Welcome

[edit]

Welcome!

Hello, AJseagull1, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Again, welcome!

Names

[edit]

Yep, that's much better, though a couple of those names have already been mentioned. Also think sources; I know IP Freely is from The Simpsons, for example. CanadianCaesar Cæsar is turn’d to hear 06:06, 15 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hagrid

[edit]

Yes, it should probably be removed as well. It was late, and I didn't want to go whole hog on the article. Please, feel free to remove it as well, if you haven't already. Thanks for catching my oversight. :) - Arcayne (cast a spell) 17:17, 9 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

AfD nomination of Yavneh Day School

[edit]

I have nominated Yavneh Day School, an article you created, for deletion. I do not feel that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Yavneh Day School. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time. Botany Series

[edit]

Please don't add this. We already have a theme template on all the major pages. We don't need another one. --EncycloPetey (talk) 02:26, 1 April 2008 (UTC) PS - the last template formatted like yours was very poorly received at WP:PLANTS. --EncycloPetey (talk) 02:29, 1 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Apiologists

[edit]

Have replied on my and the article talk page. The problem, if you think about it, is not with this article or these "notable" people but what would happen if Wikipedia went down the road you propose? Far less responsible editors will have a field day. Setwisohi (talk) 22:20, 1 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think that is why it is important to have a line or 2 stating why the notable people are notable (especially if they don't have their own article). That way the wikipedia community can decide on a case by case basis. There isn't a consensus on wikipedia to blanket remove these people. Lots of lists include people who don't have their own page. For example: List of Harvard University people, List of people from Wyoming, List of biologists, List of chemists, etc. AJseagull1 (talk) 22:31, 1 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I will put some references on the page. to establish notability AJseagull1 (talk) 22:45, 1 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Notable Myrmecologists

Sure. No problem. I plan on doing their biographies later. --Wloveral (talk) 19:36, 8 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for File:SEAL schenectady.gif

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:SEAL schenectady.gif. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 22:08, 30 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Transgressive phenotype. Reference Question

[edit]

{{helpme}} When referencing the same source for the second time in a wikipedia article, how do I make it show the same reference number as the first time the article was referenced? Please feel free to answer the question here on my talk page. Thanks so much! AJseagull1 (talk) 06:58, 18 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You use a 'named reference'. Example;
Chzz was born in 1837, <ref name="MyBook">
"The book of Chzz", Aardvark Books, 2009.
</ref> in Footown.<ref name="MyBook"/>
Note that the second usage has a / (and no closing ref tag). This needs a reference section ({{reflist}}); please see user:chzz/demo/namedref to see the result of that.  Chzz  ►  07:00, 18 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Wow, that was fast. Excellent! Thanks Chzz! -AJseagull1 (talk) 07:09, 18 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Survey

Re: Reflist Error Message

[edit]

This help request has been answered. If you need more help, please place a new {{help me}} request on this page followed by your questions, or contact the responding user(s) directly on their user talk page.

I just edited the New way disambiguation page, and am getting an error:

Cite error: There are < ref > tags on this page, but the references will not show without a Reflist template or a < references/ > tag; see the help page.

I have Reflist on the page and can't figure out what the problem is. Also the last section "Towns" isn't showing up.

Please help. Cheers, AJseagull1 (talk) 21:20, 6 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I fixed it. You closed with /ref> when you needed </ref> --SPhilbrickT 21:33, 6 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks - AJseagull1 (talk) 21:39, 6 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I fixed the town problem. You had a leading space. That won't work. However, you have two redlinks on a dab page; I don't believe redlinks are allowed on Dab pages, although I'm not finding the precise wording I expected to find at Wikipedia:Disambiguation--SPhilbrickT 21:41, 6 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
<-Sorry to undo all your hard work, but I found the language in Wikipedia:Disambiguation:
Each bulleted entry should, in almost every case, have exactly one navigable (blue) link;...
In addition, references do not belong in dab pages.--SPhilbrickT 21:48, 6 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your help. Unless I am mistaken, The entry on red-linksin the Wikipedia:Manual of Style (disambiguation pages) allows the way I have it now:
"If the only pages that use the red link are disambiguation pages, do one of the following: Unlink the entry word but still keep a blue link in the description. Red links should not be the only link in a given entry; link also to an existing article, so that a reader (as opposed to a contributing editor) will have somewhere to navigate to for additional information. The linked article should contain some meaningful information about the term." AJseagull1 (talk) 21:57, 6 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Wikimedia Stories Project

[edit]

Aloha!

My name is Victor and I work with the Wikimedia Foundation, the non-profit organization that supports Wikipedia. We're chronicling the inspiring stories of the Wikipedia community around the world, including those from readers, editors, and donors. Stories are absolutely essential for any non-profit to persuade new people to support the cause, and we know the vast network of people who use Wikipedia have so much to share.

Until this year, Wikipedia has largely relied upon personal appeals from founder Jimmy Wales to drive our annual fundraising efforts. Now we seek to convey the incredible diversity of people who've come to rely upon Wikipedia every day.

I'd really like the opportunity to interview you to tell your story, with the possibility of using it in our materials, on our community websites, or as part of this year’s fundraiser to encourage others to support Wikipedia.

I'm hoping you will elaborate on your story with me, either over the phone, by Skype, by facebook, by email, or any means you like. Please let me know if you're inclined to take part in the Wikipedia Stories Project and we'll set up a good time to discuss further.

Thank you,

Victor Grigas

Hi! I'm serving as the wikipedian-in-residence at the Smithsonian Institution Archives until June! One of my goals as resident, is to work with Wikipedians and staff to improve content on Wikipedia about people who have collections held in the Archives - most of these are scientists who held roles within the Smithsonian and/or federal government. I thought you might like to participate since you are interested in the sciences! Sign up to participate here and dive into articles needing expansion and creation on our to-do list. Feel free to make a request for images or materials at the request page, and of course, if you share your successes at the outcomes page you will receive the SIA barnstar! Thanks for your interest, and I look forward to your participation! Sarah (talk) 18:24, 16 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

File:JohnPayneTodd.jpg listed for deletion

[edit]

A file that you uploaded or altered, File:JohnPayneTodd.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Files for deletion. Please see the discussion to see why this is (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Cher Lloyd, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Romany (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Medfordseal.gif

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Medfordseal.gif. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.

ATTENTION: This is an automated, bot-generated message. This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 01:05, 16 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
