Do we need articles on both food rescue and food banks?

[edit]

Food rescue and foodbanking seem to me to be identical concepts, or at least near enough to question if there should be two different articles. Perhaps we should merge the two. Food rescue being the concept and food banks being one of the implementations. --Bruce Hall (talk) 07:38, 23 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

agree--123.202.64.17 14:53, 18 April 2012 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 123.202.64.17 (talk)
There is also a page on Food Salvage. These all seem to be different terms for the same concept. --Bruce Hall (talk) 08:05, 23 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Food Banks and Food Rescue are not the same concept. However, "food salvage" probably should be merged with Food Rescue.--71.111.229.19 (talk) 16:35, 29 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I suggest that food salvage is merged into food rescue. Food rescues generally concentrate on perishable foods while food banks work with non-perishable ones (canned, dried). So food banks and food rescues are definitely different subjects, although related. NB, New Zealand. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 139.80.123.42 (talk) 03:27, 19 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Food Rescue and Food Banks are connected but not the same thing

[edit]

Hi. I understand that food banks are connected to food rescue but rescuing food is also connected to other topics. Rotten food cannot be distributed to humans but can still be useful and beneficial for things like composting to feed the soil and feeding to livestock. People are also using rotten food to convert into fuel. None of these examples have anything to do with food banks yet they are all connected to food rescuing just like food banks are. So I believe it deserves its own page. All pages can be connected with the [[ ]] symbols, though. Colenyj (talk)

Food Rescue can also be linked to Upcycling and Downcycling

[edit]

Food Rescue is not solely linked to food banks. If you read the Wiki articles on Upcycling and Downcycling you can see how rescuing food links to these concepts and has other destinations besides the food banks. Although, they are all related ideas and great ones at that. I think all these are related and should just have their pages linked through the 'see also' sections and mentioned within the articles linking with the [[ ]] symbols. Thanks for reading! Adding section titled "Greenhouse Gas Emissions"

[edit]

Hi, I'm a student enrolled in a class focusing on geographies of energy and sustainability. I chose to contribute to this article for my Wikipedia project in the class, and I think it could use a new section talking about greenhouse gas emissions from wasted food and how food rescue helps reduce those emissions. In its current state, greenhouse gasses from food waste are mentioned only in passing. I believe the article could use a new section focused on the relationship between greenhouse gasses and food rescue, which I would like to add between 'The food system' and 'Food reuse strategies' sections.
