アリソン・アトリー︵Alison Uttley, 1884年12月17日 - 1976年5月5日︶は、イギリスの童話作家、ファンタジー作家。本名はアリス・ジェーン (Alice Jane)。アリスンとも表示される。

田舎町ダービーシャーのクロムフォード生まれ[1]。田舎の自然を深く愛し、故郷の思い出を作品に生かした。異界の存在との交流を描いた感性に評価が高い[2]。

経歴[編集]


18歳までダービーシャーのクロムフォードの農園で過ごした。ダービーシャー、ベイクウェルのレディ・マナーズ・スクールの奨学生として進学、オーエンズカレッジ︵現在のマンチェスター大学︶でダービーシャー州奨学金により物理学[1]を専攻し、1906年開校以来2番目の女性の優等卒業生として卒業した。その後ケンブリッジ大学に進学し[1]、そこで出会った科学者のジェイムス・アトリー (James Uttley) と結婚した。しかし、第一次世界大戦によって健康を害していた夫は1930年に死去した。

息子を抱えたアリソンは生活の手段として、幼い頃を過ごしたダービーシャーの自然を題材にした物語を執筆することにし、1931年には自伝的作品﹃農場にくらして﹄ (The Life of a Country Child) を出版した。その後も、息子のために書いた﹁グレイラビット﹂シリーズ、1939年発表の﹃時の旅人﹄ (A Traveller in Time) など、100タイトルを超える物語を執筆した。日本語版の刊行はごく一部に留まっている。

代表作の﹃時の旅人﹄は、アトリーの少女時代の夢がもとになっており、故郷ダービーシャーを舞台に、スコットランド女王メアリ・スチュアートを助けようとする領主一族の屋敷と、現代の素朴で平和な農家の暮らしを行き来する少女を描いた[3]。タイムファンタジーのさきがけといわれる。
