Are you free on Sunday? Join us for a special Wikimedia DC WikiSalon!

Wikimedia DC invites you to join us for a special WikiSalon at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Library's Digital Commons Center. We will gather at 3 PM on Sunday, October 13, 2013 to discuss an important topic: what can Wikipedia and the DC area do to help each other? We hope to hear your thoughts and suggestions; if you have an idea you would like to pursue, please let us know and we will help!

Following the WikiSalon, we will be having dinner at a nearby restaurant, Ella's Wood Fired Pizza.

If you're interested in attending, please sign up at the event page. We look forward to seeing you there! Kirill [talk] 02:13, 8 October 2013 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of Ambrose Channel pilot cable

The article Ambrose Channel pilot cable you nominated as a good article has been placed on hold . The article is close to meeting the good article criteria, but there are some minor changes or clarifications needed to be addressed. If these are fixed within 7 days, the article will pass, otherwise it will fail. See Talk:Ambrose Channel pilot cable for things which need to be addressed. Message delivered by GA bot, on behalf of J. Johnson -- J. Johnson (talk) 21:28, 10 August 2013 (UTC)

Andrew, are you still working on this? The hold is not indefinite, and if the necessary changes cannot be done fairly quickly then it is questionable whether they are minor. So this should be wrapped up one way or the other fairly soon. ~ J. Johnson (JJ) (talk) 22:01, 20 August 2013 (UTC)

Hello? Please let me know immediately if we can wrap this up in a day or two. Otherwise I will proceed with a fail. ~ J. Johnson (JJ) (talk) 18:56, 24 August 2013 (UTC)

I am getting back on my feet after my office flooded. Fortunately I maintain online backups of all my files, so I am currently downloading the research I have previously done on the cable and will catch up on the the GA recommendations. Andrew327 12:39, 26 August 2013 (UTC)
Ooh, ouch. Sorry to hear about that. I see you're whipping up a storm (no connection with the flooding??) on the article — go boy, go!! It looks like you're shaping it up pretty good. If you have any problems with the citations go ahead and leave them for me to fix. I'll wait for the edit lock to go away. ~ J. Johnson (JJ) (talk) 21:17, 26 August 2013 (UTC)

Congratulations, it's a pass. Not perfect, but I think you can be pleased with the result. And I can feel confident no one will complain I have passed junk! It would be interesting to know the rest of the story, but that will take some research. Perhaps this article will prompt someone to find out. ~ J. Johnson (JJ) (talk) 22:26, 24 September 2013 (UTC)

Thank you! I filed a Freedom of Information Act request with the Navy for more information, so sometime next year I might have a better picture of the cable's history. I really appreciate your help. Andrew327 19:39, 18 October 2013 (UTC)

Robotics assessments using assessment tool

Hi

Unfortunately the Robotics project does not use C class on articles. I have had to spend some time going through our new C class articles to correct them, and noticed a few of them were you whilst using this tool.

Would you mind not assessing Robotics articles as C class, thanks. Chaosdruid (talk) 19:59, 15 September 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for the heads up, I had no idea that the Wikiproject didn't use C class. Any idea why that is the case? Andrew327 19:39, 18 October 2013 (UTC)

jblas

Hi, I've added several citations to papers and projects which use jblas. Could you take a look at it and see if that clears up lack of citation and notability issues. If not could you provide feed back as to why not? Thanks!

Pabeles (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 01:36, 26 September 2013 (UTC)

Thank you for contacting me. The problem with the article is that most of its sources do not outright say "JBLAS is a notable software package". Andrew327 19:39, 18 October 2013 (UTC)

Running Home (book)

Is it notable? It have only one review.--Mishae (talk) 17:30, 26 September 2013 (UTC)

I recommend trying to find at very least two sources for anything that you want to put on Wikipedia. Andrew327 19:39, 18 October 2013 (UTC)

Picture Perfect

Can u tell me what is your problem with this song?! and remember i am the one who control Sevendust page and their stuff including singles, albums and etc. You can find it out by checking my contribution.--T.o.a.b (talk)11:34 pm, 01 october 2013 (UTC)

I have no problem with the song, it's just that it hasn't received enough coverage from reliable sources to justify its own article. There was a discussion and the consensus of editors was to make the song's article into a redirect. `Andrew327
And remember that you do not "control" any article on Wikipedia. Please see the policy statement at WP:OWN. Andrew327 19:39, 18 October 2013 (UTC)

Translation of some articles

Could you help me to translate some articles for me, please ? I need somebody to do it. You can write me a message on my discussion page.

