Photos from museums

編集

I had questions on Commons and Meta about photos from museums. Some museums have "house rules" about taking photos. According to c:Commons:Non-copyright_restrictions#"House_rules" and c:Commons:Copyright_rules_by_subject_matter#MUSEUM then such bans are not a problem for Common. So if the photos can legally be on ja.wiki there should also not be any problems with any policy of Wikimedia Commons.

Request for help on files with BSD license

編集

Hi there - just wonder if it is possible for you to have a look at the 4 files under Category:BSD画像 (files with BSD license), and move the files to Commons if eligible? If we can clear this category, then {{BSD}} can be fully deprecated/deleted (it uses {{Go to commons}} throughout its whole history). Thank you in advance (but do not feel pressured on the request)!

Sure! I checked the files and moved them to Commons. Local files can now be deleted. Let me know if you find other licenses/categories you would like to work on.
Thank you very much! Started a discussion in Template talk:BSD as mentioned.
Separately I am looking at the following small categories:
I wanted to do Category:カシミール3Dを用いたランドサット衛星画像 also but it has 97 files remaining, so it's not in my priority right now. Thanks again!
Old versions of File:Wiki.png is now moved to Commons.
The 2 files in Category:クリエイティブ・コモンズ 表示 1.0の画像 shows a statue. In one file it is the main focus so unless the artist died long ago it can't be moved to Commons. It is unused so I suggest to delete the file. In the other file the statue is only a small part so I moved that file to Commons.
Files with {{Landsat}} should be easy because some of the files are allready moved to Commons. The rest of the files can be moved to Commons with 2 clicks per file (click "Export to Wikimedia Commons", scroll down to the bottom and click "Import").
I have added some files to Category:Suggested to delete. I think they can be deleted but the deletion process on ja.wiki is a bit hard for me to figure out so I hope someone else will have a look one day.
Thank you again!
  返信 ネイ okay I did not notice it was that old. I will move it.
The reason I suggest to delete most of the files is that they are unused and low resolution so I doubt that they will ever be used. I do not know if that is a reason to delete on ja.wiki. If it is then there may be more files in Special:UnusedFiles that could be deleted.
It would be very difficult to prove that a certain image will ever be used, or if there is any problem to keep them listed in UnusedFiles; moving to Commons is certainly a valid reason for deleting them.
  返信 ネイ yes sometimes old files are used and that is why I only added a few to the category. Generally all chem files are now svg. That is why I felt sure that they will not be used. I was thinking perhaps a few could be nominated for deletion and then we could wait and see what the result was.
I agree that files that are moved to Commons should be deleted. I hope more admins have time to help delete the files. There are lots of files waiting to be deleted.
I am waiting for the bot that helps removing files moved to Commons using FileImporter, since Category:コモンズへの移動により即時削除対象となったファイル has more than 8k files pending.
Wikipedia:削除依頼/X-SAMPAのIPA発音記号図版 is my first trial on deleting unused old files. These are simpler cases as they exist as old versions of files in Commons.
Yes a bot will be a big help! The total number of files in Category:コモンズと重複しているメディア and subcategory is around 22k files so there are plenty of files to check and delete.
I try to make sure that all files in Category:コモンズへの移動により即時削除対象となったファイル are unused if they have a different name on Commons. But since files are sometimes renamed on Commons and since everyone can add files to the category its a never ending job.
Do you know if anyone ia working on a bot? Deleting files with a bot is very easy. All it takes is an admin account. The question is how much checking is required before the files are deleted.
I think these 50 files (here) should be deleted manually because some of them are different photos uploaded on top of each other and sometimes they are split up in 2 files on Commons.

Thank you ネイ! Yes it is not possible to nominate them all in one big deletion discussion. I think it is okay to bundle a few files if the reason are similar. If this is also closed as delete then I think there is a good concensus that files that is no longer being used can be deleted.

