ジャン・メーウス
ジャン・メーウス︵Jean Meeus, 1928年12月 - ︶は、ベルギーの気象学者・アマチュア天文家。天体力学を専門に扱い[1]、球面天文学や天体力学を関心領域とする[1]。
経歴[編集]
ジャン・メーウスはベルギーのルーヴェン大学で数学を研究し、1953年に修士の学位を取得[1]。1993年の退職までブリュッセル空港にて気象予報士を務めた[1]。業績・表彰[編集]
地球の特定の地点・特定の日における太陽の位置︵日の出や日の入りなど︶の計算、コンプトゥス︵復活祭の日曜日の計算アルゴリズム︶など、さまざまな天文計算式を著書﹃アストロノミカル・アルゴリズムス﹄(Astronomical Algorithms) などで紹介している。小惑星番号 13579 の天体にオール・オッド︵﹁全部奇数﹂︶[2]、24680 の天体にオール・イーヴン︵﹁全部偶数﹂︶という名称を提案した[3]。- 国際天文学連合は彼の功績を称え、1981年に小惑星メーウスを命名した[1]。
- 1986年に太平洋天文学会よりアマチュア功労賞 (Gordon Myers Amateur Achievement Award) を受賞[4]。