Unfortunately I do not speak French, so I cannot help you translate those articles. Best of luck, though, and let me know if they get translated. I'd be interested in reading them. Andrew327 19:39, 18 October 2013 (UTC)

Alset page

Hi Andrew,

I have added category to article. The company works in automotive industry. And adding links to article from relevant pages on Wikipedia. After this, will the orphan label be removed? Thanks :)Can.kilic1981 (talk) 14:18, 7 October 2013 (UTC)

Hi again,

I have added references and categories to article. Best Can.kilic1981 (talk) 14:28, 7 October 2013 (UTC)

Thank you for making those edits. The article is off to a good start. Andrew327 14:32, 7 October 2013 (UTC)

Thank you very much for your feedback. I will keep the content updated as more information is available on internet. BestCan.kilic1981 (talk) 14:35, 7 October 2013 (UTC)

You're quite welcome, I hope you stick around and continue editing Wikipedia. I assure you that it is worth your time. Andrew327 19:39, 18 October 2013 (UTC)

Huggle 3

Hey Andrewman327! I am Petrb, one of core developers of Huggle, the antivandalism tool, which you are beta testing (according to https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Huggle/Members#Beta_testers). I am happy to announce that Huggle 3 is ready for some testing. You can read more about it at WP:Huggle/Huggle3_Beta. Please keep in mind that this is a development version and it is not ready for regular use. That means you must:

If you find any problem with a feature that is supposed to work perfectly, please let us know. Some features are not ready yet, it is listed in known problems on Huggle3 beta page, you don't need to report these - we know it! So, that's it. Have fun testing and please let us know about any problems, either using bugzilla @ http://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/or#huggle connect. Please respond to my talk page, I am not going to watch your talk page. Thank you Petrb (talk) 10:56, 14 November 2013 (UTC)

Huggle 3 beta is out - and we need more feedback!

Hey Andrewman327, how are you? I am Petrb, one of huggle developers, and you are currently subscribed as a beta tester of huggle on meta (meta:Huggle/Members. You may not have noticed, but this week I released first beta precompiled installers for ubuntu and microsoft windows! Wikipedia:Huggle/Huggle3_Beta has all the links you need. So if you can, please download it, test it and report all bugs that is really what we need now. Don't forgot that as it's just a beta it's unstable and there are some known issues. Be carefull! Thank you for helping us with huggle Petrb (talk) 16:17, 29 November 2013 (UTC)

Request for advice on a request for a comment

Andrewman327, I took a look at Wikipedia:Feedback request service from the bottom of the religion and philosophy section and up and your account was the first I found which was both still active but didn't seem to already be involved with another RfC.
Don't worry, I'm not requesting much as I didn't discuss you specifically with the other party yet. What I wanted to ask - if you have the time - is how we can better publicize the RfC and get more feedback. The RfC is about including a person on a list of adherents to a religious movement and it can be found at Talk:Quranism#RfC:_Should_Chiragh_Ali_be_removed_from_the_list_of_advocates_of_Quranism.3F.
Now, I checked Wikipedia:Requests_for_comment#Publicizing_an_RfC and I'm not really sure what to make of it. Village Pump seems like it can't provide any help, because this isn't about proposing new policies or existing changing ones; it's about article content, and none of the Village Pump forums seem specifically geared for that. The noticeboards might not be appropriate because while there were allegations of some POV pushing and OR, we obviously don't agree on who is responsible for that so I don't know how to fairly list the RfC on those noticeboards. I went to a WikiProject on Islam but those all seem defunct.
Based on your experience with RfCs, can you recommend to us more efficient ways of publicizing it so that we can garner more than three comments? MezzoMezzo (talk) 06:17, 24 December 2013 (UTC)