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── ネイ most of the files in Category:Free screenshot are moved to Commons but I do not think SeitenBot2 will delete it. There is one file File:Ja.wikipedia Difference display 20040120.png remaining because older versions of the file are of different mime type and FileImporter blocks it. Free screenshot is not something we want to deprecate now, but hopefully blanking it discourages its usage.

Wikipedia license migration opt-out

Hello! I created 利用者:ネイ/ファイル関連, a list of ongoing file-related discussions in jawiki. It is for keeping track of related stuff as we have been juggling around quite a few discussions; some of the discussions are not translated into English so please let me know if you need a translation for any of them. You are also welcome to add any entries to the list.--ネイ会話2021年9月4日 (土) 07:09 (UTC)返信

Hello! Sounds great. I have 2 questions:
1) I made 利用者:MGA73/NowCommonsCheck.js (activated via 利用者:MGA73/vector.js) to make it easy to mark files for retransfer etc. So I thought of adding a notice on 利用者:ネイ/ファイル関連 about it (to make more admins/file deletors help check). But it seems that the page is links to pages where discussion is going on. So where should I/you make such a notice?
2) If I want to ask about ファイル:0011qec win 1b.JPG for example should I make a notice on the talk page of the file and add a link from 利用者:ネイ/ファイル関連 to the talk page of the file? The file seems to be taken from a website so how do we know the file is licensed freely?
Places to put a notice on the new script: Yes, 利用者:ネイ/ファイル関連 is for links to ongoing discussions. I can think of Help‐ノート:ウィキメディア・コモンズへファイルを移動する方法, Wikipedia:カスタムJS/一覧, プロジェクト‐ノート:ウィキ技術部 as some possible pages to put a notice. It seems not significant enough to be placed at WP:NEWS.
0011qec win 1b.JPG: Yes, you can start a discussion at the talk page and add a link to there. Per https://web.archive.org/web/20120516095326/http://racecourse.web.infoseek.co.jp/page.htm the file is not copyright free; per the file description the uploader appears to have asked the site owner directly and obtained permission; per 利用者‐会話:Unmaokur#ウィキメディアコモンズでの no permission テンプレート貼付について I am inclined to believe that the uploader really obtained the permission. However, Infoseek had ended their website hosting service, so I do not think it is possible to contact the site owner now.--ネイ会話2021年9月25日 (土) 16:57 (UTC)返信

Files moved using CommonsHelper

編集

Hi! Recently I am trying to move some old files (those in 2004, before Commons came into existence) to Commons, and noticed that quite a few were moved using CommonsHelper and hence not eligible for not deletion. Since CommonsHelper writes file history onto the first revision of the file description page, it is likely that these files can be SD-ed per 1-5. Hence, just wonder if there is a way to get a list of files with {{NowCommons}} where the Commons file was created with CommonsHelper, and then we (or anyone with deletion rights) can review? An example is File:Yakushiji toutou 1.jpg, which I reviewed and then deleted the local copy.--ネイ会話2021年9月12日 (日) 04:27 (UTC)返信

