Needs more info[edit]

Note: This may be good and all, but what about the process of deep frying memes? Someone should make an article about that. --Teuf0rt (talk) 18:15, 22 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Not accurate please edit[edit]

Can someone change 2 sentences:

1"Due to the high temperature involved and the high heat conduction of oil, it cooks food extremely quickly."
Quickly as opposed to what? Steaming? Because frying achieves similar speeds. The heat conduction covering the food is the main advantage, no need to stir or flip flood.

2"The effect of these is that the outside of the food becomes crispy and browned, while the inside becomes tender, moist, and steamed. Some foods – such as potatoes or whole, skin-on poultry – have a natural coating and do not require breading or battering."
Batter/breading is indeed applied for taste and texture purposes, so yes food is crispy and browned, but its function is not to make deep fried food 'tender, moist, and steamed', that occurs independent of battering/breading as long as it is not overcooked. This however suggests or implies that battering/breading does those things

misleading picture of chip pan fire[edit]

The picture of a chip pan fire is misleading because it does not mention that there has been water poured into the pan causing an explosion. This error can be attributed to the public awareness campaign for chip pan fires in the united kingdom affecting the search results for those keywords

I would suggest ether replacing the image with one that hasn't had water added to the fire (difficult to find) or including the extra information in the description

this is my first contribution after years of thanklessly using wikipedia to increase my knowledge, I'm sorry if this doesn't follow the standard format I just had to point this out 80.5.128.19 (talk) 21:11, 21 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

History Section NEEDS to be fixed.[edit]

Can someone take a look at history? No documented use until 2015 at the glenwood house? I mean Glenwood House isn't even capitalized nor is it even accurate. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.23.220.120 (talk) 02:28, 9 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Refs/places to research[edit]

I plan to use these (I was closing my tabs), but I'm leaving them here in case I don't manage. Thanks, --Bananasoldier (talk) 17:26, 25 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Brazil[edit]

Brazil has churros, a sweet deep fried batter filled with doce de leite. From Bahia state comes the acarajé, deep fried corn batter with fillings. -wloveral — Preceding unsigned comment added by 177.105.203.119 (talk) 16:29, 15 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

History section is substandard[edit]

The current history section, up to "French fries", is very weak. The sources include Cook's Info, which is a non-notable blog; Apicius, which is a primary source and sure enough is being misinterpreted (pullum frontonianum is not deep fried); an article on Thrillist; a video on Business Insider, which is essentially a blog aggregator (and the video is no longer viewable); an article on falafel which has no historical content; an article about falafel which only says that that it's been around "for centuries"; and an article which looks promising but doesn't ever distinguish between pan-frying on a greased grid-iron and deep frying, which is what this article is about. I don't have the time right now to do better, but I wonder if we should just replace that paragraph with some sort of place holder until we can find decent sources. --Macrakis (talk) 21:26, 6 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I've tagged the Cook's Info ref as needing a better source. I've removed pullum frontonianum: the recipe clearly isn't talking about deep frying (since it is cooking the chicken in a mixture of broth and oil); anyway, this is a primary source which needs expert interpretation. --Macrakis (talk) 15:45, 29 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hatnote[edit]

Any objection to removing the hatnote? It seems very unlikely to me that anyone looking for the topic of deep-fried memes would type in only "deep fried" or "deep frying". And in any case the topic is sufficiently obscure that all it gets is 1 poorly sourced sentence at Internet meme. I think that the existence of the redirect deep-fried meme suffices. Lennart97 (talk) 15:46, 20 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Removed as no objection has been voiced so far. Lennart97 (talk) 14:42, 31 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This is nowhere near the GA criteria - unreliable web sources, disorganized content that's largely lists of foods, and missing citations everywhere. Significant work is needed. Hog Farm Talk 19:16, 26 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