    Justin Bieber RfC: second survey

Hi Andrew327, thank you for your contribution to the RfC on Justin Bieber's behaviour and legal issues. Some users have posted that the RfC is currently a mess, and that we need to be very explicit in what we agree to include and what we don't. As such, I have created a second survey, which cuts the content into points. Could you take the time to post your opinion on each point, whether you think it should be included or not, or summarized, or changed. It will be a bit tedious but we need your detailed input to move forward. Thanks again. starship.paint (talk | ctrb) 05:20, 15 February 2014 (UTC)

Hello Andrew327, sorry to bother you again about Bieber. Unfortunately, only 5 of the 16 editors who posted their opinion in the General survey part of Bieber's RfC posted again in the point-by-point survey. Progress simply isn't made - could you help to post in the responses to above points subsection to move it forward? Thank you very much. starship.paint (talk | ctrb) 08:22, 4 March 2014 (UTC)

An exciting month of wiki events!

    Hello there,

I am pleased to say that April will be a very exciting month for Wikipedia in Washington, DC. We have a lot of different events coming up, so you will have a lot to choose from.

First, a reminder that our second annual Women in the Arts Edit-a-Thon will take place on Sunday, March 30 at the National Museum of Women in the Arts.

Coming up in April, we have our first-ever Open Government WikiHack with the Sunlight Foundation on April 5–6! We are working together to use open government data to improve the Wikimedia projects, and we would love your help. All are welcome, regardless of coding or editing experience. We will also be having a happy hour the day before, with refreshments courtesy of the Sunlight Foundation.

On Friday, April 11 we are having our first edit-a-thon ever with the Library of Congress. The Africa Collection Edit-a-Thon will focus on the Library's African and Middle East Reading Room. It'll be early in the morning, but it's especially worth it if you're interested in improving Wikipedia's coverage of African topics.

The following day, we are having our second annual Wiki Loves Capitol Hill training. We will discuss policy issues relevant to Wikimedia and plan for our day of outreach to Congressional staffers that will take place during the following week.

There are other meetups in the works, so be sure to check our meetup page with the latest. I hope to see you at some of these events!

    All the best,
    James Hare

    QUESTION about Redirects

Andrew, I am relatively new at WP. I have just written an article on John Dabney Terrell, Sr., but it is not quite complete yet. There's still more work and improvements to be made on it. I want to know, however, HOW does one go about adding a redirect to the page if someone writes in his search engine a shortened form of the name, such as John D. Terrell, or John Terrell, or Jno. Terrell? If you can assist me in this matter, I will be greatly appreciative of your efforts.Davidbena (talk) 08:31, 31 March 2014 (UTC)

I'm not Andrewman, but the way of linking ist quite simple: [[((target article))|((linked word in your article))]]. The linked word in your article may be a shortened form of the full name. But you can also link "his father" to the name of the father. If people had many first names, possibly the lemma (title) of the article does not contain the real full name. If you link to an object that exists in various places, you ought to show the readers, if you have linked to that special object, e.g. Lincoln Cathedral or to the general term cathedral.--Ulamm (talk) 09:08, 31 March 2014 (UTC)

We need your help testing latest huggle

    Hello,

I am sending you this message because you listed yourself on meta:Huggle/Members as a beta tester. We desperately need attention of testers, because since we resolved all release blockers, we are ready to release first official version of huggle 3! Before that happens, it would be nice if you could test it so that we can make sure there are no issues with it. You can download it packaged for your operating system (see Wikipedia:Huggle/Huggle3_Beta) or you can of course build it yourself, see https://github.com/huggle/huggle3-qt-lx for that. Don't forget to use always latest version, there is no auto-update message for beta versions!

