New requests for permissions/Bot: Balyozbot. Tasks:
Import sitelinks, labels, descriptions from ku wikipedia pages which use the template w:ku:Template:Înterwîkî etîket û danasîn. (There are over 1800 articles that use this template waiting to be connected to Wikidata at the moment.)
Add sitelinks to kuwiktionary / kuwikipedia categories / create an item for the category if necessary. I have been doing this manually for quite some time using Quickstatements but since I need to get permission for the first task, I will be handling them using a bot as well.

Tool of the week
Cersei - is a tool designed for importing or scraping data from various third-party sources, using source-specific Python code. It can use a "headless browser" to scrape complicated websites that rely on eg JavaScript to navigate. It can therefore access data sources that can not be accessed via eg Mix'n'match. The data from sources can be updated regularly, either for everything, or just changed entries (if the source has a "recent changes" equivalent).
Wikidata:Zotero/Cita - is a Wikidata addon for Zotero that adds citations (i.e., what other items an item cites) metadata support to this open source reference management software, using cites work (P2860) information available from Wikidata, and enabling users to easily contribute missing data.
production manager (manager that is responsible for the administration of a feature film or television production; oversees production plans, controls resources, initiates production, ensures ongoing operations, monitors schedules and expenditures, and creates a detailed production schedule and budget)
Newest WikiProjects: WikiProject Städel Museum Wikidata Clean-Up - This WikiProject from the Städel Museum aims to actively participate in the Wikimedia community by maintaining and updating the quality of its data. This includes their collection of public domain art, which has been digitized and made freely available for public use. The project focuses on ensuring that the most current and high-quality data, including high-resolution images and improved metadata, are available on platforms like Wikimedia Commons and Wikidata.
Upcoming: The next Wikidata+Wikibase office hours will take place on Wednesday, 17:00 UTC, 17th January 2023 (18:00 Berlin time) in the Wikidata Telegram group. Hi Qwerfjkl! Looking at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2024 May 4#Natural history, I am currently reading consensus to keep the category. I see that you closed an earlier, related nomination—Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2024 April 11—for other members of the tree with consensus to delete the categories, and Fayenatic london (who supported deletion in both discussions) called for the previous discussion to be vacated if the result of the current discussion is keep. Thoughts? I think the best way forward is to close the current discussion as keep and restore the other categories, but I am open to other suggestions. HouseBlaster (talk · he/they) 19:52, 15 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
HouseBlaster, sorry for the delayed response. I'm not entirely convinced by the arguments opposing; I don't think they fully really address the nominator's claims. I think I would consider relisting for more discussion. (Though overall there's still probably stronger consensus for keeping.) This response is a bit hasty, so I'll try to look at it more later today. — Qwerfjkltalk 09:53, 17 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Reading this again, I have a few more thoughts: The arguments don't seem applicable to all of the categories; many of them have only a few members and so appear more OVERLAPCAT as the nom said. Some of the arguments are also pretty weak (e.g. that these categories are about history, which does not at all reflect their contents). — Qwerfjkltalk 20:40, 17 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Circling back after my you-know-what, it seems like Timrollpickering closed the discussion as NC. I still think that the categories in the other discussion should be restored if there was no consensus here.HouseBlaster (talk · he/they) 19:58, 23 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

I tried renominating google.bb and google.co.bb as they were on Category:RfD errors for a month, however it identified them as non-redirects, so I had to revert the edits so I could renominate. Any step for improving this thing? --MikutoHtalk! 00:57, 17 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
MikutoH, not sure what to do here - I think I would be beyond the scope of the script to recognise what the redirect is supposed to look like. It's not going to improve the situation if it just tags the redirect as it was normal, because then it would be double tagged. — Qwerfjkltalk 09:46, 17 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi, I'm new to this but I don't quite have the time to read through all the study pages. Can you help me put a table sortable by "name" "location" and "time" to a wikipedia page dedicated to missing people world wide? Latest tech news from the Wikimedia technical community. Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations are available.
Recent changes
People who attempt to add an external link in the visual editor will now receive immediate feedback if they attempt to link to a domain that a project has decided to block. Please see Edit check for more details. [1]
The dark mode beta feature is now available on category and help pages, as well as more special pages. There may be contrast issues. Please report bugs on the project talk page. [4]
Problems
Cloud Services tools were not available for 25 minutes last week. This was caused by a faulty hardware cable in the data center. [5]
Last week, styling updates were made to the Vector 2022 skin. This caused unforeseen issues with templates, hatnotes, and images. Changes to templates and hatnotes were reverted. Most issues with images were fixed. If you still see any, report them here. [6]
Changes later this week
The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 18 June. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 19 June. It will be on all wikis from 20 June (calendar). [7][8]
Starting June 18, the Reference Edit Check will be deployed to a new set of Wikipedias. This feature is intended to help newcomers and to assist edit-patrollers by inviting people who are adding new content to a Wikipedia article to add a citation when they do not do so themselves. During a test at 11 wikis, the number of citations added more than doubled when Reference Check was shown to people. Reference Check is community configurable. [9]
Mailing lists will be unavailable for roughly two hours on Tuesday 10:00–12:00 UTC. This is to enable migration to a new server and upgrade its software. [10]

