Welcome to WikiProject Yoga. Several Wikipedians have formed this collaboration resource and group dedicated to improving Wikipedia's coverage of Yoga and the organization of information and articles on this topic. This page and its subpages contain their suggestions and various resources; it is hoped that this project will help to focus the efforts of other Wikipedians interested in the topic. If you would like to help, please join the project, inquire on the talk page and see the to-do list below.
The mission of WikiProject Yoga is to ensure that Yoga-related articles on Wikipedia are written:-
In an informative style
In a neutral and non-sectarian manner
Using verifiable and reliable sources
This project is about discussing issues which affect Yoga-related articles in general. Discussions about particular articles should be handled on the talk pages of those articles.
The scope of this WikiProject is to improve, (primarily) the quality and, (if at all) the quantity of information about Yoga available on Wikipedia.
The important thing to remember is that all sources and articles must conform to Wiki policies such as WP:NOR, WP:V. and WP:NPOV.
Also remember to cite your sources correctly. If you feel a viewpoint merits mention, you can find some material which may constitute a reliable source by checking books, journals, articles, newspapers and other sources that are available online.
New articles must be on notable topics. Variations on existing asanas are in general not considered notable; they are handled within the project by adding a 'Variations' section to the main article, and documenting each variation briefly. All variations must be cited to a reliable source; significant variations may be described in a brief paragraph, and illustrated if there is space on the right of the Variations section.
All original documents and text must use the original language as the primary source. This usually means that transliterations will come from Sanskrit (which usually appears in Devanagari) and use International Alphabet of Sanskrit Transliteration (IAST). Asana articles, however, should be titled and described without diacritic marks, which should appear only in the IAST version of the Sanskrit name, i.e. only once in any article.
to add a page/article to this project please place the following template at the top of the talk page.
{{WikiProject Yoga|class=|importance=}}
If there are multiple project they should be combined using the BannerShell Template
{{WikiProjectBannerShell|1=
{{WikiProject Yoga|class=Start|importance=High}}
{{WikiProject Hinduism|class=Start|importance=Low}}
{{WikiProject Health and fitness|class=Start|importance=Mid}}
}}
Many articles can use more or better images. If these are not available in Commons, request them below at Image requests, naming the article concerned and if necessary briefly describing the kind of image needed.
When you start a new yoga article it is a good idea to immediately annotate it as a Yoga stub. This will place it in an appropriate category which can be used for coordinate work on such new articles. It will also invite assessment from other project members. To do this add the following template in the final section (External Links) after the YogaorAsana templates and before any categories.
It can be seen that among top-importance yoga articles, only 1 is currently rated as a C, Patanjali, so this is an obvious priority for improvement to GA or FA status. Of course, some may be wrongly rated.
Supaiku (talk·contribs) Practicing Sanskrit Devanagari and IAST and my conceptual knowledge of Ashatanga/Hatha Yoga poses by updating Wikipedia seems like a nice study method:) Feel free to contact me, or give feedback on my edits, or add something to my Todo List. Supaiku (talk; Todo) 07:43, 11 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Iṣṭa Devata (talk·contribs) (I am interested in removing random sectarian notes, typos, personal theories, and clarifying ambiguous terminology, fixing shwa deletion errors and changing other transliteration schemes back into IAST to keep consistent Sanskrit representation) Recently fixed Malasana and Anuloma Pranayama pages. JSTOR access if you need some citations. 15:36, 25 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
EMP (talk·contribs) I'm interested in improving all the yoga-related articles so that they do some justice to the subject. I have worked on Yoga as Exercise and Alternative Medicine and also Yin Yoga. EMP (talk) 23:15, 10 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Morganfitzp (talk·contribs) I am interested in standardizing asana articles, integrating mudras into articles about hand gestures, and and adding more perspective to articles about yoga philosophy. 23:51, 30 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Chiswick Chap (talk·contribs) I intend to bring the top-level articles on yoga as exercise, including asana and Iyengar yoga, to GA. I'll do a bit of work on individual asana articles when this seems necessary. 11:46, 1 December 2018 (UTC)
Nikiwiki242 (talk·contribs) (I am interested in adding relevant and missing content for asanas, Hot yoga, Hatha yoga and pranayama, also can provide high-quality pictures) 16:28, 10 Mars 2019
Pradeepwb (talk·contribs) I care about accuracy and reliability in yoga articles. There's still plenty of bias and claims about particular teachers and their achievements. So that sourcing and verification is important and needs to be well documented. Also, I notice pro-Western tilt in commentaries about yoga history, where Indian commentators are underrepresented. All that I'm sure will be worked out in time. 11:58, 1 July 2019
Oria 6 (talk·contribs) Would like to contribute information about the mystical concepts in Hatha Yoga, Raja Yoga, Meditation, States of Consciousness, History of Yoga etc. Would also like to contribute around contemporary clinical research about yoga.
Gardenkur (talk·contribs) Interesting to contribute to wiki as a global platform to share and improve efficacy of yoga related topics. The science of yoga is vast and eternal and will try my best to improve.
Please feel free to list your new Yoga-related articles here (newer articles at the top, please). Any new articles that have an interesting or unusual fact in them, are at least over 1,000 characters, don't have any dispute templates on them, and cite their sources, should be suggested for the Did you know? box on the Wikipedia Main Page.
