle (talk) 20:23, 30 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Again the category is supposed to group the topic itself of withdrawing from a given international organization. Including examples of countries withdrawing from some of those breaks the point of having the category in the first place. SuperΨDro 08:11, 1 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
What harm is there to define the scope of the category as to also include actual withdrawals? It does not break anything, it just adds something. Marcocapelle (talk) 09:53, 1 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale:delete, redundant category layer, the main article is already mentioned in the header of the subcategory, and for the biography it is not a defining characteristic (there is no mention of what exact role this person played in this respect). Weak support, technically the nomination is correct, but emigration to the British Empire sounds odd because it can still be anywhere in the world. We'd better create continent categories for cases like this. Marcocapelle (talk) 16:12, 26 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Comment The rationale offered is "to their parents" yet a crucial parent is missing - the country. I have rectified by by adding Category:Emigration by country which reflects the true scope of the categories - "by country", not "by nationality / ethic". Nominator's rationale:WP:SMALLCATs. The articles are in the main NNG category or its Organizations or Politics sub-cats. If not merged/deleted, all should be renamed using "Dutch New Guinea". – FayenaticLondon 15:23, 26 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: More defining than "rulers". Since we are talking about East Frisian chieftains, margraves, counts, dukes and potestaats, and only some early medieval "dukes" (usually called dux in source texts) are sometimes claimed to be "kings" (especially by Frisian nationalists), I don't think "monarchs" is appropriate in this case. The Potestaat of Friesland was also probably not a hereditary position, but an appointed governorship, yet all potestaats were noblemen. "nobility" fits best. If we need to remove the potestaats from the tree, that's fine. Nederlandse Leeuw (talk) 14:15, 26 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Rename, this is a container category, "nobility" is a better overarching term for the various subcategories than "rulers". Marcocapelle (talk) 16:25, 26 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

It is not a case of WP:C2D because the list was recently moved without discussion. But support nomination anyway because monarchs is correct and more to the point than rulers. Marcocapelle (talk) 16:32, 26 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The argument by which I made the move was: "They were all monarchs. Even the prince-bishops are labelled monarchs everywhere." All subcategories are also about monarchs (some were recently renamed by consensus). Nederlandse Leeuw (talk) 17:24, 27 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: Per form of parent category Category:Emigrants from former countries. Strictly speaking, "Congress Poland" is just an informal description of the country. But it's the most common form. Laurel Lodged (talk) 11:30, 26 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Delete - there are only 3 articles in the subcat: Maria Bird, Thomas Gange, J. Cecil Maby and they all left the colony for the UK in infancy and should thus be removed. (Place of birth is not defining, British people moving around in the British Empire is not defining.) Categories are not a travel itinerary. For the record it is Category:Colony of Natal people. Those are the ones where the people category uses 'People from Foo'. It's easy: 'foo people' implies 'foo emigrants', 'fooian people' implies 'fooian emigrants', 'people from/of foo' implies 'emigrants from/of foo' (resp). Anything else is contrary to WP:C2C. Some have been wrongly named, certainly. (In categories, the local convention is followed rather than the global pattern, so the majority at Category:Emigrants from former countries is irrelevant.) We previously discussed a separate Category:Ladies of Milan and I guess that is still the better idea, not so much for the ladies themselves, but for the duchesses who can then stay in the duchesses tree. Surely both the ladies and the duchesses should become part of Category:Nobility from Milan. Marcocapelle (talk) 20:04, 27 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough. We can do that without renaming the category. List of Milanese consorts would remain the main article and we ignore C2D in this case. I'll BOLDly carry it out right now. Nederlandse Leeuw (talk) 19:39, 29 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: These categories are for non-defining characteristics. The 'players at international tournament' categories are typically only created for major events, such as Category:FIFA World Cup players and Category:UEFA European Championship players. The following categories are for the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations, a youth tournament, and the Caribbean Cup, a championship of a subregional confederation. This is not a high enough level to warrant a category, and would cause way too many categories to be used on player articles if one was created for every youth/regional championship. S.A. Nominator's rationale: Celebrities appearing on television shows are performances and thus this is nothing more than a WP:PERFCAT. --woodensuperman 09:49, 26 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Delete I'm sympathetic that categories are defining for reality TV shows that take unknown people and make them famous because 1 cat doesn't create clutter. But, here, all 5 of the articles I read through were already celebrities when they came on the show so this isn't defining per WP:PERFCAT. - RevelationDirect (talk) 02:55, 29 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