Should you find any issue, please report it to wikimedia bugzilla, that is a central place for huggle bugs, where we look at them. That is i mportant, if you find a bug and won't report it, we can't fix it. Thank you for your work on this, if you have any questions, please send me a message on my talk page, I won't be looking for responses here. Thanks, Petrb (talk) 15:08, 10 April 2014 (UTC)

    ACC

Andrewman327, thank you for interest in the account creation process. I have verified your Identification [1] and I have approved your request, welcome to the team. You may now access the interface here. Before you do so, please read the account creation guide and our username policy thoroughly to familiarize yourself with the process. You should also join us on IRC #wikipedia-en-accounts connect where a bot informs us when new account requests come in and to get any advice on requests as well as the mailing list. Please note that we have implemented a policy of zero tolerance on mishandled requests, and that failure to assess correctly will result in suspension. I would like to emphasize that it is not a race to complete a request, and each one should be handled diligently and thoroughly. Currently you are allowed to create up to six accounts per day, although you won't be able to create an account with a similar name to that of another user; these requests are marked "Account Creator Needed" by the bot and "Flagged user needed" on the interface. However, if you reach the limit frequently, you can request the account creator permission at WP:PERM/ACC. Please keep in mind that the ACC tool is a powerful program, and misuse will result in your access being suspended by a tool administrator. Don't hesitate to get in touch with me if you have any questions. Thank you for participating in the account creation process. Again welcome! Mlpearc (open channel) 02:17, 8 June 2014 (UTC)

The Wikipedia Library: New Account Coordinators Needed

In order to help with those signups, distribute access codes, and manage accounts we'll need 2-3 more Account Coordinators.

It takes about an hour to get up and running and then only takes a couple hours per week, flexible depending upon your schedule and routine. If you're interested in helping out, please drop a note in the next week at my talk page or shoot me an email at: jorlowitz@gmail.com. Thanks and cheers, Jake Ocaasi via MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 23:41, 20 June 2014 (UTC)

Someone suggested at the Village Pump that I boldly create Wikipedia:Extant Organizations/Noticeboard, a noticeboard to discuss articles about organizations that may be subject to non-neutral editing. Basically it's the corporate version of BLPN, where both adverts and attack pages can be brought to the community for broader scrutiny. Except, obviously this board does not relate to a specific policy like BLPN does, except NPOV, V, etc. (though it could refer to this essay I wrote or something). I noticed you participated in the prior village pump discussion that led to consensus for Template:COI editnotice, which is now widely used. Although this noticeboard is not COI-related, I thought you might have an interest in this as well, in whether the noticeboard should be kept and/or in participating in it generally. If you would like to sign up for the picnic, you can do so here. When signing up, say what you’re going to bring!

July will also feature the second annual Great American Wiknic in Frederick, Maryland. This year’s Frederick picnic will take place on Sunday, July 6 at Baker Park. Sign up here for the Frederick picnic.

What else is going on in July? We have the American Chemical Society Edit-a-Thon on Saturday, July 12, dedicated to notable chemists, and our monthly WikiSalon on Wednesday, July 16.

It would be of a great help if you could download it (if you have windows, all you need to do is getting http://tools.wmflabs.org/huggle/files/huggle3.1.0beta.exe and putting it to a folder where you have installed huggle) and test it. You can always get a help with making it @ #huggle connect!

    Major changes:

In case you found a bug, please report it to bugzilla: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/buglist.cgi?product=Huggle&list_id=147663 thank you! Petrb (talk) 10:06, 30 July 2014 (UTC)

Quoted material in Scientology as a Business article is irrelevant

After reviewing my own objections further, I realized my key objection this quote was really missed - the quotation is not about Scientology. It contains no information about Scientology. It only makes a cultural reference to Scientology that is based on internet-propagated mythology.

The quotation itself contains deeply flawed logic, but the mere fact that it is not about Scientology - even though the source article is about Scientology - should alone be sufficient grounds to remove it.

I would be willing to write an alternative, correctly researched passage the presents true information about Scientology services and their costs, if you feel that removing this passage would leave a hole. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vantorrance (talkcontribs) 19:18, 27 August 2014 (UTC)

Wikimedia DC invites revolutionaries, free thinkers, and other sundry editors to a DC WikiSalon

The WikiSalon is a special meetup usually held during the first and third full weeks of every month, from 7 PM to 9 PM. It's an informal gathering of Wikimedia enthusiasts, who come together to discuss Wikimedia wikis and collaboratively edit. There's no set agenda, and guests are welcome to recommend articles for the group to edit or edit on their own.