Yes that would be good to have such a list if other users are likely to help. I had SeitenBot work on all the files with a NowCommons and the files in Category:Bot deletion not possible could not be deleted. That is 4,327 files.
I'm an admin on Commons so I can just delete the file on Commons and move with fileimporter. But users that are not admins on Commons can't do that. So It would be great if we could sort the files in those that should be possible to delete and those that need a retransfer.
Since SeitenBot and I did most of the deletions for a long time I have not bothered to find a solution. If you think other users would help out then we could perhaps make a review where users delete files eligible for deletion and if a file needs a retransfer they click "Need retransfer" and that would add "|review=retransfer" to {{NowCommons}} and that would place the file in a category only Commons admins can work on. Or perhaps they could just use HotCat and change Category:Bot deletion not possible to Category:Bot deletion not possible - need retransfer.
4,327 files is not the real number as there are 7k pages using {{NowCommons}} (not sure where this difference comes from - files with NowCommons but never tagged for CSD?); however 4.3k is not a burden that one single admin can bear. So I agree we should find a way to distinguish whether they really need a retransfer.
First, if we can find out who did the upload on Commons, then we will have a way to mass-tag some files (e.g. if upload to Commons is done by the local uploader, then ファイル1-4 applies; if it is done by CommonsHelper, then retransfer is likely not required and ファイル1-5 might apply).
For the remaining files, adding a parameter seems more consistent with what en:Template:Copy to Wikimedia Commons does (where a user confirms whether a file can be copied to Commons when it is mass-tagged by a bot). This is not difficult and I can work on this today or tomorrow.--ネイ会話2021年9月12日 (日) 14:35 (UTC)返信
Yes there are 7k files. But of those files 1,6k have a keep local (Category:Wikipedia files on Wikimedia Commons for which a local copy has been requested to be kept) and many of those are moved with Fileimporter. Another 1,4k are maps (Category:Locator maps of municipalities in Japan based on maps by Lincun) and even if they are moved to Commons with a tool they may be problematic because of the colors of the maps and the problem with the file names that was not solved untill a few weeks ago. So they can be deleted in time but I think/hope that it would be easier to start with the 4,3 files :-)
About the script perhaps en:User:MGA73/nowcommonsreview.js could be used :-) --MGA73会話2021年9月12日 (日) 15:15 (UTC)返信
Hello, I added the parameter to {{NowCommons}}. Files are added to Category:コモンズの重複メディアに履歴継承の問題があるメディア when |retransfer=yes. Added this to ファイル:89式・64式小銃用銃剣レプリカ20120603.JPG as an example.
Separately, it was established in Wikipedia:削除依頼/ファイル:三角形の重心.png that {{PD-ineligible}} files do not need a retransfer, so I think we can safely add |retransfer=no with a bot to files tagged with PD-ineligible. I have started a discussion at Wikipedia:削除依頼/ファイル:MinamiFunabashiEki2004.jpg (the oldest NowCommons file on jawiki!) to see whether {{PD-self}} files need a retransfer.--ネイ会話2021年9月15日 (水) 08:36 (UTC)返信
Thanks a lot! I checked and according to this list there are only 13 files with {{PD-ineligible}} and {{NowCommons}} so in this case I think it is easier just to check and delete those files. But it would be great if we can exclude {{PD-self}} too. I have also been thinking that if GFDL and Cc-by-3.0 is added in a self template then you get a message that you can chose the license you want. So I think we could argue that if someone chose one of the licenses when file is moved to Commons then the transfer is okay too. Because the file have one of the valid licenses. Same if the license is cc-by-3.0,2.0,1.0 and the file is moved to Commons with 3.0 only. Perhaps you could suggest that too? If yes I will post an example when/if I find one.
On hr:Suradnik:MGA73/LicenseUpdate.js I have a script I use for files with GFDL. It should be easy to modify so it can add 2 links to NowCommons: [Mark as ok to delete] [Mark for retransfer] Or perhaps we do not need the first one because if it is ok then user could just delete the file. What do you think?
I do not think the community will agree on SD-ing such cases (one license omitted), since they did not agree on SD-ing PD files with NowCommons. Deletion through AfD might be possible.
I concur on your view that we do not need the "mark as ok to delete" link; if we could add a link to the first version of the file on Commons, it would be easier for anyone to check whether the transfer was fine.
  ネイ okay then I guess it is easier just to retransfer. If you make and edit like Special:Diff/85612323 it should give you 2 buttons. One to add review=yes and one to remove the NowCommons template if you plan to retransfer yourself. I'm not sure how to add a link to original version on Commons. But I wonder if we can get someone to help us unless the SD template is added. Usually admins do not delete files with a NowCommons unless there is a SD.
Files in c:Category:Files moved from ja.wikipedia to Commons requiring review is moved with Commonshelper so they should be okay to delete.
Thank you, will also refer to the category when checking.--ネイ会話2021年9月21日 (火) 06:45 (UTC)返信
MinamiFunabashiEki2004.jpg is closed so it is established that files with {{PD-self}} do not need a retransfer. For the remaining PD templates used with NowCommons:
  1. {{Cc-zero}} with NowCommons: None.
  2. {{PD-ineligible}} with NowCommons: Only one file left but it is in Category:FileImporter error, so we are done.
  3. {{PD-because}} with NowCommons: Two files left, both in Wikipedia:削除依頼/2005年国勢調査調査票の画像 since August but no one commented so far.
  4. {{PD-author}} with NowCommons: 24 files.
  5. {{Copyrighted free use}} with NowCommons: 26 files.
  6. {{PD-old-USJP}} with NowCommons: 85 files.
  7. {{PD-self}} with NowCommons: 1,842 files.
So we have established that most of the PD NowCommons files do not need a retransfer; will try it out with samples from the remaining three templates.
That is great. I deleted a few with PD-author because they were from en.wiki and later moved to Commons. I forgot to change the reason from 1-5 to 1-3 but I guess we do not need to restore and delete again just because of that.
We do not need such bureaucracy.--ネイ会話2021年10月5日 (火) 16:09 (UTC)返信