While using the one-click close feature of CFDlister, the tool is randomly failing to add a CfDW entry to the queue. –LaundryPizza03 (dc̄) 13:21, 21 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
LaundryPizza03, any specific examples? Does it give an error message and fail, or fail silently? Is there anything in the console? Etc. — Qwerfjkltalk 15:37, 21 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
No, it just happens randomly, as far as I can tell. It closes the CfD with a success notice, but then an error message displays about being unable to load it into CfDW. If it happens again, I will tell you the exact message. –LaundryPizza03 (dc̄) 15:41, 21 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
LaundryPizza03, is it something like "The edit query returned an error. =(" or "The ajax request failed."? — Qwerfjkltalk 15:45, 21 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Yes, that it failed to do something, but I don't remember what it was. –LaundryPizza03 (dc̄) 15:48, 21 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
I'm afraid I cant do much without the full error message (actually, I'm not sure the script will provide proper error messages). — Qwerfjkltalk 16:00, 21 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Looking at the source code, I think it was either line 304 or line 309 that was triggered in this case, which was a "delete" closure. It is also possible that line 314 was improperly reached due to the CfD header containing a hidden comment. –LaundryPizza03 (dc̄) 03:23, 22 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
LaundryPizza03, oh, I think I see the problem. The nomination was for merging but you closed it as delete, so it needed manual handling. — Qwerfjkltalk 09:25, 22 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hello, glad to know you're my Wikipedia mentor!
Are you able to take a look at a first draft of my first article in my sandbox?
Thanks! --Gwgross (talk) 20:09, 21 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Gwgross, it looks good to me. The main thing you should focus on is finding reliable sources to demonstrate its notability - sources like the "New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission" reports are good for factual information, but not so much for determining notability. Per WP:NCORP, the sourcing requirements are particularly stringent for companies. — Qwerfjkltalk 10:34, 22 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
thanks, Qwerfjkl. I understand the sourcing requirements are stringent for companies. I believe Neville & Bagge is especially notable because it designed and built many NYC buildings that are now part of either a NYC Landmark District, or a Historical District on the National Register of Historic Places, or both. What better way to source those facts than with the Designation Reports from the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission or the National Archives Catalog? 68.129.242.114 (talk) 17:10, 22 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
68.129.242.114, for the purposes of notability, something more like [https://bklynbiblio.blogspot.com/2014/12/neville-bagge-and-netherlands-apartments.html this source (which is already present in the draft) is what you want (though that source is particular is unreliable). The New Yorker source is reliable, but I cant comment on how good it is in terms of coverage because it requires an account. The book references may qualify as reliable; I can't tell. In general, the subject is notable is it has 3 references that are reliable, independant of the subject, and have significant coverage (not just a passing mention). Good luck! — Qwerfjkltalk 17:24, 22 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the guidance. I moved the draft to the Mainspace this afternoon. Could you take one more look at it there, please? And what happens next? Gwgross (talk) 19:08, 22 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Gwgross, it will be reviewed by a New page patroller. I have nothing more to say on the article, except that, as I've said before, the main test for an article is whether it is notable, so to give it the biggest chance of passing new page patrol, I recommend finding reliable sources, as I've said before. — Qwerfjkltalk 20:22, 22 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Editor of the Week
Your ongoing efforts to improve the encyclopedia have not gone unnoticed: You have been selected as Editor of the Week in recognition of your great contributions! (courtesy of the Wikipedia Editor Retention Project)
I nominate Qwerfjkl to be Editor of the Week for his tireless efforts behind-the-scenes, particularly at WP:CFD. In addition to closing discussions, he is the developer of User:Qwerfjkl/scripts/CFDlister—the script which makes NACs (upon which CfD relies heavily). He also created User:Qwerfjkl/scripts/massCFD, which handles multi-nomination CfDs (unlike most discussion venues multi-nominations at CfD are usually productive!). He is the operator of User:Qwerfjkl (bot), which performs functions such as notifying contributors of CS1 errors and implementing PIQA (WP:PIQA). Finally, he is a mentor through the Growth Team, where he frequently assists new users in learning the ropes. Seconded by Hey man im josh

How do I make a new page? --EJT44 (talk) 21:00, 22 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
EJT44, Welcome! Creating a new article from scratch is extremely challenging, and new editors are strongly recommended to spend a few months learning how Wikipedia works, by making improvements to some of our existing seven million articles before trying it. When you do decide to have a go at a new article, you are highly encouraged to read WP:Your first article. If you haven't already also check out WP:TUTORIAL; it's a lot of fun! Happy editing! — Qwerfjkltalk 21:19, 22 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Latest tech news from the Wikimedia technical community. Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations are available.
Recent changes
Editors will notice that there have been some changes to the background color of text in the diff view, and the color of the byte-change numbers, last week. These changes are intended to make text more readable in both light mode and dark mode, and are part of a larger effort to increase accessibility. You can share your comments or questions on the project talkpage. [11]
The text colors that are used for visited-links, hovered-links, and active-links, were also slightly changed last week to improve their accessibility in both light mode and dark mode. [12]
Problems
You can copy permanent links to talk page comments by clicking on a comment's timestamp. This feature did not always work when the topic title was very long and the link was used as a wikitext link. This has been fixed. Thanks to Lofhi for submitting the bug. [13]
Changes later this week
The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 25 June. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 26 June. It will be on all wikis from 27 June (calendar). [14][15]
Starting 26 June, all talk pages messages' timestamps will become a link at English Wikipedia, making this feature available for you to use at all wikis. This link is a permanent link to the comment. It allows users to find the comment they were linked to, even if this comment has since been moved elsewhere. You can read more about this feature on Difforon Mediawiki.org. [16]
