How do we nominate files for deletion?[編集]

Hi! As you can see from this edit I could not get a copyvio deleted with {{delete}}. How do you nominate files for deletion? Do you use a script of do you make them manually?

=== {{Page|{{subst:SUBPAGENAME}}}} ===
Reason for deletion
* {{AFD|削除}} As nominator. ~~~~

  • Adding the deletion request subpage at the bottom of the daily log page, Wikipedia:削除依頼/ログ/2024年6月27日. ※Warning: ~~~~ signatures are in the GMT time zone, but the date in the title of the daily log page follows the Japanese time zone, GMT+9.
I don't see anything about notifying the uploader in the documentation. Looking at today's and yesterday's deletion request log pages (3rd and 4th of July), it seems that the nominators haven't notified the original authors, so I left no notification. On the other hand, I see that Wikipedia:即時削除の方針#ファイル (Wikipedia:Candidates for speedy deletion#Files) requires a notification if you tag a file as "no source" or "no licence" or if you want to have a file moved to Commons deleted.
Thank you. It seems like a lot of work… I thought the notification of the user when deleting with NowCommons is more like a "Hey do you know about Commons? Use that in the future because it is much more cool!". So I have not added that everytime. I skipped it if user had a lot of notifications allready or if user is not active.
Do you speak Japanese?
If I get my bot flag my plan was to mass move files. But they are slow on deleting files allready on Commons and they do not like English categories. So my plan was to find one user. Fix the files. Mass transfer. Nominate for deletion. Remove the English categories. If you speak Japanese it would be nice if you could help check or locate the good files to move. Some are probaby ready to move and other need some work.
I would really like to fix GFDL locally. Some always add GFDL-ja after move to Commons. Some never add it. That means disclaimers are added randomly.

From Wikipedia:

Files 1-5
Files copied to Wikimedia Commons satisfying all of the following criteria

So my interpretation is that the notification is mandatory.

I think that one problem is that Commons usually has more detailed categories. See for example c:Special:Diff/430809870. On Wikipedia, the file is tagged as "Images of Yao City" and "Images of Shintō shrines" but Commons has a category for the shrine, c:Category:Kusumoto-jinja (Yao). It takes extra time when you have to find the correct Commons category. Also, {{information}} is very often not used. Sometimes users transfer files to Commons and put everything in the description field instead of moving the information to the correct field, which looks ugly.

It is unfortunate that {{GFDL}} isn't the same as c:Template:GFDL. Transfer tools get the template name wrong and many users are unaware of the difference.

Be careful with images tagged with one of these templates:

{{屋外美術}}: Outdoor artwork with FOP issues, allowed under an EDP.
{{PD-NoCommons}}: The copyright has expired in Japan and the United States, but not in the source country.
{{PD-old-USJP}}: The copyright has expired in Japan and the United States, but the source country is often a third country, so check the copyright rules for that country first.
The copyright has expired in Japan but not in the United States, allowed under an EDP.

I speak Japanese.

Great! If you speak Japanese then you can perhaps solve the mystery about the disclaimers.
It takes 2 seconds to change FileImporter so that it changes GFDL to GFDL but then it will do it with ALL files. Also those like ファイル:0 003.jpg that do not have disclaimers.
As I said I think the best solution is to move GFDL to GFDL-ja so the templates on ja.wiki and Commons have the same name. If we can set up clear rules on Template‐ノート:GFDL#Subject_to_disclaimers_-_what_is_the_status then it should be possible to locate all the files that should have disclaimers and get a bot to change the template to GFDL-ja.
The easy solution: 64 k are in Category:GFDL画像 and 37 k use the normal {{GFDL}} and 27 k use {{GFDL-no-disclaimers}}. Change the category that {{GFDL-no-disclaimers}} uses so only files with disclaimers are left in Category:GFDL画像. Then we change all the files in Category:GFDL画像 to {{GFDL-ja}}. Then we do not have to worry about dates etc. Then we move templates around and fix the categories. All done! (41 files uses both template so they need to be checked by hand) --MGA73会話2020年7月5日 (日) 08:38 (UTC)[返信]
I also made a suggestion at Template‐ノート:NowCommons. If files with the same name is in one category and files with a different name is in another one then it is much easier (for me at least) because then we can mass tag files with the same name with the speedy deletion for "Files 1-5" because then we do not have to worry about changing any articles first.
If you are good at making code you can even add some code to the template so it makes some code you can copy paste to the file page and to the uploader.
This code might work.
Lol should perhaps make some headings so each topic have their own place :-) About the GFDL-only files then we could make a list of the top uploaders and ask them if they would be willing to also license the files as {{Cc-by-sa-4.0}} If yes then we do not have to worry about license migration or if the file is welcome on Commons or not.
A list of all GFDL (it takes a minute to open). It would be better if it did not include those with Cc-by-sa-3.0. But if we separate GFDL-files in a category "with disclaimers" and one "without disclaimers" then it is most likely only those with disclaimers that are relevant.
This Category:GFDLのみでライセンスされていたファイル claims to be GFDL-only. Not sure it is complete. Click on this link to see who uploaded the files with GFDL only. If you want you could say hi to the users still active and ask if they are willing to relicense.
It is not complete. Soubusen Tsudanuma eki 1.jpg as example. They should do as on en.wiki and Commons and use the license migration system that is not based on when a file is edited.
Grrrr forgot that if file on Commons have another name you need to add both old and new name when informing uploader about the 1-5.
So new link :-) --MGA73会話2020年7月5日 (日) 20:30 (UTC)[返信]