I checked and today there are

  1. {{PD-author}} 4 files
  2. {{Copyrighted free use}} 7 files
  3. {{PD-old-USJP}} 85 files
  4. {{PD-self}} 1,836 files

So I suggest to ignore the two first (meaning do not spend time trying to get permission to delete without a retransfer) because it only takes 45 seconds to retransfer the file.

Deleted several so the count is (starting from the top) 0, 5, 83, 1835 now. We already know PD-self does not require a retransfer; {{PD-old-USJP}} is the next one to tackle.--ネイ会話2021年10月7日 (木) 16:07 (UTC)返信

Hi! Today there are about 6,250 files with a NowCommons template.

About 3,850 are in Category:Bot deletion not possible meaning that SeitenBot2 failed to delete them (but added original upload log on Commons if possible).

There are also about 1,000 files in Category:Unidentified locator maps of municipalities in Japan and based on the files I checked so far most of those should be retransferred with FileImporter. So it makes no sense to ask other users to check those files.

There are about 1,700 files in Category:Wikipedia files on Wikimedia Commons for which a local copy has been requested to be kept. Many of those was moved to Commons with FileImporter so they could be okay to delete if Japanese Wikipedia decide to ignore the Keep Local template. But for now I suggest that we just ignore files in this category.

So I think that the best place for other users to help would be to take the files in Category:Bot deletion not possible from the top. But I do not know if any users will work on those without a SD-tag.

I recall there was a link in {{NowCommons}} for uploading old versions of a file to Commons but I could not seem to find it - just wonder if that tool had ceased to work? Onsen Portal Logo.png fulfills the criteria in ファイル1-5 except that its old version is not on Commons.--ネイ会話2021年9月19日 (日) 15:56 (UTC)返信

Hi! There is consensus now at Template‐ノート:Non-free use rationale to replace {{Information}} with {{Non-free use rationale}} for files using {{屋外美術}} or {{米国著作権継続}}. The changes needed are as follows.

  1. Switch from Template:Information to Template:Non-free use rationale.
  2. Add the following parameters:
    1. For files with {{屋外美術}}, add |policy=屋外美術; for files with {{米国著作権継続}}, add |policy=米国著作権継続. This adds a link to the corresponding policy.
    2. Add file usages to |article=, |article2=, and |article3=. I pulled the data as of 23rd Sep to 利用者:ネイ/Non-free usage. For now, we do not care whether the page is in article namespace; we will deal with that manually later.
  3. (Optional) If |permission= and |Permission= are blank, move the license template to |permission=.

