Respiratory failure vs. Respiratory distress[edit]

Does anyone think Respiratory distress should redirect here (rather than to respiratory distress syndrome)? -- JVinocur 01:29, 27 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I thought that respiratory distress was just difficulty breathing ie dyspnoea and that respiratory failure is the specific 'respiration resulting in Po2 less than 8kPa' anyone clear up?

No, respiratory distress is a symptom of respiratory failure but may also be encountered in other conditions such as metabolic acidosis. JFW | T@lk 14:58, 9 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Causes[edit]

I removed the following list, because it attempts to be exhaustive while failing to do so. Perhaps a table with lots of references?

Any good sources that might help here? JFW | T@lk 14:58, 9 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject Medicine; UCF College of Medicine[edit]

Hello, I am a fourth-year medical student participating in a Wikiproject Medicine course at the UCF College of Medicine. The objective of this course is to edit, update, and expand a current article related to medicine. I have included a workplan of my intended changes below:

Background section: This section only has 1 source and has limited information. I hope to improve this section by adding quality sources and expanding the section's content. In particular, I hope to use this source:https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diseases/24835-respiratory-failure to add information regarding the major categories of respiratory failure: respiratory failure due to shock, perioperative respiratory failure, hypercapnic respiratory failure, and hypoxemic respiratory failure.

Cause: This section currently does not have a single reference/citation/source. I therefore hope to improve this section by adding some references.

Type 3: This section does not have any references/sources and is very limited without much information. I therefore plan to improve this section by adding a few sources and also expanding upon the text to provide additional information about Type 3 respiratory failure for readers.

NEW SECTIONS I PLAN TO WRITE FROM SCRATCH:

Symptoms and Signs: The Wiki page currently lacks sections on symptoms and signs of respiratory failure. I hope to address this deficit by adding information regarding clinical history, symptoms, and physical examination, and imaging findings (radiography, ultrasonography, pulse oximetry, capnometry) findings. I will base my content for this section on this source: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK526127/.

Prognosis: The Wiki page currently lacks information about prognostic indicators for patients with respiratory failure. I hope to write a section about this based on information from this source: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK526127/. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Courseaccount333 (talkcontribs) 23:20, 24 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
