Hierapolis /ˌhaɪəˈræpəlɪs/ (Ancient Greek: Ιεράπολις Ierapolis) or Hieropolis (Ιερόπολις)[1] was a town of the Phrygian Pentapolisinancient Phrygia, inhabited during Roman and Byzantine times.[2] Its bishop in the late 2nd century AD was Abercius, the subject of a famous inscription.[3]
Its site is located near KoçhisarinAsiatic Turkey.[4][5]