A sample of the change: Special:Diff/85822251

Would you like to pick up this task? If not, then I will go to WP:BOTREQ.--ネイ会話2021年10月1日 (金) 05:21 (UTC)返信

I think it is a good idea to change the template (and add if it there are any files without an information template). I would prefer if you can find another bot user to fix it because I think it will be a little complicated for me to do it. If you can't find someone to do it perhaps I could give it a try.
Sure, no worries. I raised a request at WP:BOTREQ.--ネイ会話2021年10月2日 (土) 15:34 (UTC)返信
I see bot is running now. I do not understand this file Nakajo-Humiko8.jpg. Perhaps bot used old data? It is of course easy to clean up manually if only a few files.
Probably because it used old data. I reverted the change in that page.--ネイ会話2021年10月17日 (日) 16:24 (UTC)返信

@MGA73, allow me to ping you here as well. You might have a look tand concsent with previous adjustment, ie putting back the communication window open which looks to me very reasonable. We need windows/contact feature open and have a chance to contact the posters, ie to confirm portrait rights/logo licensing weaver and so on.
Does the link I pasted talk about what I imagine? Sorry, I am brain-numb with other topic at the moment, wish to grasp the big picture, maybe on Monday...
  Omotecho Thank you for your notice/reply. I agree that it should still be possible to contact the uploaders. Earlier the file could not be deleted unless the uploader was informed. The change of policy does not forbid to contact the original uploader it just makes it possible to delete a file without telling the uploader that the file was moved and deleted.

Hi! I moved the templates in Category:License migration to the parent category Category:ライセンス更新 as the latter is Japanese version of the former. Hello Omotecho ^- ^ and thank you for looking at the file.

What we need to know is where the statue is located because we need to know if there is c:Commons:Freedom of panorama (FOP). In Japan there is no FOP for statues. So we need to know who created the statue and/or how old it is.

If the statue is still copyrighted the license template should be {{Self}} and there should be a {{Non-free use rationale}}. If unused it should probably be deleted.

If the copyright is expired then the file can be moved to Commons. Usually it is enough to add the information directly to the file page in the relevant field in the {{information}} template. In author you can write "Photo: mariemon, statue: <who created the statue> (<death year if known>)". In date you can add: "Photo: 2010-04-16, Statue: 1975" (if made in 1975). But if from 1975 it is still copyrighted. --MGA73 2022720 () 10:40 (UTC)

OK, so your idea is that jawp editors will add data on Commons, not on jawp filepages?

If you'd ask ppl to add those info locally on jawp, as easy as to fill in fields on a wikitable or such, I imagine you might find more input, but of course you might break your back even more. /:

IMHO, inviting ppl to editing Commons, that's a bit a tall ambition; or involves at least one certain barrier. When I think of how-to documents and norms on Commons: some same to jawp but much diff, and being rolled back is not that enjoyable.

Anyhow, great outline what you are planning. Cheers, 0--Omotecho 2022720 () 11:14 (UTC)
Hello Omotecho. I suggest that the information is added on Japanese Wikipedia. If the file can be moved to Commons the information will automatically be transfered to Commons when the file is moved. But the information should be on :2894.JPG instead of on :2894.JPG. --MGA73 2022720 () 11:34 (UTC)
Great, I guess we are successful to fill data, and too bad no websites records who the person inscribed the dedication (must be on the wrong side of the statue) nor the sculptor who model the medallion after Ryoi's statue at a temple/image on Ryoi's page. Cheers, --Omotecho 2022721 () 16:55 (UTC)

HiOmotecho. Yes that sounds right. Files in Category:Bot deletion not possible - need extra review is allready moved to Commons and files in Category:Unidentified subjects in Japan - need review are not moved to Commons yet. Both categories should be checked.