If you're coming by Metro, the closest station is Dupont Circle (on the Red Line). If you're driving, a lot of parking opens up downtown after 6:30 PM, so finding a parking space (even a free one) should be easy. Once you've found the building, go to Cove on the second floor. We will be in the conference room.

When: Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM

Where: The Cove, Dupont Circle, 1730 Connecticut Avenue NW, 2nd floor, 20009, DC

I have the article in use at the moment. Would you mind waiting to edit it until I take down the flag? Andrew327 17:55, 12 October 2014 (UTC)

I was actually editing it before you began to do so. I should have put an {{in use}} tag on the article myself but didn't. As a result of two people editing at the same time, there is now an error on the page. The final section of the episodes is now being displayed after the external links but I cannot figure out why. Maybe you can. Mike Hayes (talk) 18:18, 12 October 2014 (UTC)

    Proposed deletion of Globophobia

The article Globophobia has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

The article doesn't cite any reliable sources, and there is no evidence that this is an actual medical term.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. This message was delivered via the Mass Messagetothe Book & Bytes recipient list.

Hello Andrewman327. This message is part of a mass mailing to people who appear active in reviewing articles for creation submissions. First of all, thank you for taking part in this important work! I'm sorry this message is a form letter – it really was the only way I could think of to covey the issue economically. Of course, this also means that I have not looked to see whether the matter is applicable to you in particular.

The issue is in rather large numbers of copyright violations ("copyvios") making their way through AfC reviews without being detected (even when easy to check, and even when hallmarks of copyvios in the text that should have invited a check, were glaring). A second issue is the correct method of dealing with them when discovered.

If you don't do so already, I'd like to ask for your to help with this problem by taking on the practice of performing a copyvio check as the first step in any AfC review. The most basic method is to simply copy a unique but small portion of text from the draft body and run it through a search engine in quotation marks. Trying this from two different paragraphs is recommended. (If you have any question about whether the text was copied from the draft, rather than the other way around (a "backwards copyvio"), the Wayback Machine is very useful for sussing that out.)

If you do find a copyright violation, please do not decline the draft on that basis. Copyright violations need to be dealt with immediately as they may harm those whose content is being used and expose Wikipedia to potential legal liability. If the draft is substantially a copyvio, and there's no non-infringing version to revert to, please mark the page for speedy deletion right away using {{db-g12|url=URL of source}}. If there is an assertion of permission, please replace the draft article's content with {{subst:copyvio|url=URL of source}}.

Some of the more obvious indicia of a copyvio are use of the first person ("we/our/us..."), phrases like "this site", or apparent artifacts of content written for somewhere else ("top", "go to top", "next page", "click here", use of smartquotes, etc.); inappropriate tone of voice, such as an overly informal tone or a very slanted marketing voice with weasel words; including intellectual property symbols (™,®); and blocks of text being added all at once in a finished form with no misspellings or other errors.

I hope this message finds you well and thanks again you for your efforts in this area. Best regards--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 02:20, 18 November 2014 (UTC).

Nomination of Ron Tebo for deletion

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Ron Tebo is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ron Tebo until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. JDDJS (talk) 21:39, 15 December 2014 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Ron Tebo

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Ron Tebo requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nominationbyvisiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Huggle message

Hey Andrewman327! You are receiving this message because you are subscribed at https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Huggle/Members#Beta_testers

I have recently launched a new downloads for beta testers that contains nightly builds of huggle, eg. versions that are built every day from our master branch and contains latest huggle. These builds are currently provided only for Windows and Ubuntu. You can find them here: http://huggle.wmflabs.org/builds/

Please keep in mind that these don't have any automatic updates and if you download and start using nightly build, you will need to update it yourself! So don't get yourself to running old version, it's possible to install both stable and nightly huggle, which is what I suggest.

