Ukhiya (Bengali: উখিয়া) is an upazilaofCox's Bazar District in the Division of Chittagong, Bangladesh.[2]

Ukhia is located at 21°17′00N 92°06′00E / 21.2833°N 92.1000°E / 21.2833; 92.1000. It has 37,940 households and a total area of 261.8 km2.

As of the 2011 Bangladesh census, Ukhia upazila had 37,940 households and a population of 207,379. 62,900 (30.33%) were under 10 years of age. Ukhia had an average literacy rate of 36.26%, compared to the national average of 51.8%, and a sex ratio of 983 females per 1000 males. 27,317 (13.17%) of the population lived in urban areas.[3] Ethnic population is 2,451 (1.18%), of which the Tanchangya were 2,257.[4]

As of the 2001 Bangladesh census, males constitute 51.45% of the population, and females 48.55%. This Upazila's eighteen up population is 51749. Ukhia has an average literacy rate of 16.8% (7+ years), and the national average of 32.4% literate.[5]

Ukhia Upazila is divided into five union parishads: Holdia Palong, Jalia Palong, Raja Palong, Ratna Palong, and Palong Khali. The union parishads are subdivided into 13 mauzas and 54 villages.[3]