Some files are not related to statues etc. There the problem is that the file may be copied from a website. For example :Akito.jpg. There I can't understand from Google Translate if the file was copied from the website to Wikipedia or or if it was also uploaded by the Wikipedia user to that website or if the website just have additional information. --MGA73 2022725 () 12:25 (UTC)

Good point about that particular pic: with that image, I would conclude on that it needs to be deleted ASAP for violation of privacy without any agreement on publishing it anywhere. In particular:
it says the subject's occupation is/was a (professional) ring wrestler;

it looks like a scene from that person's personal life;

poster supplied no location info, only a snowy night somewhere?

I doubt privacy violation, or any agreement has been granted and allow somebody to publish such a photo onwiki;

or the attached website is a scum, either hacked or a mean to lure users' interest. I did not test to contact the company/person/provider for the source of that site;

orno link to a UserName to contact/confirm on wikis to contact, might hit the same name but no evidence they are identical;

or its a very small/low grade pic, maybe spy taken on un-smart phone;

I am not discussing whether the scene itself has any value to wikis nor it describes well who that person is.

Friendly reminder

編集

Template:Reply to/MGA73, thank you for your endeavor and linking activities on jawp to Commons. I have read admins having issues around images exported to Commons: the left link is in ja, sorry, and have you informed that some might have copyright or problems involving laws? Just a friendly reminder we need to look at once more if:

  • Commons explains why local wikipedias need to agree and move their images to Commons;
  • then the identical image needs to be deleted from local ones;
  • and how can we make sure if the image poster is aware they need to choose/indicate either licensing cc-by-xx or CC4.0?

Please forgive me if I am too precausious. That is because I wish images taken in Japan be useful for global interest. Cheers, and take care, --Omotecho ps I added TOC at the page top, delete it pls if its against your wish.

Hi Omotecho. I'm not sure that I understand your question. So I'm sorry if my answer is not what you are looking for.
Commons only accept images that is free in both the US and in the country of origin. So that is why photos of new statues and buildings etc. can only be uploaded to Commons if the country allow freedom of panorama. The reason for that is the wmf:Resolution:Licensing_policy that states that all content on wiki-projects have to be is under a Free Content License. All wikis except Commons may develop an Exemption Doctrine Policy (EDP) so they can host non-free content (Fair use). Japanese Wikipedia allow photos of statues but Commons can't allow them.
There is no rule that says that files must be moved to Commons. But if they are moved to Commons then the files can be used by all wikis and it is much easier to add relevant information in different languages so other users can find out what the file illustrate.
There is also no rule that says that files must be deleted locally. But Japanese Wikipedia have decided per Wikipedia:即時削除の方針#ファイル1-5 that the files can be deleted.
It is required that all files have a valid source, author and license. Personally I think it is much easier to find out which files are checked if all the good files are moved to Commons and the local files are deleted. Also I hope it motivates users to upload files to Commons and to fix descriptions etc. on Commons if they are used to that files are on Commons.
I have not tried to upload files to Japanese Wikipedia but my guess is that there is text that ask the user to provide a license. If the upload help is not clear enough then perhaps it can be changed? If someone upload a file without a license then another user usually mark the file and inform the uploader about the missing license.

Move Freedom of Panorama images Commons -> jawp?

Hello, do you have any idea if Freedom of Panorama images on Commons better moved back to jawp, locations limited to inside Japan's territory? A list was posted on Wikipedia:利用案内/"How to" VillagePump, and explained as consisting of signboards, monuments.

Please find a list of image in question on Wikipedia:利用案内/"How to" VillagePump/ja, will you?

