Cleanup tag[edit]

This article is somewhat incomprehensible and non-encyclopedic, so I added a cleanup tag. --n-k 03:39, 1 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

History[edit]

I think that this day has long* been celebrated as International Vegan Day (although always on November 1st, annually) and only recently the nomenclature "World Vegan Day" emerged as "World Vegan Day" (also on 1 November).

What's worthy of note, I strongly believe, is that World Vegan Day ENDS World Vegetarian MONTH, a.k.a. (World) Vegetarian Awareness Month, which begins with World Vegetarian Day, October 1, then continues with October 2nd AS "World Farm (ed) Animals Day, aka the birthday of Mohandas K. Gandhi, then October 4th as the Feast Day of St. Francis of Assisi, Patron Saint of Animals, then October 15th or so as United Nations World Food Day - vegetarianism as an element in global human food security, then capped with World Vegan Day on November 1st (as the ultimate in 'real vegetarianism').
Some advocates have begun to urge the recognition of all of November as World Vegan Month, which would include the US Thanksgiving holiday.

MaynardClark (talk) 22:06, 28 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Given that the use of the term 'World Vegan Day' is about as widespread, perhaps now far more widespread (prevalent) than the earlier use of the term 'International Vegan Day' (note that my 'earlier comment' was from eight years ago, in 2010), this comment may be more of a historical note of interest. I will say anecdotally that some (well-known) vegans will 'fight' long-time friends over the nomenclature (perhaps for solidarity and 'united front' kinds of reasons). But that may not be encyclopedic commentary. MaynardClark (talk) 00:42, 15 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Present and Future History

How about more of a chronicle about the adoption of World Vegan Day and its correlation with other November 1st commemorations or celebrations: Cinnamon Day, All Saints' Day, also known as All Hallows' Day,[1] the Feast of All Saints,[2][3] the Feast of All Hallows,[4] the Solemnity of All Saints,[4] and Hallowmas,[4][5], etc., and perhaps a note about [[Christian vegetarianism}the vegetarian saints, or Christian saints who were vegetarians]]? • "benefits"[edit]

veganism is ultimately unhealthy if followed strictly. Not to kill people it requires supplements of all kinds.I know the lede does not need sources, but then such claims should not be there. 142.163.195.34 (talk) 15:24, 30 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Not correct. The only supplement required is Vitamin B12. And "strict" adherence to veganism does not exclude the use of Vitamin B12 or any other vegan dietary supplement. Well-planned vegan diets are regarded as appropriate for all stages of life, including infancy and pregnancy, as said by the American Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the Australian National Health and Medical Research Council, the British Dietetic Association, Dietitians of Canada, the New Zealand Ministry of Health, and the Italian Society of Human Nutrition. Cleanup / Too Many Photos[edit]

This article is extremely short, but has 4 photos all from the same event of the same person. There's a bunch of other cleanup needed on the page too - most of the sections on can probably be condensed and at least scrubbed of any specific celebrations from specific years (like the Adelaide celebration in 2009).
