Removal of the Milhist banner from talk pages[edit]

I noticed that you removed the MILHIST banner from several talk pages because the Biography banner had the milhist workgroup. I do not agree with these changes and heres why. Althought the bio banner contains the Military workgroup it does not contain the task forces that are available in the MILHIST banner such as Location (such as US, Korea, China, etc) Maritime, WWI, WWII, etc. Additionally the Biography banner does not support the B class checklist and therefore the articles would not show up on any of the maintenance categories for that either. I do not know if any of these apply to the articles you removed the banner from but I wanted to point that out in case you were unaware. --Kumioko (talk) 13:33, 4 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I also wanted to let you know that I left a message on the [Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Military history]] in case I am in error to allow others to correct me. Cheers. --Kumioko (talk) 13:39, 4 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Task force parameters for the Milhist banner[edit]

Hi PINTofCARLING, thanks for tagging a lot of articles for the Military history project over the past few days. Can I ask a favour? When you assess the articles, if possible, can you please add the task force parameter to the banner at the same time? Currently we have over 700 articles sitting in the Category:Military history articles with no associated task force, and you would be helping out no end if you added in the task force parameter at the same time you assessed the article. The different task forces are listed at WP:MHA and although it can sometimes be tricky to get the correct mark up code (you can find the exact code on each of the separate task force pages), don't worry if you make a mistake as it will be picked up eventually (additionally, sometimes there is no relevant task force, in this case just use the parameter "|no=yes"). An example of adding a task force can be seen in this diff: [1]. If you have any questions about this, please don't hesitate to ask me and once again thanks for your hard work. Cheers. AustralianRupert (talk) 07:58, 12 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The Milhist election has started![edit]

The Military history WikiProject coordinator election has started. You are cordially invited to help pick fourteen new coordinators from a pool of twenty candidates. This time round, the term has increased from six to twelve months so it is doubly important that you have your say! Please cast your vote here no later than 23:59 (UTC) on Tuesday, 28 September 2010.

With many thanks in advance for your participation from the coordinator team,  Roger Davies talk 19:30, 17 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Help with vandalism[edit]

First, thank you for reverting the vandalism to clean it up! That's the most important step. When a user commits vandalism repeatedly, you can put one of the standard warning message templates (shortcut is WP:TUSER) on the user's talk page. Most warnings come in four levels, with a level 4 warning being a final warning. (Don't forget to subst: the templates when adding them!)

In the case of Co3yy (talk · contribs) and his recent vandalism, you can see that AussieLegend gave a level 3 warning, {{uw-vandalism3}}, to him today after his edits to several articles, including Holland Patent High School. After he left an uncivil remark on his talk page, I then gave him a final warning, {{uw-npa4}}.

If he should commit any subsequent vandalism, the next step is to report him to the administrators' noticeboard for vandalism, WP:AIV. There an administrator will review the situation and, if appropriate, block the user. (Being an administrator myself, if I see any further vandalism by Co3yy, I can just block him immediately.)

Hopefully the templates help. They're a standard method of doing the warnings, and they provide an escalating scale to make it easy to see if the user has been warned before. (I usually put the name of the warning template in the edit summary, so even if the user removes the text of the warning, the fact that they got warned is plainly visible in the talk page's edit history.) And of course, if you have any other questions, feel free to ask—or if a situation gets out of hand at a page, report it to WP:AIV or one of the other administrator noticeboards. —C.Fred (talk) 18:30, 2 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks[edit]

Several years ago you inserted there a reference to ‘Beleg’, without any further information. Would you please fill it up? Thanks in advance.

Barnstar![edit]

The Barnstar of Diligence
This is for the fantastic job you are doing in clearing out the Category:Military history articles with incomplete B-class checklists. Keep up the great work!. 64.6.124.31 (talk) 17:00, 13 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

G'day[edit]

Great little contest we've got going on here! Just wanted to clarify something about your work on Articles needing attention to supporting materials. When you say "Starting from number 3, I did not add any supporting material. I focused on updating b5 when the b-class checklist (sometimes from 2008) did not reflect recent changes to an article." do you mean you didn't actually improve the article, you just updated the assessment of the article based on improvements that had already been made? Regards, Peacemaker67 (send... over) 09:26, 16 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Congrats![edit]

Congrats on taking out the bronze in the June backlog drive! Welldone, 500 checklists is a great effort... And I could go a pint of Mabel, just quietly... It's been a long time. Peacemaker67 (send... over) 10:43, 3 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! Great effort from your side, too. Shame I was on holiday for the last week of June and couldn't contribute any more. I really would have liked to get the number of articles needing supporting materials down some more.PINTofCARLING (talk) 13:40, 6 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. March Madness 2017[edit]

G'day all, please be advised that throughout March 2017 the Military history Wikiproject is running its March Madness drive. This is a backlog drive that is focused on several key areas:

As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.

The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the military history scope will be considered eligible. More information can be found here for those that are interested, and members can sign up as participants at that page also.

The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 March and runs until 23:59 UTC on 31 March 2017, so please sign up now.

For the Milhist co-ordinators. Regards, AustralianRupert (talk) & MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 07:24, 26 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

2017 Military Historian of the Year and Newcomer of the Year nominations and voting[edit]

As we approach the end of the year, the Military History project is looking to recognise editors who have made a real difference. Each year we do this by bestowing two awards: the Military Historian of the Year and the Military History Newcomer of the Year. The co-ordinators invite all project members to get involved by nominating any editor they feel merits recognition for their contributions to the project. Nominations for both awards are open between 00:01 on 2 December 2017 and 23:59 on 15 December 2017. After this, a 14-day voting period will follow commencing at 00:01 on 16 December 2017. Nominations and voting will take place on the main project talkpage: here and here. Thank you for your time. Greetings,

"Military history" is one of the most important subjects when speak of sum of all human knowledge. To support contributors interested in the area over various language Wikipedias, we intend to form a user group. It also provides a platform to share the best practices between military historians, and various military related projects on Wikipedias. An initial discussion was has been done between the coordinators and members of WikiProject Military History on English Wikipedia. Now this discussion has been taken to Meta-Wiki. Contributors intrested in the area of military history are requested to share their feedback and give suggestions at Talk:Discussion to incubate a user group for Wikipedia Military Historians.

April 2018 Milhist Backlog Drive[edit]

G'day all, please be advised that throughout April 2018 the Military history Wikiproject is running its annual backlog elimination drive. This will focus on several key areas:

As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.

The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the scope of military history will be considered eligible. This year, the Military history project would like to extend a specific welcome to members of Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red, and we would like to encourage all participants to consider working on helping to improve our coverage of women in the military. This is not the sole focus of the edit-a-thon, though, and there are aspects that hopefully will appeal to pretty much everyone.

The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 April and runs until 23:59 UTC on 30 April 2018. Those interested in participating can sign up here.

Wikiproject Military history coordinator election nominations open[edit]

Nominations for the upcoming project coordinator election have opened. A team of up to ten coordinators will be elected for the next coordination year. The project coordinators are the designated points of contact for issues concerning the project, and are responsible for maintaining our internal structure and processes. They do not, however, have any authority over article content or editor conduct, or any other special powers. More information on being a coordinator is available here. If you are interested in running, please sign up here by 23:59 UTC on 14 September! Voting will commence on 15 September. If you have any questions, you can contact any member of the current coord team. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 02:05, 2 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