Hi! I agree that some of those photos may be a problem for Commons. Freedom of panorama does only apply for buildings.
There may be 2 things that could make the photos acceptable anyway. First is if Threshold of originality is not met because the work is too simple (seems in Japan reguirements are high). Second even if copyrighted the copyrighted part could be accepted if De minimis apply (if the copyrighted part is only a small part of the photo).
The monument in File:恋人峠 INFINIBELL.jpg is the main focus so DM would not apply. But to me it is just a bell in a circle so I'm not sure TOO is meet.
The plate in File:恋人峠 廉貞星宮殿 説明文.jpg is also in focus so DM does not apply. But I can't read the text so I do not know if the text is copyrightable.
Similar with File:恋人峠 廉貞星宮殿 説明文.jpg but if the plate is old it may be PD due to age.
@MGA73さん, thank you sorting out the problem. May I convey your idea, by saying by MGA73 to the 利用案内 board?
Wow, I see it's not simple copyright issue if we protect the rights of the original creator. DM is very subjective IMHO per cultural context, yes, ja communities have ppl either no idea of DM or very protective. Will expand my knowledge and experience, as you showed me a clear metrics. Hi Omotecho! You are welcome to translate my comment and copy to other discussion. I copied the text from the sign to Google Translate and it seems rather simple to me. It is short and mostly facts so I do not think it is copyrightable. But others may disagree.
@MGA73さん, appreciate your kind offer, and let me update you that the discussion on 利用案内 has a reply telling all those signboards are not usable on Commons.
I summed up the points, and will add a list on that page to sort out things.
delete from jawp
One example is shown for a deleted case on jawp: a monument on a public space.
  • #01, #03 & #04: similar cases with the one being deleted from jawp. I guess at least #03 & #04 are on a public land with land keepers.
TOO or not: "01, #04, #05, #07". Maybe jawp will delete them. Honestly, it is strange to me the poster replied said any tourist site signboards fall under the same criteria like a plate of poem. I don't see why a paragraph of utility holds a copyright, or do we need written agreement from the public entity which put those signboards at photogenic spots and so forth? They are on national roads.
Anyway, well, let's concentrate on which ones to keep on Commons. Here, I test myself and see how far I understood the points you taught me. A list below narrowed down questionable images.
  • #01: Not sure about the bell in a circle, I can't find its location on Google maps or other sites other than Commons.
  • #05: a drawing and several inserted images. Can we believe the original copyright holders are not claiming their rights, when they were contracted their works for the public entity/city office?
  • #06: it lists the name of neighbors who has decided to relocate a monk's statue, does it mean the inscription is copyrighted? Dates back to 1988, so maybe PD on Commons?
  • #07: How old something becomes PD on Commons? It reads the signboard dates from the late 1980s.
  • #08: we see small stone sculptures lined on the foreground, are they subject of TOO? They are buddhist image which you will donate at intersections to memorize some fatal traffic incident had happened, or folk believes to ward off evil spirits, and a message to invite those strangers with goodwills (and perhaps some goodies to share). Usually, you buy those at nearby temple, involves faith but still a commodity in my personal perception.
There are so many case-by-case to learn, I am amazed!

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── If #6 is just a list of names then I think it will not be copyrighted. As for#7 it is also facts so I would not delete it. files will be PD after 70 years if unknown or cooperative work and life + 70 years if author is known per c:Commons:Copyright_rules_by_territory/Japan#Durations.

The sign in #5 is probably copyrighted and so are the photos. You could argue that the photos on the sign are de minimis but there are many of them so the total area of copyrighted elements are big. On the other hand you could argue that the photos are so blurred that it is not really possible to see them. So again it will be up for discussion.

@MGA73さん, thank you so much for your insight. The discussion on the other page is almost concluded. While I have not offered to interview/confirm with the possible rights-holder, we will see Commons:RfD will be posted soon. I think we don't need those transcription anymore, and I commented them out. Cheers, and good luck with WAM !