Keep the bug reports coming to phabricator: https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/maniphest/task/create/?projects=Huggle Many thanks! Petrb (talk) 09:54, 28 January 2015 (UTC)

Andrew - I am concerned about your repeat gutting of the uBiome page. I looked at the history, and most of your edits are removing content. It's not going to make the article better to cut out well cited content. I know you have good intentions, but I think adding the controversy as you see it to the content instead of cutting it out is the most constructive thing here. I revered your rollback, and if you could expand on that version it would be appreciated. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Knightrob (talkcontribs) 00:39, 20 March 2015 (UTC)

    deOrphaning script

Hello everyone! I was just working on responding to a couple bug reports for a script that I worked up as part of a request from this project, and I noticed that only a couple people (who weren't even on this mailing list) are actually using the script. A little history on the script: In March of 2014, Jim Cartar came to my user talk page and said he needed some help in acquiring a script for a backlog drive that he was working on that could keep track of and score deOrphanings for a scored backlog drive. I took that request to the project's talk page (BackLog Drive "DO" (De-Orphaning) script proposal) and there was near unanimous support for this. I thought about the proposal and decided the best way to do it was to build a new script (which is still no where near as comprehensive as Manishearth's OrphanTabs) and build into it a mechanism that will make BLD scoring easy.

What I'm wondering at this point is, since there appears to be only two people using the script, should I continue to develop this script with a goal of using it for scoring BLDs or just debug the existing script and leave it at that. Thanks for any replies or comments.

If you wish to opt-out of future mailings, please remove yourself from the mailing list or alternatively to opt-out of all massmessage mailings, you may add Category:Opted-out of message delivery to your user talk page.

undoing a few of your edits

You may see me undoing a few of your edits done with AWB. The problem isn't your changes but that a bot that went through just before you that created problems that I need to revert. Sometimes I can just undo the bots changes but sometimes your changes involve similar parts of the article so I have to rollback the lot. I will try to manually reinstate your changes but my apologies if I miss something. Kerry (talk) 23:19, 2 November 2015 (UTC)

No worries, I was just doing cleanup, I didn't make any groundbreaking edits, so no worries if something isn't restored. Andrew327 19:33, 4 November 2015 (UTC)

    Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. WeRateDogs

    HiUser:Andrewman327,

Since you were the one to place the notability tag on WeRateDogs, I'm inviting you to take a second look at the article and its references. When it was first created (by a brand-new user), I thought it was just another advert/promo piece, but turns out this Twitter account has received significant media coverage, both because of its popularity and the Twitter copyright and suspension issues it has raised: Washington Post, Fox News, UK Daily Mail, Vice, etc. I've expanded the article a bit and added references, but don't want to remove the notability tag without checking in with you first. What do you think? ABF99 (talk) 20:52, 12 September 2016 (UTC)

I agree with you. Notability tag removed. Andrew327 12:03, 27 September 2016 (UTC)

    Proposed deletion of Jean-Luc Vaillant

The article Jean-Luc Vaillant has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

no indication of notability outside of LinkedIn

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Our quarterly goal is to add filters to the Recent Changes page, that show ORES good-faith and damaging tests and filters around new users. The work on this is proceeding mostly as planned. We hope it shall be available as a Beta feature (only on wikis where ORES is available as a Beta feature) before the end of the quarter.

This information will be helpful in discussions recently begun as part of the editing team's Annual Plan process. As the editing team investigates its priorities for next fiscal year (which begins in July), many ideas for improvements have been suggested, including projects to research the future of wiki discussions and to fix Flow's shortcomings.

The fourth fiscal quarter began the first of this month, and Collaboration Team has begun work on our new quarterly goals. In the coming months, we'll be working to release the New Filters for Edit Review beta on all wikis and then to improve the beta as much as possible based on user feedback. On that score, we're planning a round of user interviews on the new tools in May to get detailed information about usability and usefulness. If you've tried the new features and have thoughts, please share them with us in any language.

Our other focus right now is to look at what changes will be needed to spread the new filtering interface to other review pages, especially Watchlist. We're also exploring how to incorporate the tools we didn't include in the new interface in this round, like the Tag Filters, time-frame selector and Namespace filter.

