Category link[edit]

I've removed the link to Category:Condiments from this template. Except in specific circumstances (e.g., stubs, cleanup templates), articles shouldn't be directly linked to categories via templates as it reduces the adaptability of articles. In this case, all the articles were directly linked to Category:Condiments with a null pipe, so that they all appeared jumbled up before the start of the alphabetical listing. Also, quite a few of the articles shouldn't have even been in the category, since they were already in subcats. Grutness...wha? 09:00, 28 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Condiments section[edit]

Pinging the template creator User:Northamerica1000 as I may have misunderstood the terminology in play here. What is the "Condiments" subsection attempting to define, when the whole template is one of condiments, and all the other sections are presumably also condiments? It is just a placeholder section that could (along with "Misc.") be split up into dips, sauces, preserves, spices, oils and whatever else is in there? --Lord Belbury (talk) 16:53, 13 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Lord Belbury: It is a listing of the condiments that don't fit neatly into one of the subsections in the template. When removing the "Condiments" title from the section (test diff), the template looks a bit disjointed, in my opinion. I prefer it to stay in place. @Northamerica1000: My first thought was to try to list what was there, but it made the column too wide. Do you think it would be worth breaking the section up into separate sections for dips, sauces, spices, etc, to aid navigation? There'll probably some unusual one-offs left over, but a lot of them look like they could be covered by adding a few more categories. --Lord Belbury (talk) 09:38, 16 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Lord Belbury: Go for it if you feel like it. I'm busy working on other matters for the time being. North America1000 09:46, 16 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, happy to, that wasn't meant to sound like a demand! I wanted to check that I wasn't going against some established and holy trinity of ketchup/mustard/vinegar before attempting it. I'll get on with it as a background edit over the next few days. --Lord Belbury (talk) 10:30, 16 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Job done. The subdivisions might not be the best ones, I just went with what occurred to me as I clicked through the list, but it's a start. --Lord Belbury (talk) 20:11, 4 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