Clean up of "Files uploaded by" categories

編集

Hi! In Special:PrefixIndex/Category:Files uploaded by there seems to be a few categories that are either blank or only consist of images that cannot be moved to Commons. Would you like to nominate some of them for SD?--ネイ会話2023年3月4日 (土) 09:43 (UTC)返信

Hi ネイ. I would love to. But some like Category:Files uploaded by Gnsin was rejected as a SD. I will check them all.
Perhaps Category:国土画像情報 can be deleted/depreciated?
Forgot to reply; it was done.--ネイ会話2023年3月21日 (火) 13:26 (UTC)返信
Great ネイ! About Category:Files uploaded by Gnsin I think you have to start a DR.
Started Wikipedia:削除依頼/特定の利用者がアップロードしたファイルのカテゴリ and will see how it goes. Thank you for notifying!--ネイ会話2023年3月21日 (火) 15:30 (UTC)返信

Category:

Hello - just wonder if you would be able to help fix the files in Category:機械的に読み取れるライセンスがないファイル. Most, if not all, are caused by the file description page having {{Non-free use rationale}} while the license template is outside of it. They often have |permission=下記を参照 (see below).--ネイ会話2023年3月21日 (火) 13:30 (UTC)返信

And also the files in Special:MIMESearch/image/x-bmp - reviewed the files and prepared them for move but I think Commons does not accept BMP files now. Perhaps they could be converted to PNG and then the local file can be deleted through an AfD.--ネイ会話2023年3月21日 (火) 14:28 (UTC)返信
Hi ネイ! Do you mean fix it like this: Special:Diff/94418410? And yes BMP is not allowed on Commons. So it has to be converted somehow. I will see if I can do something to bring along the file history.
Yes, the fix is correct. There are also cases where there are longer descriptions in |permission=, in which case we can move the license template into the parameter while keeping the description.
Thank you for your help!--ネイ会話2023年3月21日 (火) 15:21 (UTC)返信
BMP: I moved the first file (ファイル:Kamimuragakuenmae Station-underconstruction 20100222.bmp). I found out how NOT to do that. I had to move and delete/undelete waaaaay to many times. Next time I think it is better to upload png-version to jawiki and move to Commons later. I hope the result is okay so that file can be deleted on jawiki. Will move the two other files too.
The category: Okay I will fix the rest with the short version. Then we can see how many files are left in the category. It may be easier to fix manually but time will tell.
The bmp-files are now moved. You can nominate for deletion.
I have moved/fixed the files with the short text or no text. For the one with a longer text should it be like this Special:Diff/94420099?
Sorry overlooked it! Looks fine to me.--ネイ会話2023年3月26日 (日) 10:26 (UTC)返信
@ネイ yeah I thought so ;-) Anyway the bmp are ready to nominate for deletion and the rest of the files in the category have to be fixed manually.
Thank you! Fixed the rest of the files in the category. There are too many AfDs for media files ongoing, so I will postpone the BMP ones for a bit.
Another fix required is files in both Category:自由利用できないファイル and Category:自由利用できるファイル (per PSID 24596682 there are around 150). This is probably because the files are missing |dw=yes in their license templates.--ネイ会話2023年3月27日 (月) 03:47 (UTC)返信
@ネイ: It seems I can't fix the last files. Perhaps you could check? --MGA73会話2023年3月27日 (月) 14:26 (UTC)返信
It was because {{GJSTU-2.0}} ignored |dw=. Fixed it and the remaining files are no longer included in the free media category. Thank you for your help!--ネイ会話2023年3月27日 (月) 15:32 (UTC)返信

File:Azem Palace.JPG

編集

Not sure if I should ask you or ask on Commons - I was not able to move File:Azem Palace.JPG to Commons as FileImporter failed with an ArgumentCountError. The same file on enwiki (en:File:Azem Palace.JPG) cannot be moved either as it was blocked by SpamBlacklist even after I removed the related links.--ネイ会話2023年3月28日 (火) 00:42 (UTC)返信

Sakujo-note.jpg where one of the old versions is png while the rest are jpg.
I have the same problem. Only option is to delete the bad version(s) or to use CommonsHelper to transfer the files.
