Do help

[edit]

I made the new pizza template, but someone needs to add some more topics to it. Also, I think the article is cramped and has too many pictures -the problem is that I can't decide which to take out and how to position each.

Also, please add the pizza template to any pizza related article -it's tedious, but I don't know how to properly use botsAtmanDave 22:13, 31 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hawaiian

[edit]

Wouldn't Hawaiian fit more appropriately in some other category than "Ethic variations", maybe "miscellaneous types"? List of misleading food names says it's not from Hawaii at all, so describing it as "ethic" seems dubious... Mbelisle 22:53, 4 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that its innappropriate in its current location. Be bold and move it! Russeasby 23:26, 4 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Zwiebelkuchen and Tarte flambée

[edit]

I am removing Zwiebelkuchen and Tarte flambée from the "Ethnic variations" section. "Ethnic variation" suggests that the two are in some way derivative of the pizza, and there is nothing in the articles to suggest that. Nach0king (talk) 18:40, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If you think of pizza as a general category, then these fit in perfectly. Sandwich includes a number of international foods that are related to sandwiches but are not directly inspired by the British sandwich, such as Butterbrot and Smörgåstårta. We should restore those two.Ibadibam (talk) 02:36, 24 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Panzarotti

[edit]

What do you think of adding Panzarotti to the template?Ibadibam (talk) 02:37, 24 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Extensive edit

[edit]

I have made various changes. I got rid of the picture at the bottom as it was of poor quality and added nothing useful. I have removed the "Ethnic variations" because this should not really be separate from "regional variations". It was also misleading to have only American pizzas under "regional variations". So all of these now come under the heading of "regional variations". There were also dishes under "regional variations" that were not variations on pizza at all but were coincidentally similar dishes - an example is Lamachun. It is also a little confusing having separate "Structural" and "Miscellaneous" categories so now, all these come under "Similar Dishes" along with the regional dishes that are similar to pizza but not technically variations of it. I have removed the ingredients section altogether as this covers such a huge amount of foods that it is not practical to include it. I have added some dishes like the Green onion pancake but removed some others which are too dissimilar to pizza to be included like Garlic knots. I have also added the Peel and Masonry oven to the newly named "Pizza Tools" section. I think that covers everything. Shoebill2 (talk) 12:07, 26 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Coverage

[edit]

The template is designed to cover the main topics about pizza, not every single possible item that could be associated with pizza. This has been discussed in other sidebar templates and it is basic consensus that we do not need all possible aspect associated with the subject of the template, in this case toppings, etc covered in this template. --Jeremy (blah blahI did it!) 02:58, 30 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps. I included main topics, not a comprehensive summary of all of them. However, your reversion had the unfortunate effect of also removing the style and layout changes I made that improved the template's layout. This has created more work, because I now have to go back and redo these improvements that were made. In the future, please avoid blanket reversions that undo style and layout improvements. Thank you for your consideration. Northamerica1000(talk) 03:32, 30 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I've replaced the entries for Lazio and Neapolitan style pizza, to globalize the list, so it contains these Italian pizza varieties, rather than just only American varieties. After all, pizza was originally invented in Naples, Italy. Northamerica1000(talk) 03:40, 30 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Links to articles only please, no links to anchors. No HTML markup, the stuff centers itself when not presented in list format. --Jeremy (blah blahI did it!) 04:30, 30 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Why? This template could easily be improved with html markup and other style improvements that would also help improve the overall encyclopedia's layout, style and formatting. It's inappropriate to limit improvements to the encyclopedia in this manner, because it fundamentally goes against the grain of WP:BOLD. Furthermore, while Wikipedia isn't a democracy, it also isn't a dictatorship, per the notion of one person stating what all others cannot do, per the act of simply stating so. Also, the importance of globalizing the encyclopedia is of higher gravitas and significance compared to one editor stating that only direct links can be placed in templates. It's higher for readers to have links to clearly significant subtopic of pizza, rather than them being limited per one editor's dictum. At any rate, lets work together to improve the encyclopedia. Northamerica1000(talk) 12:38, 11 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
HTML markup is discouraged on Wikipedia, instead we use Wiki-markup ({{Center}}, not <center></center>). Globalize if you want, just don't add everything possible about the subject as it makes the template unwieldy and overly large. And I am not dictating, I am passing along my knowledge of these types of templates. I have worked on dozens of them and and have learned what works and what doesn't as well as what causes problems when these types of edita are introduced. --Jeremy (blah blahI did it!) 16:56, 11 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