Moving files to Commons[編集]

Hello again! I tried to do a mass import and the files are in c:Category:Files uploaded by Tokatsu Kokubu. If you want you are welcome to have a look. And atm. I'm working on Category:Files uploaded by Bakkai. It seems that it works fine changing GFDL to GFDL-ja before I move the files to Commons.

GFDL and disclaimers + license update[編集]

Hi! I hope you are safe and just relaxing in the sun.

Per Template‐ノート:GFDL-ja#Subject_to_disclaimers_-_what_is_the_status I have now changed the templates so files with disclaimers use {{GFDL-ja}} and files without disclaimers use {{GFDL}}. So now the templates use the same names on Commons and on ja.wiki. I think that will make things so much easier.

I made lists over all files that had disclaimers and changed those to {{GFDL-ja}}. So if any files had disclaimers by a mistake then they still have disclaimers.

If you or anyone else can give a clear answer that "Files uploaded before/after <some date> should not have disclaimers" then I can change that. But I do not plan to do more research on my own.

I also added "migration=relicense" to most of the files. It will work if the file is moved to Commons. But it does not work atm. at ja.wiki. I don't know how many that care about the license update or where to suggest the changes. If you have any ideas let me know. If not I will probably suggest it somewhere.

Hello![編集]

Hi Stefan!

I see you were active again on Commons a few days ago. I hope you are okay but just busy.

If you would like to be active again on Japanese Wikipedia there have been some changes since you were here last:

  1. Files have been changed so files with disclaimers use {{GFDL-ja}} and files without disclaimers use {{GFDL}}. That means files can now be moved to Commons without having to worry if the right license template is added.
  2. It is no longer needed to inform the uploader on the user talk page that the file have been moved to Commons.
  3. A bot will now delete the files that are moved to Commons if a "{{sd|f1-5|{{subst:PAGENAME}}}}" is added. However the bot does a few checks and one of the checks is if the file page have been changed AFTER it is moved to Commons. It will skip files if you add anything else than the NowCommons and the SD. Even if you fix a typo or change a category it will refuse to delete the file and add it to 利用者:SeitenBot2/即時削除を見送ったファイル for manual deletion. It runs twice per day.

I have been granted the right to delete files but there is a strict policy to only delete files if all the information is on the first revision of the file page on Commons. That means it is not enough just to fix the file page on Commons. So it takes a lot of time to check before files can be deleted.

I have not figured out how to nominate files for deletion so for now I just skip bad files and hope someone else will find them and nominate them for deletion.

If you have any projects you would like to finish perhaps I can help you.

Hi! I think all files are now fixed. Can you update the list to check if there are other files?

Sorry for slow reply. I've been a bit busy.
See quarry:query/56663 for a list of files with rotation set to 6. The list can be copied to a wiki gallery if you want to view the images. Click on "Fork" if you want an updated list and then run the query under your account. For files rotated in other ways, run the query with 6 changed to 3 or 8. The value can also be 2 if the file is mirrored, or 4, 5 or 7 if the file is both rotated and mirrored. However, the remaining files with EXIF rotation set were probably uploaded after Mediawiki added support for EXIF rotation, so the uploader should have seen if the file had the wrong orientation and probably re-uploaded the file if the orientation was wrong, so most likely nothing needs to be done with the remaining files with EXIF rotation set.
Hi! Thank you! Yes I noticed that you have been away for some time. If you ever get bored I think there are still files on ja.wiki that should be deleted. I gave up on starting deletions requests ;-) It seems you are right that there are not many files left with bad rotation. I moved a few to Commons and requested rotation there.