The team is currently working on three main goals, which we expect to complete this summer or in September:

    1. Graduate New Filters for Edit Review core features out of beta:
      • The core New Filters features slated to become standard parts of Recent Changes are the ones that have been out in beta for a while and fully road-tested by the community.
      • These include the new filtering interface, the machine-learning filter groups “User Intent Predictions” and “Quality Predictions,” the highlighting tools, the ability to save your filter settings for later use, and the new filter groups: “Watchlisted pages,” “Last revision” and "User registration and experience."
      • There’s a list of “blocker” tasks we need to complete before these features are ready to graduate out of beta.
      • We expect to release those features by default in September. A more precise message will be sent to communities. If you have questions about it, you can write a message on Mediawiki.org, in any language.
    2. Extend the New Filters to Watchlist: The Watchlists of very active editors can include thousands of pages. To help these busy folks keep up with their work, we’re adding the New Filters UX and tools to Watchlist. The Watchlist and Recent Changes pages are similar, but there is some work involved in adapting the tools to their new setting. That work should be ready some time in late summer or early fall. Stay tuned for an announcement!
    3. Continuing work on “Integrated Filters”:
      • While the New Filters for Edit Review beta brought probably 70% of the old-style Recent Changes features into the new user interface, it left some behind—like the Tag and Namespace filters and the controls for the number of days searched and number of results presented. As the name is meant to suggest, “Integrated filters” integrates those old-style tools into the new UI.
      • It also adds some new tools users have asked for, such as:
        • Live updates” which provides a near real-time automatic refresh of the Recent Changes page.
        • Category filters, which enable users to search by category.
        • User filters, which let you define searches that include or exclude edits by particular users.
      • We will put the community-defined related links that cluster at the top of most Recent Changes pages into a collapsible panel, in order to clarify the Recent Changes page.

We should note that it’s not certain these last two additions will make the cut for inclusion this year. If you want a make the case for either one, we want to hear from you.

Did you really mean to put an WP:A1 speedy deletion tag on Pind mein brahmand? A1 means there is not enough context in the article to understand what it is about. The article very clearly says it is a book, who wrote it and what it is based on. There was also already a PROD on the article that explained it was a book. What didn't you understand? ~ GB fan 15:49, 25 July 2017 (UTC)

    New Page Reviewer Flag

    Hi, Andrewman327.
I've noticed that you are an AfC reviewer but don't yet have the New Page Reviewer flag. Would you please consider heading over to PERM and requesting it? (check the flag requirements HERE)
As part of a larger plan to increase cooperation between New Page Patrol and Articles for creation, we are trying to get as many of the active AfC reviewers as possible under the NPR user flag (per this discussion). Unlike the AfC request list, the NPR flag carries no obligation to review new articles, so I'm not asking you to help out at New Page Patrol if you don't want to, just to request the flag.
Of course, if it is something you would be interested in, you can have a look at the NPP tutorial. Please mention that you are an active AfC reviewer in your application.

Please participate to the talk pages consultation

    Hello

Our team at the Wikimedia Foundation is working on a project to improve the ease-of-use and productivity of wiki talk pages. As a Teahouse host, I can imagine you’ve run into challenges explaining talk pages to first-time participants.

We want all contributors to be able to talk to each other on the wikis – to ask questions, to resolve differences, to organize projects and to make decisions. Communication is essential for the depth and quality of our content, and the health of our communities. We're currently leading a global consultation on how to improve talk pages, and we're looking for people that can report on their experiences using (or helping other people to use) wiki talk pages. We'd like to invite you to participate in the consultation, and invite new users to join too.

We thank you in advance for your participation and your help.

    Research on the "thanks" function

2.5 years ago, you posted this. Since it's been a while, this might be irrelevant to you, but I've recently become fairly familiar with the MediaWiki database schema so I would probably be able to extract the thanks data if you're still interested. Retro (talk | contribs) 17:22, 13 July 2019 (UTC)

@Retro: That would be terrific! I'm actually working on a project about gilding on Reddit and it would be interesting to include data from Wikipedia thanking. Andrew327 19:15, 15 July 2019 (UTC)
I have a question: how are you processing and analyzing the data? Are you using a programming language to assist in processing? If you're using Python, I could probably just create and send you a simple script to filter the logging database dump to only contain thanks data; otherwise, it should probably be pretty straightforward to figure something else out. Retro (talk | contribs) 19:30, 15 July 2019 (UTC)
@Retro: I work with Python, R, and SQL. I'd really appreciate any help, including source code. Andrew327 01:13, 17 July 2019 (UTC)
